Drive battery health test in Service mode.

100% full health battery as measured by Tesla using their Service Mode ie no measured degradation. Ok see this cover shot of the video I posted earlier in this thread where the gentleman had a successful health test result here in Australia for a Model 3P that came from Fremont USA with NCA...

Drive battery health test in Service mode.

I did managed to do a successful reference health test as seen here: Now the lesson I learnt compared to my previous try with my Model Y RWD was not to be impatient with the test. Just give it some time especially once it's charged to 100%. Hope it helps others.

M3 Aussie Specific Build Info and Analysis

Now there has been some articles written about LG going from a NMC to NCMA chemistry to be used in Teslas floating about for some time from what I have seen but what evidence are you using to make such a committed statement? For example if we look at data as presented here...

    Model Y parcel shelf.

Yes it came with my new MY LR that I ordered in April when the LR became available. I can see how this is disappointing for you and I also feel bad for the people that bought the MY RWD off me that could have got a new MY RWD for the same price because of the price drop just after they bought...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Would the software be the same? When I last drove our MY RWD on TACC which would have been before April this year from memory. After ordering the MY LR in April we stopped using the RWD as much as possible to stop putting any extra kms on it for resale value purposes and we had another car we...

    Model Y parcel shelf.

NP. Thanks for the appreciation.:) As I said previously here in another thread where I wrote: " 5. A parcel shelf, I think Tesla calls it, is now included which I think seems to make the interior quieter especially over rougher roads from my initial impression. Extra sound deadening is...

    Model Y parcel shelf.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I have some photos I took of the new parcel shelf on my new Model Y LR. I will just drop some of them in quickly and I can give some answers or even a review from my experiences tomorrow if required. Showing underneath: Hatch closed looking over back...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Ok I have a some time here at the moment to reply to you.:) A kW is a kW but we need to put into place where the measurements are coming from in your query. In the case of a ICE vehicle we tend to measure the output at the crankshaft so after the inefficiencies of the ICE which can be expressed...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Thought some may be interested in a acceleration run we did with the MY LR. Note the Creep mode showing (top left) which my eldest son prefers who was driving while I took the screenshot. I myself prefer Hold mode (one pedal). Also note max discharge bottom right 357 kW compared to 287 kW...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

G'day paulp. Sorry I didn't back to you earlier. Been busy at work especially after sacking myself to go down to pick up the new car.😁 You mean do I now get HW4 on my new Model Y LR? No I think it's same hardware as the previous MY RWD. But I will check more carefully with images I have seen in...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Ok, like I said before in this thread I had sold my Model Y RWD and was waiting for a Model Y LR I had ordered in April ( same day after orders opened for LR here in Australia). Picked up the Model Y LR yesterday from Chatswood and drove it back to the Mid North Coast on the same day. My...

Drive battery health test in Service mode.

I guess you are writing to me? If yes, you might have heard of reference points ie you need to have something to reference to for future data. We engineers do it all the time as part of testing. All it can do! Generalised statement without fact IMO. See my first answer to you above to help...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Yea like cafz says it is usually only taking just enough power out of the battery to overcome the resistance of the motor to rotate when no power is supplied. All the permanent magnet motors I deal with and can get to actually turn the Rotor with my own hands or with tools, have a noticeable...
  14. T

Drive battery health test in Service mode.

Yea the same with me where it did a full discharge/charge cycle and no test result. I hope we can get to the bottom of this and find a reliable way of doing this test and maybe also help others if they require it.🙂
  15. T

Drive battery health test in Service mode.

I actually said: See that part about "or for that matter any type chemistry" ie meaning has anyone in Australia a gotten a successful health test of any chemistry yet? Ok I said in my post: Now did I interpret any of those instruction wrong? I don't think so and if you watch that video I...
  16. T

Drive battery health test in Service mode.

