    [UK] 2024.8.x

Exactly. Which is what I wanted (and expected). However I was a little worried it'd be tied in some way to auto high beams.

I'm yet to drive in the dark (curse the lengthening days!) but this is exactly what I want to hear. This is how I hoped they'd work 🙂

    UK FSD Discussion

If we accept the hypothesis that driverless cars won't drive like humans/complete idiots braking won't cause a pile up as no car will be tailgating/too close to stop

    Stalkless....until 2026 anyway!

I actually liked the iDrive in our old E61

    S3XY Knob Deliveries

I installed mine yesterday. Used the rear install method. Pretty simple. I’d say it took about 10 mins including firmware updates for both devices. It looks great. I think anyone not familiar with the car would think it’s stock. At least to look at. Even the commander and cable are pretty hard...

    S3XY Knob Deliveries

Mine is out for delivery today. At least I assume that's what it is. Not expecting anything else shipped from Sofia! Probably won't have time to even think about fitting it till the weekend though.

How many people are having connectivity issues?

Yes. Sometimes it's fine. Sometimes the app (and Octopus IO) takes ages to access the car. In the car sometimes it has instant data connectivity. Sometimes it takes 5-10 mins to connect. No real pattern observed.

    Does pre-conditioning = Defrost functi

Maybe Ice. Defrost melted 5cm of snow off the car!

Whats your favourite and least favourite supercharger and why?

Stopped at Rugby twice at the weekend. What an amazing services. Loads of chargers (although late Sunday afternoon 25/28 superchargers in use and all 10 of the working non-superchargers in use). Lovely services building. Even a soft play frame for the kids. Great.

    [UK] 2023.38

Did about 400 miles at the weekend with 2023.38.6. Boy is autopilot worse! Lots of breaking overtaking cars. Seemed to me that as the car being overtaken naturally oscillated slightly in it's lane autopilot would misinterpret this as the car swerving over and brake hard.

    So… Highland is out…

I think it was the Facebook part that was being challenged. Facebook (even in the very private initial form) is less than 20 years old. Although scarily next year is the 20 year anniversary of the founding

    Abington Supercharger/Driving North

We can do Eurocentral then Tebay on the way back. I think that’ll be the plan. Wife was not impressed with the cleanliness of the toilets at Perth (I’ve not used them before)
  13. R

    Abington Supercharger/Driving North

There are a few options but in terms of splitting the journey (and wee stops) they are less than ideal. On the way back down I’ll go Perth/Tebay as the diversion to Tebay is worth it as it’ll be about time to eat. On the way up it’s not I should also note we were not the only Telsa to make the...

    Abington Supercharger/Driving North

With Abington down for weeks it’s really revealing a lack of resiliency and depth in the Supercharger network driving North/South. I drove Harrogate to Aberdeen yesterday. I’ve done this journey before with Abington/Perth being the two stops that are well suited to the car and its occupants...

Can you drive your Tesla in the rain?

I suspect what the people in the story are not telling us is that they drove through relatively deep standing water.

Hankooks on the 19s for me too. Although as that was a little more than a year ago it's probably not massively relevant today.

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

The problem is we often compare residential EV tariff overnight rates. This is not really a fair comparison. Commercial rates are/were uncapped. And generally did not offer anything like the discount rate at night. Add on costs to cover maintenance of the charger (hopefully they have a...

I can't make up my mind if that's going to mean it's fixed faster or slower. I feel if it was a Tesla hardware issue they'd fix it in days. However if there are multiple companies impacted that might encourage the DNO (or whoever is responsible) to fix quicker. I worry anything involving the DNO...

M3 Refresh - Are Indicator buttons really poor design?

So I’ve just come back from driving a little in our Model Y. Being as this is the UK I had to go round a few roundabouts. I paid particular attention to where my hands were when I needed to indicate. On entry if I needed to indicate I’d be indicating before I entered the roundabout so my hands...

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

I’m not in the position of renewing the insurance on the Tesla. Seems like insurers have woken up to the performance ☹️ I’m not being quoted numbers higher than when I had a modified Elise in Zone 2 in London! So far my renewal quote from Hastings Direct is cheaper than any new customer quote...

M3 Refresh - Are Indicator buttons really poor design?

