    Safe to install software update?

Hi folks. I haven't been keeping up with the forums in a long time. I've got a '17 Model X 90D in the UK. It's running version 2023.6.8 ca519fc096f3, and I've not updated the software in a long time in case my ultrasonic sensors get disabled, like radar did for Autopilot. Does anyone know if...

    Free supercharging transfer

I don't know, I thankfully never got FSD. They only mentioned supercharging on the phone to me. If I speak to them again, I can ask. Ha, ours is our 2013 Renault Zoe that now does about 60 miles on a full charge and in which the heating does not work. Not fun for the school run at this time of...

    Free supercharging transfer

Tesla are offering an overnight test drive thingy, so I might give that a go out of curiosity if nothing else. It's been so long since I seriously considered the MYP that I'm not sure what things I'd miss about the MX. I'm sure there'd be some.

    Free supercharging transfer

Hmm, I hadn't thought about the suspension. My eldest is now 14 and would rather be seen dead than getting out of the falcon-wing doors. They're kinda fun and cool, but a bit of a pain in the arse when you want to get going quickly or someone presses a button when they shouldn't have. When we...

    Free supercharging transfer

I saw some threads about this from US posters, but I just got a call from Tesla Gatwick offering to transfer free supercharging to a new vehicle. I'm not keen on a MYP with no ultrasonics, no radar, no premium connectivity, and ChuckleVision, but this is the first time I've even thought about...

Charging at 34kW from 26miles charge to 126miles.

I gave up charging at Dartford, and went 20ish miles down the road to Maidstone (contender for the worst supercharger in the UK?). I once again started at 35kW on a shared V2, but after at least 20 minutes it got up to 65kW. I'm hoping that means it was just an issue at Dartford, and not with...

Charging at 34kW from 26miles charge to 126miles.

Looking at your postcode, this wouldn't be the Dartford supercharger, would it? I'm there now in my MX90D after a service, and I'm only getting 34kW despite the battery being at 50%. Normally I'd be expecting it to be charging with full force. I've tried two separate stalls and got the same...

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

I haven't been on here in months, but just came back to ask for some advice about a repair that my MX needs. I thought I'd just put a post script on this thread after having read the Walter Isaacson biography of Elon Musk. A lot of the things that I read in the book confirmed some of my...

    CV boot/gaiter needs replacing?

Has anyone else had an outer CV boot/gaiter on the front off-side replaced? When having the front tyres replaced, folks at the garage observed that there was a lot of grease around the CV boot, and suggested that maybe it had cracked. I saw there was a similar thread about a MYLR. Tesla are...

Flimwell Supercharger - new parking fee?

What an absolute bunch of dog-joggers. I used to go there whilst my eldest was doing gymnastics nearby. She's stopped going, so I'm unlikely to visit Flimwell any time soon, but in the last year I've saved about £1,600 on charging with a combination of free supercharging and local free...

    Windscreen crack

Following advice on here, I called Direct Line, and their automated system then sent me an SMS with a link to the Autoglass booking system. It presumably was a custom front-end, and it had the Direct Line logo on. Autoglass came out a few hours later to repair it, which luckily went smoothly...

    Windscreen crack

I've got a bit of an impact-crack in the front-left of my Model X windscreen. It's two cracks at about a 135 degree angle, 1cm long on each side of the centre. Autoglass will repair it for £210 or thereabouts. The excess on my Direct Line policy is £25. Autoglass are Direct Line's preferred...

Premium Connectivity and Spotify is a joke

Yep, exactly right, and I misunderstood this for years despite doing quite a lot with computers and networks. Signal strength is, well, the signal strength. What that doesn't tell you is how much available bandwidth the network has between you and the nearest mast. A bit like in the olden days...

Premium Connectivity and Spotify is a joke

Is it necessary to be so snippy with our American chums? Firstly, they may end up in threads like these entirely by accident by just reviewing "latest posts" and not diving into particular forums. Second, it's of some use to know that features work in some circumstances, therefore they're not...

    Parking and charging in Brighton?

Cripes, how many times a year do they do this? I once did 50 miles in a day on my Brompton, but it was absolutely flat. Those hills on the way into Brighton can chip right off.

    Prevent car remembering climate settings?

After six years it's really beginning to get on my nerves that my Model X seems to remember/make up a climate setting whenever you unlock it. We often leave the car parked with the doors open (working on a barn conversion, get there and need to get tools in and out of the car). It's a bit daft...

    Parking and charging in Brighton?

Do any locals have advice on good parking/charging locations in Brighton? I've got the dubious pleasure of taking my eldest and her mate to see some Minecraft streamer do a live show at the Brighton Centre on Sunday. I don't need to charge, but might save some kerfuffle on the way home if I can...

    TomTom dash install

Taking the thread on a tangent (I'm amazed that people still use TomTom, and I'm pleased for the folks I worked with at WebFleet Systems), I feel the same way about Meta. Never had a Facebook account, stopped using WhatsApp and switched to Signal. Would love a VR system but Oculus are Meta, so...