Ok after a search that I just did I found this video that gave a successful health test result here in Australia for a Model 3P that came from Fremont USA with NCA battery chemistry. He had 9% degradation after 3 1/2 years or 91% battery health. So Australia's service mode at least works...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

No problem. I was taught at a young age, by someone that had my deepest respect, to accept these moments in our lives where things don't work out the way we planned through mistakes, tragedy, unforeseen circumstances, accidents etc to try and look at it in a positive way because it is...

Drive battery health test in Service mode.

Just want to go through my experience running the drive battery health test in Service Mode. Now this experience I went though was with my MY RWD with LFP chemistry battery in mid June just before I sold it to make room for the MY LR I had ordered that is supposedly coming soon. We emptied the...

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

LOL. Wow, talk about assuming how someone else thinks. Some may call that arrogance but hey I will try to be nice. 😉😁 But in any case you wrong ie I do NOT "really struggle with the tesla term full self driving” and if you had understood what I had written about using basic terms to describe...
  20. T

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Actually I will try to forget I ever read this misinformation to put it a nicely as I can. The part of an electric motor called the Rotor (the part that revolves) is physically attached to the wheels via the reduction gears, differential, drive shafts (and joints) and wheel hubs assemblies...
  21. T

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Of course. Ok, but you stated previously: I guess you must have forgotten this Landcruiser 200 ICE vehicle or has it been modified to be powered by something other than a ICE when you stated this previously? "Muscle memory" I have found plays a big part in this behaviour I think. Or IMO to...
  22. T

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Actually from memory Mercedes Benz cars used to have their indicators on the right also for our market. Ok that's good for yourselves but speaking for myself only I drive other cars, utes, trucks that are not Euro or even Teslas etc regularly where it is NOT so easy IMO. Please see my above...
  23. T

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Ok, let's put this statement you made in another way. "The car WILL go into reverse below a certain speed, which is quite low, while travelling in a forward direction or even stopped. Someone on this forum has courageously (IMO) admitted to accidently hitting the wrong stalk thinking it was the...
  24. T

Model Y review from an mechanical and software engineer's standpoint.

Yea I prefer sports steering myself at speed ie highway cruising. Around town I tend to use comfort steering now mainly to avoid all the potholes on some of our roads around here after all the rain. Ok I have learnt to turn off at the start of each drive the setting for this in the menu on the...

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

LOL . I think the Professor is saying there is just not one component of the heat pump or what he even calls one source of heat energy to make up "the heat pump" and so calls it a "Heat Pump System". Those sources of heat include what he calls "Heat Source 3. The Radiator" and goes on to...
  26. T

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

Yes and like the Professor explains the condenser on Tesla for cooling is outside the cabin on the Super Manifold and is liquid cooled instead of a fan so the heat can be stored in the coolant and used for say heating the battery or for getting rid of excess heat through the radiator. Is...
  27. T

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

Sorry I did not get back to you earlier as I have been busy at work. I submit you are getting confused with your analogy you express here IMO. Yes Tesla put in a separate cabin condenser ,actually two (driver side and front passenger side) hence our dual zone climate control, solely for the...
  28. T

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

Ok Sir I did not search outside the Australian forum where I posted this thread and actually I never do.
  29. T

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

Where in that video I attached from the Professor presenting it does he mention a reversing valve is present on the newer Tesla vehicles that "reverses" the direction of the flow of refrigerant, which changes the direction of heat transfer that is used on Reverse Cycle AC as a heat pump? Now he...
  30. T

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

I am adding this video from the same University and the same Professor to help explain the Octovalve modes of operations better IMO which can be seen in Service Mode on the car's display.
  31. T

Tesla's Heat Pump System and Octovalve

Now I see the words Heat pump, as though there is a component called a Heat Pump in our Teslas, get thrown around a lot on this forum but according to this video there is no Heat Pump per se in our cars but a Heat Pump System that has from my quick count on some cars (depend on RWD or AWD) 22...

