80$ USD isn't cheap for an automotive 12v AGM battery? damn... Volkswagen and BMW have been charging 10x that for batteries for years. Better yet, look up what a 2020 BMW M4 battery costs (1/4 the cost of a used model3 traction pack).
Wonder how close they are to @titaniumdave’s creation and hardwork(R&D), then marked up beyond his pricing?
I will never understand the fascination with that shop and I suspect many others will find things out in coming years that too may change their opinion.
why is that?
Rivian would benefit from going through the process to use the supercharger network... considering it's not so much a truck as an adventure mobile.
//eyeroll//
Yeah... that makes total sense.
Let me give up paradise for some random place with a cooler climate so we can drive a car that's not supported and actively disassembled by it's manufacturer. Solid financial tip!
You mean they're not going to offer a new model at a ~10-15k discount and pay full private party, just to make the problem go away? //sarcasm wrapped in truth// :)
The absolute best advice I can give anyone that lives in a warm climate, is to get a hybrid heat pump hot water heater and leave it ducted to inside the garage. Not only does it barely use electricity, the byproduct is a cold garage.
While I agree this needs to happen and am thankful that they've come up with a solution, the economics of scale have certainly bit us HARD on this one. 1800USD is quite a chunk of change considering the cost of similar DCDC converters around the same size.
There’s a thread about the firmware needing to be updated on most Gen3 devices to fix this issue, even a support number that directs you to the correct group that is aware of the issue.
I’d be willing to bet it likely went for asking, if not more. Especially after the Jay Leno episode.
All decent examples are commanding decent money and selling within a few days.
Heck, even not perfect examples are selling for insane money: bring a trailer blue 1.5 @ over 50k$ usd.
Because it is. You won't want LTE on your MCU1, if you still have the MCU1. There are many threads about the issues people have experienced with it.
Reasonable prices and restricted parts don't often cross paths. 240$ seems cheap if you've already got the card.
I wish it was that simple. Some of us require above and beyond their largest residential system and as such have had to order two different ones.
Summer, modest home, 150kWh of EV usage.... ~200kWh of daily usage
The hilarious part is... model S owners get sad, while roadster owners have to live with anything we need going through an email address that kinda sorta might return some sort of a reply....... sometimes.
Or countries where the oil crisis has impacted the region.
Or countries where taxes on EV are non existent whereas taxes on petrol/diesel vehicles are charged by the engine size.
I would disagree that 20kWh of battery cycling is going to add 30k miles a year. We're not talking about 300A+ draws here. We're talking about sub 48A (at the most, being that GEN3 is 60A breaker) backfeeding into the home.
Japan and Europe have chademo V2G/V2H, it's only a matter of time...
Thank goodness for the CAN Sr and the UMC 1 @40a or the GEN3 @ 48a.
Oh...and air conditioned garages, by far those are the best out of all of the above.
Why anyone sells power back to the grid at a reduced rate and drives an EV is beyond me.
Order enough PV/RE and storage to suit your needs 100%, in winter. It's simple. Using a spare model 3/y to supply power to my roadster at night after the powerwalls are all drained isn't an issue to me with...