    [UK] Price cuts

🤷‍♂️ Possibly. Sounds like we have quite different experiences. All I know for sure is that my Model X now allows autopilot to be engaged in fewer circumstances, and if that's because of a dodgy camera, it doesn't improve my opinion of Tesla much more than the possibility of autopilot's software...

    [UK] Price cuts

Sadly not in winter. I moaned about it in another thread at the time, but for a few months either side of December, I can't go south-east down the M20 on autopilot in the morning, and I can't do the return journey north-west in the evening. Which sucks when that's the route I have to go!
  25. DeejUK

    [UK] Price cuts

I did get a HW2.5 upgrade last year. I thought the cause of the regression was generally well-accepted though - they stopped using radar input, meaning that if the cameras are dazzled or it's raining the forward depth perception goes?
  26. DeejUK

    [UK] Price cuts

For me, Autopilot definitely does. It can be engaged less often when the sun is low in the sky, or when it's raining: so > 50% of the UK year. I'd be pretty hacked off if I commuted daily on the south-east/north-west motorway route that I often take which exposes these issues the most.

    [UK] Model S/X LHD Discussion

It looks like those peeps are being a tad inconsiderate if they know that you're behind them, but I'm obliged to make the regular reminder that cyclists are entitled to be anywhere in the lane that they so choose. By the looks of that road, if they didn't know that you were there, then the...

Model X jack pads in the UK?

Another one for future thread necromancers: I couldn't actually see the u-joint after removing the frunk bin and HEPA filter. I could however see it by steering full-lock to the right, and with suspension set to "very high" I managed to get my arm in with a can of WD40 that had a bendy...

Model X jack pads in the UK?

Can anyone recommend a place to get Model X jack pads in the UK, ideally in-person or with fast delivery? Will these do? I saw some that appear to be out of stock or no longer sold that are the size of the whole plate, which somehow seems sturdier to me. My MX has developed stiff steering...

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

There are quite a few things, I think. Elon has too much influence, and is making poor choices (elaborated below). Elon understands the value of continuous delivery, continuous improvement, and simplification. However, he's been fortunate to be correct a few too many times, and now thinks he's...

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

I only pop on here rarely now, and mostly to see people's reactions to things like the RHD S/X situation. Reading Electrek has become an exercise in schadenfreude and amusement at what bonkers decision Elon has come up with lately - like approving all hires personally. I'm amused that this...

Advice on selling a Model S in the UK?

    [UK] Model S/X LHD Discussion

Off the top of my head, the issues I've had with my Model X post-warranty include: Driver door no longer opening Noise when turning the wheel, which turned out to be grit under the bash plate, although they charged me £1,200 to replace something else that didn't fix it Heating failing, needing...

Electrek reports "Tesla slashes Supercharger prices across Europe"

If you look at the graph earlier in this thread, it shows that energy prices across Europe started going up in September 2021, mostly because of the weather and its impact on renewables. So the start of the Ukraine war certainly made things worse, but its timing coincided with being about six...

    Camborne (Cornwall) Supercharger?

Thanks, I didn't know that. I tend to do my route-planning on the desktop, as I find it easier to work out how good the facilities are that way. It seems like Tesla's own web-based map is really out-of-date though!
  43. DeejUK

    Camborne (Cornwall) Supercharger?

    Camborne (Cornwall) Supercharger?

Is Cambourne Supercharger a thing? ABRP suggests that it is, but I can't see it on the Tesla Supercharger map. I did a quick search of the forums and found reference to it, but didn't spot any messages saying that it had closed or been removed. Any ideas? I'm taking the fam to Cornwall...

    Power steering 'silent' failure

Thanks for the help, folks. With the assistance of my dad, an electric jack that barely worked, a brick, a couple of bits of wood, a jack stand, and enough WD40 to fill a bathtub, it now seems to be fixed!

    Power steering 'silent' failure

Any idea how hard it would be for a novice to jack up a Model X, remove a wheel, squirt some lube at the U-joint, and put everything back together?

    Power steering 'silent' failure

Hmm. After watching the video in this post, I went out and tried turning the steering wheel before pressing the break. The wheels turned, but crikey, it required a lot of force. I pressed the brake and drove it around the car park (parking lot for our transatlantic friends) and steering was...

    Power steering 'silent' failure

_sigh_ The steering on my '17 MX90D just became suddenly quite stiff. The missus was driving at the time, and she says it's like driving a car without power steering. I've given it a drive myself, and the steering is weirdly intermittent - as you're turning the steering wheel, it seems to go...

    Security of Phone/Card/Key?

You seem to have a baked-in assumption that Bob doesn't make similarly poor security choices with his phone. If you're suggesting that Bob's Tesla is more secure because he can have longer passwords/biometric auth on his phone, then a simpler and more sensible solution would be to advocate for...
