    Software updates

Why would you assume it’s only for that reason when there are likely to be a whole bunch of additional visualisations we haven’t even seen yet? So yes, I am for real.
  2. B

    Software updates

It really isn’t. It’s already been observed that the FSD visualisations are laggy on the older Atom chip, mostly down to its underpowered GPU. With the changes to sentry mode etc the fact the Atom lacks acceleration for h.265 decoding is also likely a reason for creating a fork between versions
  3. B

    Software updates

Older cars will still get software updates including some new features as older model S/X do today, just not all of them. It appears the new UI can’t/wont run on the Intel Atom processor found in early model 3/Y which is why they don’t get it. So older cars will still probably get most new...

    Changes to Supercharging?

🤷🏻 the ones near me are free parking, or at least a free period if you get the ticket validated. Sure it’d be nice if it was all free, but that’s the UK for you.

    Changes to Supercharging?

Well there we go, changes are live. UK subscription price dropped to £8.99 per month for non-Tesla users, with same rates per kWh as Tesla owners and crucially price per kWh looks to have dropped to 35p off peak near me. 🎉

    Blue Dot

I’d guess it was the update that gave you adaptive high beams. Blue dot always there when a new feature drops with a setting that you have an option to activate. Check the release notes for more info.

    So… Highland is out…

    OK, Nostradamus.
  8. B

    So… Highland is out…

Right, so he was wrong about the software but comparing that announcement to this one about a physical product isn’t apples to apples. What he said at the time was:
  9. B

    So… Highland is out…

If you define that as the total number of cars produced with camera and compute hardware capable of running FSD, then technically there were. Which is what that previous statement was actually about if you read beyond the headline.
  10. B

    So… Highland is out…

    or maybe before…

New MY Colours from today. Cherry Red and Quick Silver

Huh. You’re correct, I had totally missed that update. So Shanghai paint shop has had an upgrade then. I am fake news.
  12. B

New MY Colours from today. Cherry Red and Quick Silver

Interesting. This tells us that Berlin (the only paint shop equipped to spray those colours) has finally started producing RHD vehicles and shipping to UK & Ireland. That indirectly also goes part way to explaining some of the production cut and reduction in number of shifts at Shanghai as...

    So… Highland is out…

In all fairness, there was a pandemic and related everything shortages with supply chain screw ups that kinda got in the way of product development for a while. Of the late products impacted, namely the Cybertruck, Semi, & Roadster, there’s only one left to deliver from that list with the other...
  14. B

    So… Highland is out…

After. Roadster launch event pencilled for end of this year. On past history of scheduled launch events I’d guess that means a November event and production in early 2025.
  15. B

    So… Highland is out…

Correct about not using 4680, but Tesla don't have enough LFP supply for a smaller car that will be at multi million unit volume and are just starting construction on their first US based joint venture with CATL to alleviate some of that problem and prepare for the future. The limiting factor...

    [UK] 2024.8.x

I had a totally different experience to what I expected based on what everyone else has been saying with my first drive on the Adaptive Highbeams. I live in town and popped out to Tesco about 20:30 this evening. My route is a few dimly lit side roads, then a couple of short stretches on dual...
  17. B

    So… Highland is out…

No point in prioritising it without the necessary battery supply. The roadmap is driven by cells and there ain’t enough available for volume production of M2 yet.
  18. B

    So… Highland is out…

Depends - Giga Austin is ramping hard and despite the headlines the USA seems finally to be reaching a decent EV inflection point. I’m somewhat surprised Shanghai didn’t suffer sooner with Berlin stealing most of its export volume to Europe except for RHD. China volumes were stronger than RoW...
  19. B

    So… Highland is out…

The botched and much delayed Model X refresh proved that to be very true. One at a time minimises the damage from throughput challenges as you ramp the new stuff even if it does create a bit of an Osbourne effect for the sister car on the same platform. Arguably they’d be better differentiating...

    Dashcam and collision warning

It’s always recording, but it overwrites recorded footage after about an hour so you need to press save. It occasionally has a glitch and may miss a few seconds of a video here and there, but other than that it’s pretty reliable if you hit save to keep the last few minutes of footage.
  21. B

    Dashcam and collision warning

Unfortunately auto doesn’t = save clips of what you want it to. Always hit the save button, or honk if you’ve activated the save on honk setting, or pull the USB drive and manually grab the clip before it gets overwritten.
  22. B

    So… Highland is out…

Yup. Slow ramp of new 3 in Fremont and the unplanned shutdown of Berlin due to arson attack account for nearly all of the production slump and a good chunk of the delivery miss, which was further contributed to by ships from Shanghai going the long way round Africa causing further delivery...

    What’s your job?

I hear hats are in huge demand right now, so probably quite lucrative.
  24. B

    What’s your job?

Hard question, even I don’t know what I do sometimes. I currently manage a team of awesome people, all smarter than me, in customer success/professional services for a global software company. Our team goal is to help our most massive customers (Fortune 500 territory) to be better at what they...

