Questions about renting a Tesla for a Road Trip

So I'm back from my trip. My drive was about 380 miles, pretty much all of it highway driving. When I went to go pick up the car, I asked if it had a J-1772 adapter. The Hertz guy wasn't sure what that was, and we checked the trunk where it did have the charging kit for using a 220 volt RV...

Questions about renting a Tesla for a Road Trip

Yeah, I've been getting those emails, too. I had to move my trip from this week to next week, and got a call from the local Hertz office, apparently the Model Y I had reserved isn't available, so I'll be subbing a Model 3 SR instead. I was able to ask the Hertz rep about state of charge...

Does anyone else here watch "For All Mankind"?

Just wondering if anyone else here has watched the Apple TV series "For All Mankind"? A lot of the characters on the show are based on real people, with one of the characters on the show very clearly being modeled on Elon Musk. The 4th season just wrapped up, and it looks like the show is...

Anyone planning to color wrap your CT?

Just got done watching your videos on Youtube. Those wrapped Cybertrucks look fantastic. I'm definitely partial to the matte black, but the one in white with the red brake calipers looks incredible.

Questions about renting a Tesla for a Road Trip

Thanks for pointing me to your writeup. The most important thing you mentioned was the fact the car didn't come with a J1772 adapter, so I'll be sure to pack mine, since I'm planning to stay at a hotel that has L2 Chargepoint chargers. I am a bit unsure what to expect, I spoke with my boss...

Cybertruck Foundation Series Reservation Holder Reveals Cost Of $120,000: Only 1,000 Will Ever Be Made

I think the people who will buy that will mostly be guys who are looking to tow trailers.

    500 mile range? LOL

Pure speculation on my part, but I think the reason why Tesla wasn't able to come to market with a truck that gets better range than Rivian or Ford is because they're internally struggling to implement manufacturing of their dry cell batteries.

    500 mile range? LOL

I always thought they looked like the eyes on an anime character.

Cool, thanks. With the basic data package that comes with it, I'll still be able to route plan, correct?

Questions about renting a Tesla for a Road Trip

So I have an upcoming business trip, and I can either drive my car or rent one. I've made a reservation for a Model Y via Hertz, but have some questions. I currently own a Model 3 LR edition, but have opted to rent a car. I have made this particular drive once already in my car, but I have...

    EPA and "rolling coal"

I've had a couple of trucks roll coal on me, but generally it's pretty easy to speed up and leave them in the dust. Driving a Tesla has come with kind of a weird unintended effect where some people act like a douche bag towards you simply for the car you drive. I even had one road-raging...

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

My understanding is the lithium iron phosphate batteries are quite robust, and suffer much less degradation over time. They're also cheaper. The only downsides are that they aren't as energy dense as other chemistries, and end up being heavier. For a short or medium range EV, they'd probably be...

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

Ah. I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

Tesla isn't in the business of doing short range cars, though. Their shortest range vehicle is the Standard Range model Y, which has a range of 260 miles, that's a number that's pretty close to @gtae07 's number of 250 miles for a viable EV that people would want to buy. A Tesla Hot Hatch with...

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

I don't know. I think the market has spoken on the viability of short-range EVs, which is to say, no one really wants them. If they did, we'd all be making posts on the Coda/Wheego forum instead of the Tesla forum. I think that's spot on. At the end of the day, almost no one will want to buy a...

    Phone key doesn't always connect

I've had this issue with my Samsung S22+ as well. One thing that I've found sometimes fixes the issue is if I have media actively playing in either my browser or an app like the Youtube app. Closing the app will sometimes fix this issue.

Phantom Phone Connection in the Tesla User Interface

I just hit the icon with 3 vertical bars that lets me scroll through all of the apps that are open on my phone, and then just swipe up to dismiss the app. If that doesn't work, you could try using the Force Quit option that you can find under the Settings.

