2023 Model Y - Tesla trunk Storage bins not compatible?

Yeah, I was just looking at those. Do you have a '23 5-seat Fremont build?

OEM trunk storage bin (right side) for 2022 MYLR ?

Seems Tesla still hasn't actually fixed this issue. I have a 2023 Model Y, 5 seater, “full carpet” trunk. I ordered the “full carpet” storage bins, but the one on the passenger side still doesn’t fit correctly. The rubber bin part fits, but the lid does not. The P/N on the box I received is...

    Supercharger - Stevens Point, WI

Folks arguing this is "pathetic" or unnecessary in any way have failed to realize that someone will now actually be able to drive from Madison to Stevens Point and back in the winter without an issue. There are zero SuC's on this 110 mile stretch or anywhere near Point, so a R/T at 220 miles is...

Electrician installed wall connector using Romex 8/3 + 60A breaker

I've literally seen posts from folks saying they had a 50A breaker trip after charging at 48A for several hours. (Yes, they were told that they needed to change it to a 40A limit or a 60A circuit.) I've also seen properly rated breakers trip if they are in a garage wall that is being baked by...

Electrician installed wall connector using Romex 8/3 + 60A breaker

Oh, sorry, I may have missed the whole story here. If there are NEMA-14 series receptacles, then yes, you must absolutely pull a neutral to the panel and to the connected branch circuits. I was thinking it was hardwired EVSE's based on the original post.

Electrician installed wall connector using Romex 8/3 + 60A breaker

I tried to figure this out some years ago. The answer is... it's up to your AHJ. So call and ask the inspector if it would be approved or not. More than likely, though, they will say no.

Electrician installed wall connector using Romex 8/3 + 60A breaker

My first EMT install, I just bought elbows and couplers. It's super easy if you just need 90's. I think bending PVC is more difficult than using an EMT bender, but just my opinion. :)
  10. I

Electrician installed wall connector using Romex 8/3 + 60A breaker

I don't see anything particularly wrong, but many things missing, here are a few: - GFCI required in most jurisdictions for receptacles (NEC 2017+). - No mention or discussion of using EMT tradecraft, a very common wiring technique -- more common than PVC, at least in my locale. (Also perhaps...

Strange, I'd think someone in Colorado would know first-hand that rear camera is severely degraded when there's water and/or salt spray on it in the winter... I've been noting recently how useless any vision-based rear parking assist will be most of the winter on my recently ordered Y... Gonna...

Tow hitch bike rack for model y

In response to earlier posts about the 160 lb limit being only "implied" by the bike rack... Gen 3 HPWC with NEMA 14-60 plug

14-60 very definitely exists. It's quite rare and it's incredibly surprising that any electrician would have done this. In any case, the correct path is to remove it and hardwire the HPWC. Adding a pigtail plug to the unit is a code violation for other reasons.
  14. I

    NEMA 14-60 outlet

It's still a violation to add a cord and plug to a device listed only for hardwired installation.
  15. I

    Wire size for wall charger

... except for the part where components inside the WC are not rated higher than 60A, so a fault current of, say, 90A could be dangerous and would not trip the breaker.
  16. I

    Wire size for wall charger

Yeah, you could pretty certainly do that to cut the MC. Just put on work gloves when you do this -- not just because of the sharp edges, but the metal tends to be really grimey/greasy and will get your hands really dirty. Putting MC exposed on the bottom of joists (or outside edge of wall...
  17. I

    Wire size for wall charger

Oops, my bad on this one. 75°C ratings should be fine as long as that's the insulation type for the wire used and all termination ratings (which it surely is). (Ugh, I can't go edit my post now... 😓 )
  18. I

    Wire size for wall charger

Uhhhh did you put a NM-B clamp or bushing on that cable as it exited your panel?? I'm guessing from the suggestion that you used a 1/2" KO that you didn't, since 4/2 would surely need at least 3/4"... That's definitely a code requirement.
  19. I

    Wire size for wall charger

Definitely way easier. Note that MC has the same ampacity ratings as NM-B (Romex) at 6 AWG — 55A. I don't know of any EVSEs that support a 55A setting (though they really should!!), so you will need to use a 50A setting and circuit breaker now. Most people would have just used NM-B instead of...
  20. I

    Wire size for wall charger

No GFCI for hardwired EVSE's. Only receptacles. Use #6. #4 is overkill unless you have a very long run, and it's much harder to work with. Personally I would not pull a neutral wire. If someone changes to a 14-50R in the future, a neutral can be added into conduit at that time pretty easily, or...

