Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

I'll tell you why I canceled mine. I reserved my Model S in 2009. I had never agreed to tie up money for that long for anything before (and I didn't even realize it would be 3 years instead of the 1.5 I expected). One of the things that kept me going while waiting the three years was knowing...

    Reboot vs. Steering?

Has anyone else noticed the steering mode change momentarily when rebooting the center screen? I've rebooted a bunch of times while on a freeway, but the other day I did it on a windy road for the first time. I almost lost control during the reboot when suddenly the steering mode obviously...

    75% Insurance Increase

Just got a renewal notice from Geico and they raised my rates by 75% starting in December. I was able to switch to Liberty Mutual and get it back down to close to where Geico was (for a year).

Does scheduled charging work for the "top-off" that regularly occurs?

I know that the MS "tops-off" around every 24 hours if the SOC gets far enough below the target. Can anyone tell me whether or not the scheduled charging setting is actually taken into account when it does that? I am starting Time-Of-Use metering this week, so would like to know. Thanks, Ron

Can someone make a D.I.Y. key locator?

I've lost my spare key and I know it's somewhere in the house (I think I hid it from my wife and can't remember where I hid it). Anyone have any ideas how to make a locator? Does the key send out regular RF pings, or does it just respond to regular pings from the car? It must be one or the...

Trying Ft. Lauderdale-Sarasota and back on Saturday

We'll see if I can make it. I will be stopping at the FMY supercharger at around 10am in order to make a spring training game in SRQ at 1pm. After the game I will be driving right back, without recharging. Google Maps says around 90 miles each way from the supercharger, so I will try to...

Supercharger - Port St. Lucie, FL

Couldn't find a thread for this one, so creating it now. I charged there on Wednesday night. The location is even better than was obvious from Google Maps, in terms of food choices. There are probably 10 restaurants in the shopping center.

    Two Goodyear 19" tires

My rear tires were worn down so I got a set of 4 Michelins. I now have my front Goodyears available, in great condition. They have 8/32 of tread left (double-checked with the SC here in Dania Beach). I'm not sure what's fair to ask for them. Based on what I've seen on Ebay, it seems like in...

    Florida HPWC Wire Hanger Problem

I assume that most people's garages in Florida are like mine, and not drywall but CB. The screws and installation materials that come with the wire hanger will not work at all in this situation.

    Orlando suggestions

I agree that the best way to do Orlando in the Model S is to stay at a hotel with a charger, and that's what I did last weekend. It worked out great. However, there are certain times where you simply don't have a choice in hotel. For example, I am going to Orlando on Thursday, and then...

    Some Superchargers found

It seems like Tesla filed a bunch of electrical permits on 5/16. Over at TM.com in the state of Washington section, they found permit applications and locations for SCs in Burlington and Centralia. I was inspired by that and did some searching and found...

    Supercharger in Ft. Myers confirmed

http://permits.leegov.com/tm_bin/tmw_cmd.pl?tmw_cmd=StatusViewCase&shl_caseno=ADD2013-00058 This permit app was filed on 5/16, which I guess means they haven't started yet. The 5/16 date is interesting in that it's the same date that they filed for one in the state of Washington, which was...

Told sudden permanent 15 mile loss of range is "normal"

I just got the car back from service (13,000 miles). I'm pretty disappointed to report that they say that there is no problem with the battery, and my overnight 15 mile range loss is normal function. I have a 5.5% loss for max charge and 3.3% loss for standard charge. They claim to have run...

    19" Tire Replacements?

I've seen some stuff about where to get cheaper yet still high quality replacement tires for the 21", but haven't seen much on the 19". With my annual coming up in the next couple of weeks, I've been thinking about the subject. When the time comes, where should I be looking for new tires...

    Summer service campaign

I was going to wait to post something about this until I could talk to my local service manager, but someone posted about it on the TM board, so I figured I would post here. I got a call yesterday (Saturday) from my service center. The woman told me they need to make some adjustments to my car...

How does the car calculate Wh/mi (twice)?

So, I've been seeing some odd inconsistencies on the trip computer, and have been paying extra attention to it. In at least one thread it was calculated that the Wh/mi to achieve rated mileage is somewhere around 304. Sometimes that seems to be pretty close, and other times it seems that I...

IRS not accepting EV Tax Credit forms until March

Does anyone understand why this form's acceptance is delayed? I don't think it's any different from last year's, is it? Turbotax won't let me e-file because of it. IRS forms that 1040 filers can begin filing in mid-February

    Unofficial Road Trip Thread

I thought it might be useful to have a thread for road trips. I'll start, and anyone else can feel free to contribute (or not). I'm planning my first road trip on Friday, from Weston, FL to Tampa, FL with my son, and returning on Sunday. When I first decided to take this trip (before I even...

    Suspension adjustment nausea!

So, I was at a traffic light today and decided to try adjusting the suspension. It really nauseated me! It feels very odd the way it adjusts the front and then the back, and if you look in the rear view mirror while it is doing it you feel like you are on a boat with choppy seas!

    Installing a HPWC?

With all of the delays in manufacturing, it may now be the case that the HPWC will be available before my car. The problem is that I haven't heard any news on this. I would like to plan whether I need to install the 14-50 to be ready for the car, or if the HPWC will be ready on its own.

    Delivery inspection list?

I would like to be armed with a checklist that I can use when my car is delivered. I'm not as much of an auto nut as many people here are, and could use some help. I've read about issues at the factory like "gaps", and things that are "slightly offset", and these are the sorts of things I...

Where are the supercharger dots in Florida?

I'd like to get a consensus of where people think they are. My first stab is Naples and Vero Beach. I'm hoping that's right. Much further and it will be out of range from Miami. If it's Tampa and Daytona Beach I've got a problem.

    Florida EV Incentives

There are two EV incentives in Florida, and I have questions on both: 1) The use of the EV in the HOV lanes, regardless of the number of passengers, as well as the use of "HOV toll lanes". You need a decal. What is an "HOV toll lane?" Does this include the "Express Lane" on I-95 in Dade...

    Let's Talk FPL Rate Options

I've spent some time looking carefully at my FPL bill, and thought it would be a good idea to have a discussion about options, as some of us come close to having to charge our vehicles at our home. My visit to the beta in Florida today (small new piece of info)

Went to the Florida store today. It was the same Beta as was in Detroit. The salesperson told me that it got "used and abused" in Detroit, and they had to really clean it up. I didn't really learn much new while I was there (thanks to this forum). A friend of mine came along and managed to...

    NHTSA and lithium ion batteries

Just read this on CNN, regarding an investigation of the Volt: Feds open 'formal safety defect' probe into Chevy Volt - CNN.com There's not much detail, but it has me worried that the gov't may have large lithium ion batteries in its sights. For conspiracy theorists, I'm sure it will add...