Finland Breaks Record for Biggest Tesla Light Show

I'd like to know how they did the coordination for the lights, it was just astounding. Also, I'd like to know how to do a light show with music that I can pick, instead of the couple of choices in the Tesla interface for New Years and Christmas.

Finland Breaks Record for Biggest Tesla Light Show

Teslarati posted a story this morning detailing how a group in Finland organized the biggest Tesla light show, with 687 cars. The video is really impressive, and warrants being watched on a big screen with the sound up: Here's a link to the Teslarati article as well...

How to set up phone access on my wife's phone?

Hey everyone! I've got a super basic question. Can anyone point me to a place where I can set up my wife's phone so she can access my Tesla? I'm sure it's probably super straightforward, and if there's a tutorial in the archives here, or at another website, I'd appreciate getting pointed in the...

Anti-EV comments heard on my roadtrip so far

Taking a long trip to a National Park with no EV charging infrastructure.

Hey, thanks! We had a previous campout that was in a very rural place (no infrastructure at all!) so I took our gas vehicle for that trip. I figured this trip would be a good way to get my feet wet in taking a long-ish range trip. I did spend a bunch of time planning out the route, and in...

Anti-EV comments heard on my roadtrip so far

I haven't suffered a lot of anti-ev activity. Probably the worst things are that I've had large pickups try to roll coal on me a few times, and guys in sportscars try to beat me out of a red light. I get some grief from a redneck friend who's a complete petrolhead, but that's about it.

Taking a long trip to a National Park with no EV charging infrastructure.

So from the conversation I had with the proprietor of the shop, he told me that the building the shop occupied was owned by the government, but he was independent, so since the building itself is owned by the government, he can't make any changes to the building because it's considered a...

Taking a long trip to a National Park with no EV charging infrastructure.

So, my kid's Scout Troop had a weekend camping trip planned at a National Park this past weekend, and this was the first long trip I've taken. From my door to the campsite was about 175 miles, and I was kind of nervous about taking a trip to somewhere that didn't have charging infrastructure...

Question for Electrical Expert: I can hear a low frequency humming when my Tesla is charging

So I went out to my breaker box (it's exterior) and felt the breaker, and it wasn't hot. Weird thing was, I couldn't hear the humming sound when standing there. I've also since dropped the amps from 48 to 30 and the humming sound is eliminated (or at least has been reduced enough that it...

Question for Electrical Expert: I can hear a low frequency humming when my Tesla is charging

Ok, so the last few nights I've been woken up in the early morning by a very low frequency humming sound. After the first couple of times, I thought "maybe it has something to do with when my Tesla is charging." So I pulled up the app, and verified that the car was charging. I then stopped...

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

You're probably right. I think that a Tesla hot hatch aimed at competing with the performance model of the Honda Civic Type R would awesome, but a more moderate version would probably sell well, too. The smart thing would probably be to offer two or three variants like they do with the Model 3...

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

A Tesla Hot Hatchback would be so much fun. Something that would compete with the Civic Type R in performance and price. Here are some specs that I think would be doable from an engineering standpoint, and would also make a compelling Tesla hatchback: Curb weight: 3200 lbs. Range: 300 miles...

Phantom Phone Connection in the Tesla User Interface

Ok, so here's a weird, but intermittent issue, that I've run into with my Tesla. The car will occasionally act like it's connected to a phone call, but the number that it shows as being connected to is my phone number. It won't allow me to hang up by tapping the "hang up" button, nor will it...

    Chirping/tweeting From Front Passenger Dash

So I did the test where I wrapped my fingers around the front edge of the headliner, and you were absolutely right. There's a gap between the headliner and window, and near the center, it's big enough that I can easily slide a couple of fingers into the gap. Have taken it back to the Tesla show...

    Chirping/tweeting From Front Passenger Dash

Yep. It's definitely the passenger-side sun visor. Specifically the little bar that clips against the plastic bit. I've been driving with the visor against the passenger side window for a couple of days and haven't had any chirps. Thinking I may just tie a piece of fabric around the visor bar...