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

A forum full of £50k car owners might somewhat disagree with that statement. 😉
  27. B

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

Yes. Because the current government is toast and the incoming one, in the absence of a miracle to overcome the de-facto two party system or sudden reinvigoration of Tory support, has plans to decarbonise the grid by 2030. Something which we’re already well on the way to doing, making it more...
  28. B

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

No, our problem is the abundance of NIMBYs preventing us from catching it.
  29. B

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

I’m not sure diesel was ever really seen as the answer, they were seen as a lower carbon impact vehicle at the time, mainly because of lies and cheating and with the added bonus of being a bit cheaper to run which was the main driver of popularity. Even when that boom was happening you had the...
  30. B

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

Yup, Norway with their Hydro and wealth fund, Denmark with their wind, Iceland with its geothermal, France with their abundant Nuclear are all way better prepared on energy security that is or Germany.
  31. B

Tesla reduces output of Y and 3 in Shanghai

That is pretty darn unrealistic. A small decrease in growth rate of EVs doesn’t change the fact ICE vehicle sales peaked in 2019 and continue to decline at a steady pace, not even managing a post pandemic bounce, they just keep declining YoY. The temporary energy market problem in Europe...

Anybody managed to get a Model Y loaner?

Nope. Loaners in my experience tend to be the dregs of the fleet, I’ve only ever had a battered old Model S P85D or a Model 3 Long Range.

Improvement ideas for Superchargers - and who to contact?

Tesla is rolling out WiFi to superchargers - though it doesn’t seem to be a huge priority here yet. I think I’ve experienced it at maybe two supercharger sites in the UK to date and spotted a Starlink squarial antenna things on a pole by the cabinets at one of them (I forget which supercharger...

    Regen Braking

Maybe… I haven’t experienced it enough to say conclusively, but a few times last week I did notice unexpected needing to use the brake pedal more than normal, to the point I checked the screen to see if my charge level was too high for it to be working or regen was limited (it wasn’t) - but...

Model X 2020 and enhanced autopilot

I had enhanced autopilot on my old 3 and didn’t bother with it when I upgraded to a Y, I honestly don’t miss it and wouldn’t bother again. For lane changes because you need to confirm the proposed lane change each time because of European regs etc I didn’t actually find it any less hassle than...

Charging solely using the Supercharger network

You’ll be fine. I’ve done exactly this for the last 4 years and haven’t had any noticeable degradation, when comparing with a colleagues identical vehicle of the same age who charges exclusively at home there’s literally no difference. I also ignore best practice and often charge to ~95% at...

    2023 Model Y - some suggestions

    1. Not possible, mirror isn’t motorised. 2. They do, but if both drivers are in the car and using phone key it may not correctly detect which one is driving. 3. They’re working on it. 4. Bad for aero and therefore range, they also justified getting rid of it on Model S by citing data saying it...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Ludicrous Spotted

Honestly, I curbed the heck out of my M3LR 18”s but haven’t so much as dinged the staggered 21”s on the MYP I upgraded to, so it isn’t necessarily worse.

    2024 Insurance Costs

Ooof. The seeming compete randomness to the quotes despite nothing at all changing annoys the heck out of me.
  42. B

    2024 Insurance Costs

Renewal quote just dropped. Churchill who were cheapest last year wanted £1850 to renew, basically an 80% increase, like similar stories Admiral were cheapest this time around, they actually were slightly cheaper than last years policy with Churchill so I’ll be with going with them for the year...

Tesla Model Y - have I made a huge mistake

Tyre repair kits? Never had one supplied with a vehicle. Warning triangles, first aid kits etc? Yes. Because they are legally required items in some territories which is why they’re supplied with the vehicle. Mats if supplied stay. My point was, shipping unnecessary electronic waste when I...

    Used Vehicle delivery

Definitely not optimal, and they should be doing better.
  45. B

    Used Vehicle delivery

I’d rather they didn’t do that personally, plus issues with new cars tend to be a minor scratch or wheel scuff or similar. For used cars they’ll often have bigger jobs to do like the recommended maintenance the last owner may not have like brake service, replacing battery coolant etc. along...

Tesla Model Y - have I made a huge mistake

Agreed. I don’t need duplicates of things because they ship with the car each time. Also never even considered calling Tesla service for a flat tyre, maybe that’s just me. Sucks for OP but it seems the only complaint is flat tyre and harsh ride, one is a fixable problem the other you get used...

    Powerwall 3

Right, but the majority of people will be installing it with the capability of exporting energy, for load shifting, taking advantage of overnight charging at cheap rates and re-exporting at peak times in combination with any solar. I’m pretty sure that any home battery connected via AC needs...

    Powerwall 3

It depends entirely on where you are and the grid connection you have, but you need to get approval to go beyond the max exports stated above. Previously discussed here and elsewhere on the forum and related got G59/G99 network generator rules in the U.K.