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

LOL the one person here that supposedly lives "in my head" finds it's very interesting that I have no trouble plugging in CHAdeMO. Please, please son keep bringing "in my head" those laughs you provide me.🤣
  33. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

I guess that would be your opinion when in fact I have found it very easy to use from a users standpoint and from a designer's standpoint looking at failure modes, safety, complexity of the components needed for NACS etc when comparing NACS to CHAdeMO I would take what you call "is incredibly...
  34. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

I guess that port on my Mitsubishi PHEV that I can plug in easily gives me no opinion that's worth providing.
  35. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

If Tesla was doing this as "a deliberate choice to enable a more ergonomic plug form factor" I would submit there was a already an existing system that provides that function without the failure mode complexity of AC/DC pin sharing using CHAdeMO for fast charging etc, ie keep AC/DC totally...
  36. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Ok I maybe should have explained it better. The onboard charger will be hit with AC or DC. But like Tesla says "With shared pins, the system must be designed to avoid connecting the battery pack to an AC electrical grid, which may result in high severity failures of grid and battery...
  37. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

From an engineering standpoint from Tesla's released NACS documents that hit me straight away looking at its system or block diagram was its what Tesla call AC/DC pin sharing and how the onboard charger is directly connected to what can be a DC input as well as AC. Now reading on Tesla...
  38. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Actually I think as ISO 15118-20 has already be released is there any reason why the 2025 date mentioned in your post that I may have missed...
  39. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

If we can believe this article Tesla maybe finally coming onboard BUT Elon is still being a vocal critic. https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/tesla-confirms-bidirectional-charging-coming-by-2025-but-musk-says-its-inconvenient Yea "extremely inconvenient" to his Powerwall sales IMO.
  40. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Actually as an engineer myself I am more inclined to hear the SAE or the Society of Automotive Engineers thoughts on the whole proposal as they had input into the initial CCS process. This article from someone there at the time is worth a read I think. Explains some of the thoughts and maybe...
  41. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

I think on Twitter they have have "Rate Your Charge" that may have caused some customer feedback that pushed Ford and GM to instigate this response. I think these people started "Rate Your Charge" and wow doesn't he get active in pushing all companies to get onboard in this video: No sign I...
  42. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Yes agree we were lucky to have CCS2 win here. Also agree CHAdeMO should be phased out here as well. It's time IMHO for Nissan and Mitsubishi etc to let it go at least in their exports to other countries.
  43. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Yea it really could turn into a crap fight. Another solution for older EVs are a special adapter built. But Tesla call it a standard yes? ;)
  44. T

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

So we have Ford and now GM deciding to get onboard with Tesla to have access to their Supercharger network in probably a shorter timespan than maybe Tesla intended to open up their full network to others certainly has caused a stir in Nth America it would seem...
  45. T

    Evie EV charging networks

Yes you did say “obviously vandalised” meaning visible damage. But for instance a frozen or dark display while it may not have what you call “obviously vandalised” as in "smashed" if it has been hit hard enough to cause component damage behind the display is it still not vandalism that may cause...

    Evie EV charging networks

I would submit that if you had seen and heard the evidence the technician provided and had knowledge of what I will call the "social phenomena" of the local area where I live and regularly work throughout you may have a differing opinion. I already had suspicions of why for instance the Taree...
  47. T

    Evie EV charging networks

Pretty sure I explained what the technician thought was mainly causing these chargers to go offline at least in this area where he serviced ie vandalism.
  48. T

    Evie EV charging networks

Yes noticed that. At the time I was talking to the Tritium technician he talked about how he had to pull out one of the cabinets completely at Taree.
  49. T

    Evie EV charging networks

Yes. He blamed vandalism as the main culprit and getting access to parts to fix the main reason for prolonged downtime. But those symptoms may just for around this area ie Mid North Coast. Plenty of people around here see EVs as a threat.
  50. T

    Evie EV charging networks

Had a good conversion with a technician at the NRMA charger at Nabiac that he was fixing. Told me he comes up from Sydney to work on the local chargers in the area including the Evie chargers at Taree. He worked for Tritium he said.
