Error messages abound, parking brake stuck, and a 5000 lawn ornament. HELP!

I may have missed something but is there any actual evidence this is related to water intrusion? If not, that's just one shot in the dark out of dozens of possibilities. It sounds like you know something about CAN. If you can put a CAN analyzer on it you should check for error frames. In...

Constant cracking sound in speakers; sporadic loss of audio

Consider yourself lucky. Mine has never worked correctly in 11 months, however it was only recently that it became completely unusable. I'm not exaggerating either. I have not been able to make a decent Bluetooth phone call since February 2022 — except for in the junker Prius I bought for four...

Last year in a similar situation I made my own Tesla account. Unlimited supercharging and data transferred to me with no issues.

Has anyone sued Tesla over back-ordered parts and repair delays?

Congrats on the new car. I'm looking forward to a post-Tesla future within the next month and I agree with you about the customer service. Even though my car is a 2013 I still have people chat me up about it and they are usually quite surprised when I warn them about buying a Tesla.

    SiriusXM Volume Scratchy

Thanks for that info. I wasn't aware there was a CPU design change and it does seem like a reasonable theory that the old processor is out of bandwidth especially since the problem worsens over time. There is one side benefit of the problem being so bad now. They now have stopped telling me the...

    SiriusXM Volume Scratchy

The service center employees are not persuaded by this argument as I have tried it many times. I appreciate the information and it sounds like I'll be going down in flames (again) at the service center. I have been told too many lies by the Tesla service center to accept that removing the tuner...

    SiriusXM Volume Scratchy

I was told essentially the same thing in July 2022 about my MC2 2013 MS except without the "high priority for engineering" BS. So I've waited 7 months for a fix and the problem has grown worse during that time. V11.1 2023.2.10 is, for me, the last straw. Before this version, the problem was...

Constant cracking sound in speakers; sporadic loss of audio

I've had this problem in my 2013 S ever since the first day of the MCU2 upgrade, but it has gotten progressively worse. At first it was mainly the FM radio and only when I adjusted the volume or turned on the rear camera. Bluetooth phone calls were bad but still usable. Now, FM radio and...

    Fan noise behind driver display

I had intermittent fan noise on my 2013. More precisely, I believe it was mechanical interference. For unknown reasons, it mainly happened with the HVAC off. Anyway, I also had a problem with inop navigation so I upgraded to MCU2 and fixed both problems. I made a thread about it but what I just...

I never saw it. They called me and told me they had down it and would need to replace it. It's whichever glass has the radio antenna.

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

The good: Fan interference noise behind dash is gone as expected. Car wakes up much faster. Navigation works once again. Supports more modern wifi. I didn't run into horn, glove box, hazard, screen film problems like others did. The bad: Cost over $2000. Reverse camera is dimmer but not as...

Getting a used Tesla, deciding between years VS budget

This is wishful thinking, however I do agree with you that it's possible later cars will be more reliable. Only time will tell. The verdict is in on the older cars, however. Reliability isn't good. Tesla earned their place on the least reliable lists.

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

Good news: they didn't cancel my appointment. Bad news: they damaged my back window and so they have to keep it longer. They did give me a loaner though. It's another model S. 100-something model. Has ludicrous. Fun. Has autosteer. Terrifying. No thanks! I wish they had given me something...

New item: "Flashlight test" to make sure protective film was removed. Of course I'm kidding myself that Tesla will ever actually perform this upgrade. I'm expecting my next cancellation any day.

I would try, but it's been 2 months and still no upgrade for me and no estimate of when they can do it. I bet Yugo service was better.

Keeping my Model S as she ages

That's the same car I have except I have twice as many miles. My pack was replaced under warranty, but I still live in fear that it could fail any day. After all, the new pack probably has more miles on it than yours does although not as long on the calendar odometer. For the free spinning motor...

Keeping my Model S as she ages

I have a 2013 Model S with a replaced battery pack. The pack was replaced under warranty though. I doubt I would pay out of pocket for a new battery pack. I would consider it if I felt the car was solid otherwise, but there is occasional need for service and it takes weeks to schedule an...

