    Volume doesn't respond

This worked for me too. What a pain in the butt. Thanks!

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

I’ve been on 11.3.6 for a few weeks and I agree, it seems a significant improvement and much more human-like. Still makes some funky lane choices (though less frequent, it still moves over to the opposite lane necessary for an upcoming turn. This is the most infuriating behavior I’ve found with...

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

Yeah, I take over control when in higher traffic situations because it does not behave predictably like a human would and it could easily confuse other drivers.

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

I see many of the same issues. What drives me bonkers is how it hugs the outside of curves and does not drift to the outside of the lane when passing a car that’s crowding my lane - makes me very uncomfortable. Think v11 is supposed to fix the outside of the curve thing, but I find it way too...

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

I see your point. Other manufacturers measure pressure on the wheel, not torque. But, the issue here is what is the trigger to turn FSD off and hand back control to the driver? I’ve read about this issue a little bit and I think it’s the biggest challenge with autonomy with current technology -...

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

Agree, I’m too impatient and press the gas on most of these situations.

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

Yeah, sharp turns are tweaky. Other observations: - Sucks with speed bumps. Usually doesn’t recognize them and more than willing to barrel over them at full speed. Same with railroad track crossings. - the indefinite creep. It creeps into blind intersections literally until it’s in the middle...

FSD reflections after 3mo of use

TLDR: What driving conditions have you found challenging for FSDb? - FSDb is the best driver assist package available today, but is absolutely not ready to take unsupervised control of your vehicle. - It would work better (and possibly more safely) with a more advanced driver monitoring system...

Full sized spare tire for Model 3?

Where exactly are people attaching the straps to the trunk roof? There are a bunch of holes in the frame up there, but I have no idea about their load carrying capacity and am a little concerned the thin steel could bend under the tension of a ratchet strap and sudden jerks while driving. I...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Haven’t started my commute in earnest, but did my first trip there this week, went the long way and it still only used 49% of battery. I think I’ll plan to charge to 80% for daily commuting purposes. I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised by the trickle charging efficiency so far for my around...

Full sized spare tire for Model 3?

Late to the party. I have a long commute and cannot rely on time if I get a flat (I’m a physician and being late is unacceptable), so I carry a full size spare, jack, puck, compressor, and patch kit as backup. Got the full-size OEM spare on eBay and other stuff on Amazon for less than a modern...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

I ended up buying a used ‘21 LR from Tesla with 12k mi and FSD capability for the price of a new one. (I know controversial, but I’m fascinated by FSD, and how I get to see what happens with it!). Very happy so far, but don’t start the commute for a few months. Will let you know how it goes...

    Unusual Delivery Situation [resolved]

Yeah, I was going to turn it into an adventure to see a good friend in Austin. Also, have access to a truck, so only would have needed a car transporter from Uhaul for a couple hundred bucks. I’m weird.

    Unusual Delivery Situation [resolved]

Fascinatingly, it’s only $500 from Jacksonville, FL to Charlotte, NC, which is 500miles. Also, that it’s twice as much from Austin to Charlotte ($2000) as Austin to Knoxville ($1000), which are both over 1000mi from eachother. Maybe difference is this is a used car vs new?

    Unusual Delivery Situation [resolved]

I did as you say. Actually found exactly what I wanted at my budget somehow this morning instead of “Tesla stretching” on this one. The SA this evening was amazing and even refunded me my original deposit because they hadn’t yet transported or done work on it and I was buying a different vehicle...

    Unusual Delivery Situation [resolved]

Texted with delivery specialist yesterday. Apparently, Texas laws apply to used cars too: “Tesla cannot complete out-of-state registrations for deliveries in the State of Texas, due to Texas state laws. To proceed with delivery, we would need to change your delivery location to North Carolina.”...

    Unusual Delivery Situation [resolved]

Reserved a used ‘22 M3 LR for $500 deposit. Wanted FSD and seemed like the most cost effective way to get it without taking the $12k hit on a new model (also, can’t order a M3 LR right now). I live in NC, but changed my delivery location to Austin as this brought the delivery fee from $2000 to...

Is there an income limit to tax credits this year?

It’s still not clear to me when the income limits take effect, Jan 1, 2022? But assembly immediately? Where in the bill does it say income limits Jan 1? I have order out for Ioniq 5, but dealership basically laughed at me when I suggested a “written sales agreement.”

Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

Agreed. I’ve read the bill a half dozen times and the language is ridiculously confusing. My understanding is the ‘24 thing is batteries manufactured in “countries of concern” - read China - but the 40% minerals origin/processing and 50% components/assembly by cost is 2023. I find it hard to...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Didn’t work. Maybe they’ll let me change it later once they release pricing details. I’m still not sure I’ll qualify by income; it’ll be close. I’d just hate to make a decision now based on the rebate only to find out I don’t qualify come tax season.

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Makes sense. I’m kinda shocked elevation makes such little difference, though I wonder if it’d make more difference in LFP with lower charge density. What I was reading about calendar aging is it really deteriorated above 60-70%, but is minimal below that, that’s why I use 70% as benchmark for...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

FYI I can’t edit my M3 RWD order to M3 LR anymore either. I’m guessing they’ll try to fulfill all orders of 2022 M3 LR at current price, then release 2023 LR at reduced price with “software range update” for a few thousand bucks so they can get price below $55k. They apparently did this in...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Knew this would happen. Bill passes house, now LR, which is one of the most likely models to qualify for rebate under new law if priced <$55k, is off the market until Tesla can figure out if they want to change the price by a few thousand bucks to qualify. Hopefully they reduce price to $55k...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Great data. Looks like elevation isn’t a huge hit in a round-trip scenario, probably <10% rated range. Rain seems like ~5% efficiency loss. I’m still curious about cold weather, which seems like the issue for me - I will definitely want to drive it in 15-20deg weather. Just drove my friend’s...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Yeah, it’s just on i40 about 15min out of the way from how I would commute on 25, but could def work in a pinch if it’s clear I might have a problem. I’m also hoping my new employer has some availability of charging in the garage (even level 1), but it’s not clear, I haven’t had a chance to...
  26. T

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Super helpful. What would you say your variability is on this route for rain, wind or other variable conditions? Ie what is the lowest efficiency you’ve seen doing this route for 100k mi? It appears you have decent elevation on this route, have you found this to be a difference maker?
  27. T

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Yeah, my understanding was that if you don’t charge to 100% with regularity to reset capacity and let the battery wallow around in the middle of SOC, because the LFP voltage is so flat across SOC, the BMS could make errors in estimate SOC that could ultimately result in sudden loss of range when...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

I’ll be driving Asheville to Greenville, SC, so down the mountain into SC. There’s a supercharger in south Asheville, but past there it’s 60mi of nothing until Greenville. LR is def appealing, just not sure I really i live in Asheville, but will be working in Greenville, SC. There’s a...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Yeah, I think you’re right. I’m really just looking for someone to make an argument to get the cooler/faster LR…and I’m a little freaked out the BMS will screw up when I’m coming up the mountain thinking I charged to 70% before I left, when in actuality I charged to 50% and I don’t have enough...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Thanks for your thoughts. 60-70mph most of the way, 45mph last ~10mi, anticipate some stop and go, so shouldn’t be terrible for EV range based on avg speed (~60mph). There is also a supercharger 10-15mi from my house on the way, but def don’t want to rely on that. I think the LFP SR+ is the...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

Yeah, I kindof like getting in the weeds with tech and have a tendency to over think, so I appreciate you knocking sense. I’ve also never owned an EV, so it all makes me a little nervous. While I agree on its face it seems either vehicle should have plenty of range (SR+ charged to 100% or 273mi...

SR+ vs LR for long commuting

New member here and new to EVs. I’ve currently got a M3 SR+ on order for deliver Nov 18-Dec 31. I’m on the market because I took a new job that will require regular commuting (12 x mo) about 70mi each way and I want a comfortable EV with adequate range and good driver-aid software - the M3...
  33. T

Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

Yes! I haven’t read anyone talking about this. CATL (largest vehicle battery manufacturer in the word, also based in China) makes m3 LFP battery, so m3 battery won’t qualify for the battery component portion, though I think it will still qualify for the $3750 assembled in NA requirement.
  34. T

Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

If it passes, I think the biggest question for current prospective buyers is how and when it will be determined if a vehicle meets the battery assembly and raw materials requirements. In the bill it says they will use VIN numbers and confirmation from manufacturers, but that leaves a ton to be...

Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

Then, while driving my M3 SR+ with FSD that kept trying to hit a stopped ambulance, I read this, and learn that I could have bought a bolt EUV that would nearly drive me to work for half the price of my M3 SR+ ($27,500 after qualifying under the new law)…then I wake up from my dream and realize...

Tesla $7500 Tax Credit Coming Back?

My read of the bill is you need a “written sales order,” or a “binding” sales agreement signed before the president signs the bill into law and the vehicle must be delivered by Dec 31, 2023 in order to be grandfathered into the old law. In other words, find an I5/EV6 that isn’t already claimed...
