It is a mystery for MS owners that have less than 50k miles, mostly charged at home 20-80%, and supercharged 1-2 times. Then they get the BMS_u029 error after the battery warranty expires. Then they're blamed for not using their vehicle enough and causing moisture to build up. LOL at the clown...

Considering you have FSD ($15k option) it's a fair price, imo. If someone wants FSD then it's a pretty good deal. There are 2017-2019 100Ds without FSD for < $50k. For reference .. 2019 MS 100D with 46k miles and enhanced autopilot ($6k option). Asking $48k

Then there's the option to buy a 2018 MS 100D with less than 50k miles for less than $50k, AND ... it's still under warranty for 3 more yrs (vs 4 more yrs for a pack replacement). If I was scanning my pack and it looks like it's going bad (but no BMS error yet), I'd sell it and buy a 2018.

I got BMS_u029 a few months after Dec 2021, when my warranty expired. Long story short, I eventually sold it to a car company as-is.

I recommend folks with 2013-15 (out of warranty) vehicles to turn off their wifi. There is no / minimal value you're getting from the OTA updates so at least eliminate one factor that can trigger the BMS_u029.

I took it to a shop that (I think they used the tesla toolbox?) determined that my battery didn't need to be replaced. They fixed the error code and my car works like before. But I have turned off the wifi so I don't get anymore OTA updates.

It has happened to so many out of warranty batteries .. it makes you wonder.

Yes, this is totally sus. Tesla is not the only electric car company with battery packs that are 8+ years old -- not to mention hybrids with much older battery packs. But Teslas are the only vehicles that are crippled unless the battery pack is replaced for $15k - $20k ... and these issues...

My prior service rep knew about this so they just copy-pasted the prior response, even if it doesn't really answer the question. And after working with another SC, I found that the answer is not correct since I had the option to select a new or remanuf pack.

Not all service centers are created equal. Some are downright horrible and unreliable. Contact another service center to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Maybe they can do remote diagnostics? If you're in NM then you'll have to go out of state, unfortunately.

None of the codes that you showed indicate that it's the battery or DU. Hopefully it's the battery and they install a new pack.

It's pretty random. Also check out "BMS_u029" which is the error code associated with the "Maximum battery charge level reduced" message. But it has happened to a lot of people 1) after the battery warranty expired (2013s and some 2014s), and 2) after an OTA update.
