Plaid Suspension / Steering clicking issue.

As an update (2022 MS), I have visited SC 4 times so far for this issue. The first couple times, the noise went away for a few days. The third time, the noise went away for almost a year. The last time was quite recent so no noise yet. I was told that they put some foam between the bash plate...

Poll for California Drivers - Did You Install Your Front License Plate?

No front plates on Tesla or previous cars. I did get one fix-it ticket in around 20 years of driving.

    Window Tinting ruined my Door....

Would you mind elaborating why removing door panels on Tesla would not help with installation? I thought it would give some extra space and would make it easier to clean the glass and apply the tint? This way, there is no need to install the tool (speed loader?) that you mentioned to provide the...

DIY front window tint, the case for doing it yourself!

Great job! Would you say removing the door panels would make the job easier? I plan to do this on a model S refresh.

    Time to DIY PPF!!

My guess is you might have some leftover wax or sealant on the surface. I had some issues like that. Wiping the surface clean with an alcohol solution or cleaner and clean microfiber towel helped tremendously.

Will install DIY PPF over the weekend from Tesbros on MY

That’s all excellent points, especially about getting some help: someone to help unroll the PPF, spray a little bit here and there and keeping an eye on larger pieces to make sure corners do not slide down.

    Time to DIY PPF!!

I was taking my time since it was my first time doing it. Front and rear bumper took half a day each (the longest). The hood took a couple hours. The rocker panels a couple hours for both. The smaller pieces - take much shorter. Regarding the mirrors - if you can get someone to help you with...

Plaid Suspension / Steering clicking issue.

Short update from my side. I had the clicking noise since I got the car. I went to SC to fix it. It came back a few days later and the “technical advisor” (using the term loosely here) was telling me all kinds of things that could be summarized that some Tesla S and X do that and there is...

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Hmm. Many thanks for the work you have done! I will need to do the wiring in the next six month. I will get started with your experience and recommendations and see if I can make it work. I hope Tekonsha wires can be extended to reach the other wires that you mentioned. I wonder how Tesla is...

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

I have found a couple videos on installing hitch wiring using Tekonsha on earlier model S (not refresh). Has anyone tried to follow them (and adopt as needed) for the refresh?

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Please post pics. I am also interested in what you would end up doing to prevent galvanic corrosion between aluminum body and steel hitch. Some people use plastic washers, others use some rubber inserts or paint.

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Hi. Thanks everyone for contributing to this very useful thread. Quick question. For those who install model X hitch on model S, do you put any vinyl washer? To prevent the metal corrosion that someone else mentioned?

DIY PPF on 2022 Blue Model S

In my case, that was the first time doing PPF ever. It turned out quite nicely. If I compare to professionally-done bumpers and fenders on two other cars, I would say I did a better job (it took me much longer than what a professional would spend). I did end up with a couple air bubbles but...

DIY PPF on 2022 Blue Model S

Same here. Fast shipping, good prices. I would suggest contacting him directly rather than selecting a kit from the site. He was quite flexible and gave me very good price for exactly what I wanted.

Does anyone know if the snow chains for OEM size fits either if these sizes?

Best All Weather Tires for Model Y 20" Induction Wheels

That’s a pretty big drop in the range - 10% just from the tires. Is that a typical number?

Best All Weather Tires for Model Y 20" Induction Wheels

What is the reason you went wider than the stock tires? Does it protect from curb rush a bit better? Any rubbing?
  20. D

Best All Weather Tires for Model Y 20" Induction Wheels

For those who installed non-OEM tires, I have a few questions: - Do you need to transfer the foam (used for sound deadening) from the original Tesla tires? Or you skipped this step? Does this foam really help with reducing the road noise? - Have you noticed any difference in terms of the range...

    Tint & PPF issues

I did DIY PPF on one of the cars. As long as you take your time prepping the car, learn the proper techniques, and go slow, it should turn out ok. I compared PPF that I installed with two professionally-installed PPF front ends and my installation was cleaner and it was my first time doing it.

    Tint & PPF issues

If the panels were recently done, it should be fine to remove the PPF without damaging the paint. Many people have done it.

    Tint & PPF issues

Those dust particles are quite large to be easily noticeable. If the technician was paying attention, he would notice them and remove while squeegeeing the film.

Any Recommendation for 3M Crystalline tint shops ? BayArea CA

Subscribed to watch as I am curious too. I visited a few shops locally but could not find any that I was satisfied with. Some shops wanted 1200 for the tint (including the roof) but the work that was done was not that good.

