Ok I’ll bite… so many questions:
- is this a M3 SR or LR?
- any other error messages on screen?
- did airbags go off?
- is car drivable? (Probably not with tow truck there, but have to ask)
- which panels damaged? (Hard to tell on white, reflections)
- any other damage? Tires? Leaking fluids...
No, it’s your car now. Tesla will have to fix it under the new car warranty terms. But battery replacements are something that Tesla has down do the T. If it is in stock, it just takes a few days for it to be done. If it takes several weeks, then you could explore a way out via the lemon law...
OP - YOLO. 😂
Sorry, TLDR. YOLO 💪
Cars like plaids are rarely sensible, logical buys. They are emotional buys, vanity buys, egoistic buys, or any other word you want to describe it as 😁
Glad you are in a position to make these decisions. It’s your hard earned money. Just do it. YOLO 😂
All...
My silly way of rationalizing it is like this - when all doors/windows are closed, you can’t slam the hatch down as you’d be creating an overpressure situation and Tesla being Tesla, a window, glass or other area under pressure will pop (whatever that means). Thus the “soft” close.
You read...
It’s because you have a door open, then it “slams” close.
When all your doors are closed, it’s a “soft” close.
I figured it’s something to do with air pressure or some other vague reason.
I thought Tesla doesn’t recommend using aluminum wiring or something like that?
(I don’t have a WC, but remember prior discussions about it, thus the question)
‘22 MYP, we don’t drive too much, so only charge once or twice a week from ~20% till 70-80%. Sometimes at home, sometimes at L2 public charger, sometimes at supercharger. Depends on time of day, cost and convenience 😁
When it’s done and completed, please share the experience - data points like yours will help others out tremendously.
Not putting words in @jjrandorin ‘s mouth, but I think what he was alluding to is that Tesla is notoriously flaky at the first sign of trouble or complexity. We have anecdotes...
This may be because of Tesla Vision at work? You don’t have USS, right? Don’t see this happening with USS… traffic cones or something similar may be your only option.
And for “regular” visits like tires and rotations, any regular tire shop will do it.
Tesla service centers are overloaded and overbooked. They’ll see you when they want to and can see you. The only high priority issues that will necessitate an immediate visit are HV battery failures.
Overall...
Return policy? Unless your state has consumer laws related to a cooling off period, Tesla has long gotten rid of any type of return policy. Once you open that door and drive it off, it’s yours.
Makes me wonder… does any state still have a state-mandated cooling off period related to auto...
Ideally you’d get this, so you don’t find yourself stranded (in case you can’t get the superchargers to work). Using the J1772 for Level 2 charging only will make for a very long trip home…
Too late to get a CCS adapter now, but EA or other third party charging stations are also an option in a pickle. Maybe you can swing by the nearest SC and they have one for purchase? Just an option
So… this website isn’t affiliated with Tesla in anyway 😁
And there isn’t any sign of anyone from Tesla ever coming on here in an official capacity for input, feedback, suggestions or anything like that. Just letting you know in case you’re looking for an official response of any kind.
sorry...
Ha glad I checked here… same issue, NorCal, started around 9am too. Was going to open a service request and glad I waited. Will have and see how it goes I guess…
It’s about at this point where I think the ROI is greatest to have someone do it 😂
On my hands/knees for an hour (especially the first time), or just drive over and wait 🤔😁
Just a heads-up that reaming the hole and driving the plug into the hole takes a lot more strength and leverage than most...
Battery coolant is blue, and if a cell was actually pierced, I’d think the car would go into an auto-shutdown (I’d hope so).
Plus OP said it was to the rear, whereas the battery pack is more towards the center under the passenger compartment. But it’s still a guess… we’re waiting for OP to...
Luckily, no breaking in required 😜
But I’m genuinely curious though - why buy a 10-yr old car with known design issues and defects? For the FUSC?
I mean, it’s still immaculate inside, but a 10-yr old car, is still a 10-yr old car.
better pictures with a better idea of location would help. In any case, as others suggested, stop driving it, make a service appt, and it probably needs to be towed to the SC
And if the damage was caused by debris/road hazard, Tesla most likely won’t cover it under warranty.
First problem: there are no known avenues where Tesla will even accept such feedback or pay attention. You can even say they don’t care for user feedback; if they do, the current process or mechanism is unknown.
Second problem: have no doubt your suggestions are relevant (TLDR)… but the bulk of...
It’s gone. Doubt any insurer/shop will want to spend the $ and hours fixing this.
Edit: if the used value for this is $18-20k, it’s definitely a goner.
Not the answer OP is looking for, but I remember this thread was discussing similar challenges and options.
Agree with others, no local municipality is ever going to approve a non-permanent solution. Even if they accepted a WC fixed to a post, the trenching, electrical and all that will cost...
That looks like windshield washer fluid… could it have been overfilled and spilled over? Can you look under the car and try to find the source of the fluid? Or at least where it’s dripping from.

You’re close to meeting the minimum requirements (4 attempts in 2 years, 30 days out of service). Go search for a lemon law attorney and see what they say?
1. Yes, call around. Some PDR shops may be willing to take this on too. Window is gonna cost a pretty penny.
3. Give it shot… though they may say parking is at your own risk. No harm asking to see what comes out of it.
A lease is not like a car rental. Unfortunately, you will have to call Tesla Finance or look at your contract for your early termination options (it’s not gonna be cheap or pretty). Even as Tesla leases cannot be sold to other dealers or bought out by you, your only other feasible option is to...
It’s been a long time since Ford announced the intention not to manufacture cars/sedans anymore. Goes as far back as 2018/2019 I think
