Phone as a key stopped working suddenly (April 2023)

I always carry the Tesla key card with me. It’s in my wallet. However, I always use the phone as a key. Anyways, the issue self resolved. Next day when I got in the car it started normally for no apparent reason. So I don’t know what happened or why.

Phone as a key stopped working suddenly (April 2023)

I will try deleting the app and reinstalling once I get home. I’m on a trip far from home and this suddenly started happening so I have to start the car from the app command.

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Will this 3rd party retrofit on the Model 3 cause any issues charging? Feedback from long time owners of the retrofit on Model 3 will be good to read. I’m interested if it may cause issues with charging speed or reliability at superchargers.

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

I sent a service request asking about the CCS retrofit for Model 3 and this was their response. Not very promising. After this, I’m just going to stop asking or investigating about it:

Is using NFC tags on your Tesla safe?

I have seen some YouTube videos that explain how to attach NFC tags to your Tesla to do things like opening the frunk or to unlock the vehicle. Basically, you scan the NFC tag using your phone and the phone will order the Tesla to perform the programmed action, such as unlocking the car. The...

I’m having the same concern as well. Did you ask a Service Center recently? There is a free 50kw charger near me that I can never use because it is CCS.

Can’t connect to my WiFi hotspot

I’m not interested in a smooth transition. In fact, I don’t want devices to switch bands. I prefer to manually control which band devices connect to. So devices that need lots of bandwidth I rather them stick to 5Ghz. When I had the same SSID I would have trouble streaming from my TV because...

Can’t connect to my WiFi hotspot

I specifically configured my router to have separate SSID names for the different channels it has. The 5Ghz SSID only uses 5Ghz. The 2.4Ghz SSID only uses 2.4Ghz. It also has a 6Ghz channel but the car won’t see that one. When downloading Tesla updates the car downloads much faster when I...

Can’t connect to my WiFi hotspot

That’s not really true. I have connected to my home’s router on the 5Ghz channel and the 2.4Ghz channel as they have two separate names and I can select them from the car. However, when I went to my iPhone and selected to maximize compatibility, the Tesla immediately connected to my hotspot...

Can’t connect to my WiFi hotspot

As the title says, I can’t connect my car to my iPhone’s WiFi hotspot. I’ve tried rebooting both the phone and the car to no avail. The car detects my phone but when I select it, it times out saying there’s no internet. However, my iPhone hotspot works fine with other devices. My car connects...

Wow! That’s heavy stuff. 😂 So what about L2 chargers that have the J1772 plug. What protocol do they use? I can use those chargers just fine with an adapter for my Model 3.

I’m confused. I’m confused. I thought that Tesla opened their NACS standard to everyone when they made the announcement. But it sounds like you’re saying they did not.

    Radio volume when opening door

So I guess the answer is no. I don’t normally have the radio super loud. Sometimes I listen to podcasts which are at normal volume, if I stop to pick up someone, when they open the door, the podcast becomes virtually inaudible, so I miss what they’re saying until the door is closed and I have to...

    Walmart Creating EV Charging Network

There should be a variety of options: free L2 charging while you shop, and fast charging for a fee per kw. L2 makes more sense if you arrive with relatively high state of charge and get enough juice so that you arrive home with the same or a bit more of charge than when you left home. However...

    Supercharger - Newark, CA - Gateway Boulevard (LIVE 12 Oct 2023, 22 V3 stalls)

Yes I understand the charging rate will be deeply cut when sharing the load. I just think it is a rare thing to happen. Many people arrive with 30% or 40% SOC. People arrive at different times as well so what are the chances of two cars arriving at the same time with the same or similar SOC and...

    Supercharger - Newark, CA - Gateway Boulevard (LIVE 12 Oct 2023, 22 V3 stalls)

Why couldn’t Tesla do a 350kw stall, with two cables like EA does, and share the power load when two cars are charging at the same time? I mean, the only time when a Tesla reaches a maximum load demand of 250kw is during the first couple of minutes assuming the battery is properly warmed and the...

Phone key in car - lock with key card

If I stand next to the car for a few seconds after I get out and close the door it will lock anyway even if I don’t walk away. Done it many times. I just have to time how many seconds it takes and test various scenarios to see if the timing varies.

Phone key in car - lock with key card

    Supercharger - Newark, CA - Gateway Boulevard (LIVE 12 Oct 2023, 22 V3 stalls)

The perfect configuration would be placing the stall in the center of the line dividing the parking spaces and then have two long cables for each stall. So no matter where the port is located or how you park (front first or rear first) everyone can charge and no spaces would be wasted. Although...

Understanding How Tesla's Shifting Works, Its Protective Protocols, and Neutral

This is why I said, it varies across vehicles. For instance, if it’s a hybrid, then driving downhill in N would cause the engine to shut off, but it is a bad idea because then you don’t get any regen braking. Although, a hybrid will always shut off the engine in a downhill whether you’re in D or N.

Phone key in car - lock with key card

When that happens to me and pull the door handle 9 out of 10 times it does not work. I have to wake up my phone before I can open the door. I think the walk away lock works based on time. It counts seconds after you step out of the vehicle and close all doors. If you notice, the screen turns...

  38. Mario Veras

Understanding How Tesla's Shifting Works, Its Protective Protocols, and Neutral

No. You can’t consume more fuel in N than when you’re idle. Same as if the vehicle was stopped. In gear, you feel the vehicle trying to slow itself down so you’re wasting more fuel that way because the transmission forces the RPM to go up a bit. So with the RPM going up, more gas is used. This...

Yes but with this new configuration it is possible to use all chargers whereas in the old config it is impossible to use all chargers. Though in reality car manufacturers should’ve given this some thought and not make different cars with charging ports in different places. They should’ve...

Understanding How Tesla's Shifting Works, Its Protective Protocols, and Neutral

In an ICE vehicle you can always go from N to D while going downhill without any consequences. In fact, it is a good thing to take a down hill and let the car go to N while letting the gravity drive you down if the ICE car has a manual transmission since that saves a bit of gas. However, on a...

    Shift from P to D

But when you don’t have your foot on the brake, you get an alert to put your foot on the brake. When it happens there is no alert whatsoever. It just doesn’t shift. I’m trying to get used to just double pressing the stalk just to be sure. Kinda like when you double click on the computer mouse.

    Shift from P to D

I find it strange that when I get in my Model 3 to drive I have to press down the right stalk twice to shift from P to D. This does not happen all the time but quite frequently. It can also happen if I need to shift to R from P. Again, not all the time, but seems more frequent when the car has...

With the initiative to install “Magic Docks” it makes sense to install them in this new configuration so that no matter how you drive into the space, forward or backward, you can use the charger. This will help with the cable reaching to the charging port on other vehicles without people having...

What is the dumbest thing your Tesla does?

Windows don’t have sensors to determine if something is preventing the windows from closing. The computer monitors the power draw from the window motor to detect if it’s stuck. No additional hardware required. All software. Now, this is on Teslas. Other manufacturers have actual sensors for that.
  48. Mario Veras

What is the dumbest thing your Tesla does?

Understood. But just like the door windows sense something is in the way preventing them from closing all the way, the motor actuating the charging port door could do something similar and retract if it can’t close all the way. Will that necessitate additional hardware?
  49. Mario Veras

What is the dumbest thing your Tesla does?

Yes that works fine, but there’s an easier method which I learned in this thread: unlock the Tesla first, then press and release the unlock button on the L2 charging cable which will cause the Tesla to automatically unlock the port internally. Once you hear the car has unlocked the port...

Sound system glitch for 22 refresh. No bass/immersion sound