    Tint & PPF issues

That is very horrible job! The edges were probably not ghost-gloved and presence of debris under the film shows the quality of the job is very poor. The fingerprint under the film means that they touched it with dry hands, which is a big no-no. The cuts are very sloppy too. The bubbles are not...

Agree. I am not planning to contact Tesla about this.

Tekonsha 118831 trailer harness: brakes do not work

By the way, the guy in the video said that he had to leave the 4-pin wire (the one that connects to the trailer in his trunk storage compartment). There is a way (not easy but possible) to fish the wire inside the bumper and to the hitch plastic cover without removing the bumper.

Tekonsha 118831 trailer harness: brakes do not work

Hi. Yes, I fixed the problem. I got another Tekonsha harness (universal, contactless) and followed below video. I do not particularly like this way as the wiring is quite ugly but it works. I may redo it in the future. Much cleaner solution is to DIY connector to the factory harness.

Tekonsha 118831 trailer harness: brakes do not work

Not yet. I got another harness from Tekonsha and will try to install it this weekend. I will let you know if it works.

Tekonsha 118831 trailer harness: brakes do not work

Ok, I guess I figured it out. This harness does not work on the newer 2021 model Y. Tesla updated tail lights somewhere around middle of 2020 and this Tekosha harness is not connected to grey wire that is the brake wire in the new harness. I will need either another harness or DIY into the...

Tekonsha 118831 trailer harness: brakes do not work

No, I do not have brake controller connected. Forgot to mention, model Y is 2021 (assembled in October, 2020).

Tekonsha 118831 trailer harness: brakes do not work

I have just installed the eco hitch and tekonsha trailer harness (supposedly for Model Y 2021). After connecting the tester for the harness, I am getting turn signals working ok but brakes do not work. There were some reports of this on YouTube (in comments) but so far I have not seen any...

    Underwhelming delivery experience

My delivery was being delayed so I had spent around 5-6 hours walking around Fremont delivery lot. I saw some things I wish I hadn't. The worst is the detailing stage, some examples: - Dropping microfiber towels on the ground and picking them up to continue detailing seems to be not a big deal...

Plaid Suspension / Steering clicking issue.

My car goes into service next week (to address this and some other issues). Will report back. From what I read here (and other places) so far, the standard solution from the SC that has proved to work is to: - tighten all the six 15mm bolts to specs - remove and clean debris behind the bash...

Plaid Suspension / Steering clicking issue.

Thank you. I had one appointment, they torqued everything and it was quiet for a couple weeks but then it came back. I am going to a second appointment soon. I keep my fingers crossed.

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

No charger. If I use chargers, the door opens just fine. My door does not open very well when I press on it. The way it looks is it sits too deep and there is not much space to press it down before it opens.
  37. D

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

On the other hand, I am quite astonished by the level of blatant lies from the service advisor who was claiming that Tesla modified the charging port in refresh model and removed the functionality of opening it by pressing the cover.
  38. D

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

It is annoying indeed. My prior experience was opening it from the screen or app but it sometimes closes before I insert the charger. Have you tried pressing on the wider section of the door (towards the rear)?
  39. D

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

Strange. On our "Y", you can press anywhere and the door opens up.
  40. D

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

Thank you! I went back to my car and found out that the door opens up if you press on the middle of the wider section toward the rear of the car. Indeed, pressing on the front section or bottom section does nothing. The door seems to be recessed too much, FWIW.

Plaid Suspension / Steering clicking issue.

Has the tightening the bolts helped longterm? I took my car to service center, they tightened the bolts to specs but the noise came back after a few days.

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

I have 2022 (with redesigned rear end and matrix headlights). The online manual under my account suggests that charging port door should open if pressed but any confirmation from someone who has 2022 MS would be helpful.
  43. D

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

I just reviewed the manual for my car and based on it, the door should be opened if pressed.
  44. D

Model S 2022 - charging door does not open if pressed - normal?

I picked up Tesla Model S 2022 recently and I have noticed that my charging port door does not open if pressed. We have model Y, which has similar design of charging port door and it DOES open if you press on it but not on model S. I visited local Service Center today (for another issue) and I...

    2021 MS Chademo issues

Have you been able to solve the issue? I have exactly the same. My refresh model S charge only when the battery is below 50% using CHaDeMo. Model Y charges just fine.

Similar here. I was pretty sure there were no bubbles under PPF when I finished the squeeging but then they started to appear.
