    [UK] 2024.8.x

Strangely seemed to be re-offered 2024.8.7 yesterday evening. Already on 2024.8.7 but noticed the update icon in TeslaMate so woke the car up with the app, sure enough it said a software update was available and clicking the release notes showed it to be 2024.8.7 with an 'Already Installed'...

    usb audio pauses between songs

How is the SSD powered ? If it’s from the USB port then is there definitely enough power for it ? Could be that the power is borderline so it’s effectively getting powered off for time, then when it gets enough power it’s as if it’s been re-inserted. When I got mine the recommendation seemed to...

    TeslaMate [megathread]

If it helps anyone regarding the offline/asleep issue...mine spent ~5 hours yesterday morning offline when I would've expected it to be asleep, it's been asleep the rest of the time (other than when being driven or awoken). This is with Teslamate 1.28.3 and car firmware 2024.2.8. Certainly not...

Spotify - Tesla Account or Premium Account

Strangely, due to the Tidal pricing changes I ended up with a Spotify Premium account. One other thing Tidal have done is to introduce a new £9 monthly charge to use it for DJ-ing (Spotify doesn’t support it anyway), although that might not affect people in the car too much. Previously was...

    [UK] 2024.2

First drive in significant rain with 2024.2.3 and wipers worse than they've ever been for me, they've always been underwhelming but never had to use the manual button as much.

Dashcam - help me understand its use

Fairly sure I've got a long-press on the left scroll-wheel configured to save dashcam footage (in addition to the horn), for cases where something happens but you don't want to draw attention (or cause confusion) with the horn. Not sure I've ever used it, though, but think it's worth setting up.

[UK] What we already knew - EV misinformation in press - it’s not gone unnoticed

I’m looking forward to my annual petrol station visit, as it’ll mean it’s spring and thus needing petrol for the lawnmower. Pulling up at a pump in the Tesla can get a few funny looks, even when you pull the plastic can out, biggest problem is giving the grass it’s first mow without getting...

Sentry Mode - Depressing how many people open doors into the car

Mine was left with sentry on for 24 hours almost-exactly over the weekend, and lost 9%, so on a 2022 M3 RWD I reckon that's ~225 W. So, if it's at home for 90% of the time on a rate of 30p/kWh then that's ~£600 per year. At that point for many a CCTV system for the home would pay for itself...

    [UK] 2024.2

In fairness it's impressive how good the car is at spotting cyclists without lights in the dark, which seems to be the vast majority round here. Still seems to be a problem when you switch to the radio after listening to another music source, unfortunately.

    Does pre-conditioning = Defrost functi

One thing I did in the recent cold snap (without giving it much thought) was to turn on climate control ~10 minutes before departure, then defrost ~5 minutes before, this might slowly warm the windscreen up a bit before blasting it and maybe reduce the chances of it cracking.

Spotify - Tesla Account or Premium Account

I can certainly understand why people go with Tidal for the sound quality, if it did podcasts then it'd be perfect for me, as would Spotify if the sound quality was better. Daft thing is I'm already paying for a Tidal and Spotify anyway - for kids. For me my in-car listening is split three ways...

Spotify - Tesla Account or Premium Account

Thanks - that's exactly what I wanted to know. It's a great shame there isn't something that ticks all the boxes, which for me are :- - high quality audio - podcasts as well as music - app in the car - app on Android phone I end up bluetooth-ing the phone for podcasts, which isn't such a...

Spotify - Tesla Account or Premium Account

Has anyone compared the sound quality of the car's Spotify account with a Premium account recently ? Audio quality - Spotify suggests you could get 160 kbit/s against 320 kbit/s. Also, if you log out of a personal Spotify account in the car then do you get dumped back into the car's account or...

Tesla charging cost calculator - Now with monthly figures

This is really useful @DaveW - thanks for taking the time to knock it up. In particular the monthly summaries are fantastic. UK Charge Point Installer Recommendations

Hypervolt did some updates and improved the wireless connection massively, maybe around Q3 2022-ish. Before that mine kept dropping the wireless connection and needed a power cycle every week or so, since then I've never needed to. It's actually maintaining a wi-fi connection far better than I'd...

    Key Fob for Model Y

Not necessarily on Android though, you may find the poll interesting - How Far Away Does Your Phone Key Work to Unlock ? (although this was a while ago). 2023 Holiday Update

I can't even get fart-on-lock to work. Thought it would be childish to get t'other half to take it to work tomorrow with reindeer sleigh and fart-on-lock pre-configured. Initially thought it was because the lock sound is disabled (in the main menu), but enabling that disables the option in the...

    Key Fob for Model Y

That sounds about normal for a Samsung S21, it's come up before including in How Secure Are Teslas/Tesla Thefts. When I first got the car I turned the phone key off for that reason, but finally decided that with PIN-to-drive enabled the benefits outweighed the cost. But, our living/sleeping...