    Wire size for wall charger

For what it's worth (i.e. other people following this), the terminal blocks are only rated for 4 AWG as the largest acceptable. Also, you should have used the bare ground wire for ground connection, not the white wire.
  22. I

    Wire size for wall charger

Yes, it is a very common issue. The main path to misinterpretation is as follows: - #6 NM-B is rated to 55A. - Code allows you to "round up" to the nearest breaker size if the one you need doesn't exist. - 55A breakers are nonexistent or extremely rare. OK, so you can use a 60A breaker. -...

Tesla requires 60A Disconnect switch w/charger?

Ah, so you'd run a business and do licensed, insured electrical work for people and charge significantly less money?
  24. I

Tesla requires 60A Disconnect switch w/charger?

You've misread/misinterpreted 625.54 in 2017. It says under 150V to ground, which any typical 240V service in the US meets (it is 120V to ground). Yes, a 14-50 needs GFCI unless you've done something very unusual.
  25. I

Tesla requires 60A Disconnect switch w/charger?

Yes, this, in fact, is basically the cheapest way to transition from heavy-gauge aluminum to copper wires. A 60A non-fusible disconnect is <$15 and you get to transition all 3 wires in it. Polaris connectors are the best choice for transitions in J-boxes, and they are like $15 each, plus you...

DIY Install of NEMA 14-50 receptacle

This is refreshing to see mostly correct answers on an electrical installation thread for once :-). You should be able to tell rather easily if you can use the existing wire to pull in copper instead. Give it a tug on one end and see how easily it moves. If it was actually installed to code...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

Guess all I can say is that a year ago or whenever it was that someone "discovered" this and it was all over the forums, I tried a bunch of unrelated nouns and they all opened the charge port door. I wouldn't be surprised if the algorithm/programming has changed since then in some way. 🤷‍♂️

True, other specific things it can open are the exception. I played with this a year or two ago and found that no matter what I said, it would open either the charge port door or the glovebox. Charge port door was by far more common. Same principle applies to saying things like "set my seat to...

No, we know that. - You can no longer see defrost or front seat heater status at a glance. - You can no longer toggle rear defrost or front seat heaters via the screen without turning on HVAC first, and then turning it off again if you didn't need it on. (Note this has always been the case for...

You must have a very different experience. Mine is so awful at night from the blinker washing out the picture that I turned it off. <bigger sigh> Voice commands don't always work on the first try. Voice commands don't work at all when there's no connectivity. Voice command reliability goes way down when front defrost is on high (too much background noise). I don't want to disrupt a conversation with another passenger in...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

Dumb argument. Nobody has a self-driving car. Those with FSD beta have to keep MORE attention on the road these days. Autopilot on the highway -- sure -- but that's also only a portion of driving time. Gotta design the UI to work in any reasonable conditions.
  42. I

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

That's not really a winning argument. Any type of distraction should be minimized. So reasoning that you can make something simple take longer just because there are other things that take that long isn't helpful. You can't make a shoulder-check quicker. You can make a common control task as...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

You're kidding, right?? First, that adjusts the temperature by one degree, so now I have to change it back to where it was. That's absurd. Second, if I want to turn on seat heaters or rear defrost without also turning on HVAC, now I have to turn it off afterward. (This now applies to any...

Yeah, but now the nav system no longer uses two different zoom levels for highway vs. city driving. Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

Literally this is only happening because Tesla provides no other avenue for feedback. There's no "contact us" form on their site, or "report an issue" feature in the car software*. This seems to be the only recourse. (Note: I am not one of them — just reporting back what I've been observing). *...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

    1) Auto seat heaters only work if HVAC is also on and set to auto — often folks want seat heat but not cabin heat (or have HVAC on manual settings, which I basically do all winter long). 2) The auto function has no concept of how much heat you want. This varies both by person and by how the...