    Need Some Education

Yeah, several thousand for infotainment upgrade was too strong. I should have said a couple grand. My out the door estimate is $2100 including the FM tuner. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you'd be lucky to get it done in 2 weeks in 2022. I've already waited quite a bit longer than that...

    Need Some Education

Useless is too strong, but you would want to upgrade if it has a 3G modem. Tesla will upgrade the modem for several hundred dollar or upgrade the entire infotainment system for several thousand. That's assuming the car actually still has 3G. Either upgrade could take weeks or months, but the car...

    Charging Question

No. If you have a typical residential setup that only meters energy (i.e., no demand charges), then the cost only depends on the amount of energy (i.e. kilowatt-hours) that you consume which is essentially not dependent on charging speed (i.e. power). For commercial fleets, especially for heavy...

Purchasing a used model s in AZ

Unless the dealer will warrant in writing that the unlimited supercharging and unlimited data will transfer to you, you should consider those things to be a bonus. You should consider how you will react if you need a $20,000 battery and/or a $6500 drive unit. Beyond the money, you should be...

That's what we call it at work. I work with heavy duty zero-emission vehicles. I don't where it came from, but I first heard it in the 1990s from guys who designed motor drives. Transportation is a traction application and the motor drives (inverters) are configured for traction as opposed to...

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

Thank you for the helpful information. I'm glad the FM retains full capability. And, yes, that popcorn noise is there with HVAC off. Actually, it's worse with the HVAC off. I was driving the car home moments ago and I realized how much I'm going to miss it when I sell it next year. There are...

I'm getting the FM but I listen to NPR about an hour a day so I think it will be worth it. I know you can stream NPR stations but I do like the reliability and ease of over-the-air broadcasts. My upgrade appointment is in 2 days. Tesla delayed it once already.

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

There is an SD card in MCU1 that holds the navigation data. Apparently it is rewritten nearly continuously and the flash used by Tesla wasn't designed for that duty cycle. As a result, the card is prone to failure. Unfortunately, it is not easily accessible. At least the right side dash trim...

Good to know. I'm glad I didn't attempt the SD card install. I thought about it but I was worried it would be frustrating and might now work. Another thread said they copied the contents of someone else's SD card before they installed it, but it wasn't clear if that was necessary. Bummer on the...

    Recalled UMC Adapter

I recently discovered that my Gen 1 UMC still has the recalled 101435-00-B NEMA 6-50 adapter. I think this recall dates to 2016. Does anybody know if Tesla is still replacing these and how I would go about getting a replacement?

Thank you for the detailed info. It would have been nice if the card had failed before the LTE upgrade but sadly it did not. I have an upgrade appointment for mid-March so I'm guessing everything will be done by the end of April. 😅 What an experience this car has been. At least it drives nicer...

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

@Aggmeister2010 , yes, I'm pretty certain that card is bad. GPS seems to be working fine because anything that is location-dependent like Homelink is working correctly. Besides the money, it doesn't sound like there are too many downsides to MCU2 so I'll probably go that route.

Position updates. Maps display (for now). It will not download new maps and refuses to navigate until new maps are downloaded. There is an alert to this effect.

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

@SilverGS I'm not sure what issue eMMC resolved, but it since it was recalled I fixed it. My understanding is the navigation data is stored on a removable flash card which is constantly being rewritten. I am under the impression that this flash card has reached the end of its useful life and...

    Opinions Wanted: Upgrade to MCU2

I have a 2013 85 with MCU1, premium connectivity, emmc recall completed, and 4G upgrade complete. The traction battery has about 65k on it and I'm expecting to need a drive unit replacement within a year or two. (Tesla has already recommended replacing the drive unit.) The car has unlimited...

Out of Warranty Drive Unit Replacement and Cost

My out of warranty estimate for a 2013 Model S 85 drive unit replacement from Tesla is $5000 parts and $935 labor. (I rounded to $5 increments.) Here's the interesting part: the car had a really bad clunk when switching between accelerating and braking. They replaced a drive bushing and the...