App nor octopus IO not waking up model 3

I had something vaguely similar last Sunday...car is left plugged in and the Hypervolt scheduled to start charging at 11:00 to take advantage of half-price electricity. This has worked perfectly for ages but last week the charge hadn't started when I checked on it, not 100% sure whether the...

    Mobile App - Quick Actions

I'm not bold enough to trust it, unfortunately, as I'm one of those people with a phone that retains the bluetooth connection for quite some distance. For a curry takeaway, I was bought a hook that screws into the top of the inside of the boot - perfect to hang your takeaway on (providing you...

    Mobile App - Quick Actions

To be honest there's only four shortcuts I'd want for fear of pressing them accidentally, wouldn't want to pop the front boot, door or even boot with a stray press. Lock, climate, defrost and charge port seem safe enough for me, could squeeze sentry on I suppose if needed.

    [uk specific] Software 2023.32

I think you can set up a long-press on the left-hand steering wheel button to save a clip, to avoid having to use the horn. I've set that up, anyway, but not actually used it.

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

Just looked back through some quote history and found a comparison site quote for Model 3 RWD (maybe SR+ then) from exactly two years ago (to the day) for £472, re-ran it just now out of interest and it's £715. All other parameters remain the same (except for getting two years older, of course)...

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

No, it definitely doesn't update the position when it's in transit on a low-loader, mine came back from repair last week and I wanted to know when it would arrive to make arrangements, but position remained where it was loaded until it was actually unloaded - checked both via the app and...

    [uk specific] Software 2023.32

Also installed 32.4 yesterday evening but lost connectivity part-way through a journey this morning, roughly 7:50 as TeslaMate shows exactly where I last was. Two-button reboot didn't fix, either. A bit annoying as the traffic routing is lost and traffic is horrendous this morning, satnav...

What do you do with your house keys (for those that use their phone as a car key)?

Doesn't that bugger up the ability to not have sentry on at home but on when away from home ? Can see a hidden advantage though, when you want to program a round trip the logical thing to do is to add Home as the destination and where you're going as a stop, which you can't do as it immediately...

Model 3 and Model Y stripes decal

Unfortunately got these although not as bad, but in the same place. Absolutely no idea where they came from, assume from being left in a car park at some point, as covered elsewhere sentry doesn’t seem to catch vehicles in the way it catches people. Local small bodyshop place reckon they have a...

What do you do with your house keys (for those that use their phone as a car key)?

Always had house keys and car keys on separate key rings anyway, didn’t want to carry bulkier car keys when not out in the car (e.g. for a drink), plus made it easier for someone else to use the car (whilst leaving the spare car key in a safe place for emergencies).

    New Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive

If you've got decent mats in the current Model 3 then might be worth keeping them, unless it's changed then the mats are flimsy carpet ones that drift out of place easily.

    New Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive

Isn't this as simple as changing the e-mail address on your account from your work e-mail to personal ? If you do that before you order the new one then you won't end up with two accounts. Unless I'm mis-understanding. I had similar, in that I had an account under my personal e-mail from...

    [UK] 2023.20.x

The app used to do this for me, and tell me to connect to wi-fi to download it, but this is the thing that seems to have changed, so if you think there might be an update on the way then connect the car to wi-fi for an hour or two. In the past I've occasionally first noticed an update is...

    [UK] 2023.20.x

    [UK] 2023.20.x

Seems to be some different behaviour regarding updates (for me anyway)...currently on 2023.20.4.1 and as of yesterday (July 13th) the car hadn't checked for updates since June 28th (preference set to 'Advanced'). It's been connected to the mobile network all this time (as proven by live traffic)...

    Controversial Audio Opinion

Yes, previously you could speak "USB" to resume but that now says "service unavailable", or something. Same for Spotify. Not retaining the previous audio source, and where it was up to, is one of those real annoyances.
  46. M

    Controversial Audio Opinion

At the time MP3 was the best choice so they could be played everywhere, plus filesize given the price of large MicroSDs for the phone etc. Neither would be valid arguments today, of course. Glowing endorsement, certainly. For me I don't spend enough time in the car listening to music to...

    Controversial Audio Opinion

I did some comparisons ages ago, found the best was high-quality MP3 rips (originally from CDs) played from the USB stick. The in-built Tidal was almost as good, and the in-built Spotify (with bundled account) much worse than Tidal. Also tried bluetoothing the high quality MP3s from the phone on...

    Warrington Supercharger parking charges

Is there any way you can pedal/push/roll to get to Burtonwood ? It's on the M62, north of Warrington rather than South, but on the route into Liverpool (unless you're coming from Chester or North Wales). https://www.tesla.com/findus/location/supercharger/burtonwoodsupercharger

Model 3 sulks if it isnt parked on the drive

I thought the same. Knowing the Android will also work with NFC then I don't tend to take anything but the phone for short journeys (a couple of miles), but for longer journeys will always take the wallet with keycard in it just in case - never had to use it so far though. What, you don't like...