Perhaps the level S3XY buttons people can come up with some contextual solution? Say you attach two buttons to the back of the wheel so they are easy to trigger. When the wheel is less than say 100° rotated the left button does left, the right does right. After enough rotation the swap

M3 Refresh - Are Indicator buttons really poor design?

Probably worth noting BMW are moving this way too. From BMW’s Neue Klasse points to a radical reinvention for future sedans “That's paired with controls integrated into the steering wheel plus what BMW promises is a new level of voice interactivity and control.” and take a look at the image: no...

M3 Refresh - Are Indicator buttons really poor design?

Some of the may depend on how you drive. It you are a wheel shuffler (standard Uk technique) this may be annoying. If you’ve ever done a track day and had tuition you might keep your hands in a fixed place on the wheel and (shock horror) cross your arms. Then it might be fine Unleash your inner...

    So… Highland is out…

Maybe it’s dirty up north but I manually wash the screen pretty frequently. Thats now a button on the steering wheel. I’m sure it’d become just as ingrained as the button on the end of the stalk. As much as that is now muscle memory I had to learn that and when I first got the car I didn’t even...

    So… Highland is out…

Fully charged review answered this. Yes you can. And you can use Bluetooth headphones in the back so you can listen to the movie whilst the main car audio system plays something else. Hope it supports two sets of Bluetooth headphones!

Model Y Bigger wheels - Less range?

The smaller wheels come with aero covers that provide a significant drag advantage, especially at speed.

    So… Highland is out…

Do you think you can watch Disney+ on the rear screen only whilst driving?
  31. R

    So… Highland is out…

i wonder how long until someone has a rear screen transplanted into an older car or a Y. I know there are third party ones but I’d prefer not to install some random Android installation! Is this the first main stream (not a Ferrari) car with indicators on the wheel?
  32. R

    S3XY knob anyone?

I can see the utility. I used to quite like the iDrive in our old BMW so the rotary controller appeals. Given the early bird pricing I figure there is little to lose. If I don't like it can probably sell it for close to purchase price once the new price climbs so I've ordered one.

3 car seats in the back

One thing to think about is isofix. For short journeys we’ve managed to fit a grandparent between the seats by moving them off the isofix mounting to seatbelt only (a supported option for our seats) and pushing them right out to the edges.
  34. R

3 car seats in the back

We would not get 3 seats of the type we use in the back of our Y. We have 2x Britax Römer Kidifix III and the space between them is not huge. Maybe 30-40cm between them

Model Y Hankook tyres - how many miles would you expect from them?

Vote with your feet then! Same exact tyre (I've not checked if that's the correct size: I just plugged that into BlackCircles) is £230.03 fitted at my location. Still a lot of money but £80 a corner is a big saving.

Ripple Energy: "shared solar" -- views?

Same here. But what can we do about it? About as much as Ripple can: nothing. They (and we) are powerless against the grid and as far as I am aware there is no comeback: no SLA on the grid for deliver, no penalties for failing to deliver ☹️
  41. R

Ripple Energy: "shared solar" -- views?

As did/does Kirk Hill. But that's still whats caused that project to drop from 2023 to early 2024 energisation ☹️

Typical modern UX. Hide all the options behind overflow menus to "make it clean". There is little wrong with the current screen!

Ripple Energy: "shared solar" -- views?

I'm an investor. Both in Derril Water and in Kirk Hill. We already have solar on the roof. Due to the shapes and orientations we can't put more on there and still draw 7500kWh from the grid a year (and 33000 kWh in gas which will have to be dealt with too). So it's a way of bringing down the...

No, its totally separate. Last year they removed radar (months before removing USS) and moved to relying on vision only for cruise/autopilot. But at the time Elon said something about seeing the value in HD Radar. Ever since people have been waiting for HD Radar to be revealed

Model Y Hankook tyres - how many miles would you expect from them?

Model Y weighs 1930kg (according to a quick Google), BMW X3 1,875 to 2,085 kg so basically the same. EV tyres are clearly not necessary purely for weight. Torque maybe

Model Y Hankook tyres - how many miles would you expect from them?

Is it me or are the Hankooks quite expensive? On black circles plenty of some brands (e.g. Continental SportContact 5) cheaper. Obviously they don't have the sound deadening in the Tesla Hankooks but how much difference does that really make? If i had to buy 4 tyres right now I might be tempted...
