Tesla FSD Subscription Now $99/Month | Tesla Motors Club Podcast #62

My first experience with FSD was for 5 months last year with 11.4.x. It was fun to play with and show off, but it was frequently uncomfortable, stressful, embarrassing, and often dangerous. Once the novelty wore off and it became less stressful to drive manually, I unsubscribed and told myself...

    Wiper System V4

What's strange to me is that my auto wipers worked 99.999% perfectly from April 2023 when I took delivery to February 2024 - that's when the dry wipers and spastic behavior started and has remained since.

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

In the past week, the Wall Connector has returned to the Energy Star website. The certification date is now 9/18/2023 - previously, i twas March 2023. https://www.energystar.gov/productfinder/product/certified-evse-ac-output/details/2668006 And, the Mobile Connector has been added with a...

My on going battle regarding my purchase of a used 2013 Model S P85+

Over a quarter of all new Challengers have the V6 engine - not the V8. Nearly one-third of all new Mustangs have the least-powerful engine available. Over 80% of all new Camaros have the V6 engine - not the V8.

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

It is most efficient to charge as fast as possible to minimize the amount of time the vehicle stays awake.

My on going battle regarding my purchase of a used 2013 Model S P85+

I'm aware of states that have full-disclosure laws for real estate, but I've never heard of such for automobiles. As far as I know, the only thing a used car dealer has to disclose is the title status (e.g., clear, salvage, rebuilt).

    Supercharger - Sulphur Springs, TX

This city was near the center of totality and had a low chance for cloud cover during the 2024 solar eclipse. The line of Teslas waiting to charge amongst the tractors, trucks, farmers, and cowhands in this small, rural town seemed out of place. I'm glad I didn't need to charge because the wait...

    Wiper System V4

You said out loud what I have thought silently a few times. I have undoubtedly noticed more phantom wipes when there are lots of little clouds in the sky regardless of whether or not the sun is shining and whether or not the roads are wet. I have also noticed that my phantom wipes started with...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

Tesla's HomeLink module supports HomeLink 5, which includes door status, but the opener has to support it.

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

Being new to Tesla one year ago with my first EV purchase, I quickly realized not to get my hopes up about what is promised. After a 5-month experience with FSD 11.4.x last year, I was convinced it would be years, if not decades, before full self-driving was a reality. Then, I tried FSD...

    FSD Neural Network Training question

In addition to voluntary and forced disengagements, I believe interventions such as pressing the accelerator to the make the car go or go faster may also be flagged for Tesla to review. I used to think (or hope) that the cars learned individually - it would be very helpful if I could teach my...

OEM HEPA filters done after 1~ year?

After almost a year and 17,000 miles, I recently noticed the HVAC blower seemed to be running faster and louder than it has in the past on a mild day when the system was using 100% fresh air. I noticed that when I manually selected recirculated air, the blower speed and noise dropped...

    Supercharger - Terrell, TX

My plans have changed since I made that post. I will not be traveling on any major highways - if at all. The forecasts show at least clouds and probably rain in the path of totality in Texas. :( Too much effort and risk in traveling to see this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

According to PGE&G's website, which I linked in my previous reply, NO Tesla charging equipment qualifies. According to them, the equipment must be Energy Star certified. Currently, Tesla has no Energy Star certified charging equipment as also shown in the other link I posted.
  15. zroger73

Is there a reason to get the Tesla wall connector over other level 2 home chargers?

It appears the "charger" must be Energy Star certified. Tesla's Wall Connector became certified in March of 2023, but it has since lost that certification. I don't know if this is due to a software change or if the device never actually met Energy Star criteria and was certified in error or if...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Chill Mode requires more force against the accelerator pedal to achieve the same power output from the electric motors which causes the driver to convert more chemical energy to kinetic energy which also creates additional heat which puts an additional load on the vehicle's air conditioning...

Automatic settings on windshield wipe when on auto pilot (problem worse)

As of earlier this year or late last year, you can now turn the wipers off while using TACC, Autosteer, or Full Self-Driving, but you have to do so every time you engage one of those features since doing to sets the wipers to auto. As of FSD 12.3.2.1, my vehicle will now drive me to work with...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

My brother had a garage door sensor for his alarm that included myQ-like functionality. It used a 3-volt lithium battery that wasn't cheap and had to be replaced every several months.

    Supercharger - Bossier City, LA

That makes no sense to me. Why would Tesla host a competitor like ChargePoint? Isn't that like Walmart hosting a Dollar General Store? :)
  20. zroger73

    Supercharger - Bossier City, LA

Tesla pays for the electricity they use. ChargePoint pays for the electricity they use. Why wouldn't this require separate metering?
  21. zroger73

    Homelink retrofit install failure

myQ knows the door is open or closed using a tilt/motion sensor affixed to the door. Driver knows the door is open or closed based on visual clues. HomeLink only knows if the door is open or closed if the opener supports HomeLink version 5 (the module Tesla's use does).

    Don’t overlook Tesla Store Events

I attended one of these DIY service workshops after receiving an invitation a couple of months ago. I already knew how to do everything they demonstrated, but I figured I'd see what it was all about and it was nice to meet some other Tesla owners and exchange stories. We didn't receive any swag...

UPDATE: Spoke too soon. Three dry wipes this evening during a 10-mile drive on my way to and from dinner. :(

Automatic settings on windshield wipe when on auto pilot (problem worse)

Same. I drove around most of the morning and this afternoon using the FSD 12.3.2.1 free trial after updating from 2024.2.7 to 2024.3.6 and the wipers did not "dry wipe" a single time.
  25. zroger73

Automatic settings on windshield wipe when on auto pilot (problem worse)

Mine were "fixed" and the "best ever" from April 2023 to February 2024. I thought others (including my brother-in-law) who complained about their auto wiper operation were crazy - I couldn't relate since mine worked almost perfectly...until 2024.2.2.1 ruined them. I hoped 2024.2.7 would revert...

Automatic settings on windshield wipe when on auto pilot (problem worse)

I'd much rather Tesla solve the very basic task of windshield wiper operation before attempting to solve "fool full self-driving". :)

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I am beginning to think that Tesla has changed the software to discourage owners from performing self-installs for HomeLink. It looks like installing HomeLink now requires a configuration update that can only be performed by Tesla. I suspect those of us who were able to self-install hardware...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Let me guess - 19"? I have the 20" tires and I'm down to 5.5/32" from the original 9/32" at 16,500 miles in 99.999% Chill Mode, which, by the way, is still slightly faster than mashing the accelerator pedal to the floor in a 1999 Buick Regal with a 3.8L V6 engine that I owned. The sense of...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

The mobile tech arrived about an hour and 15 minutes late, but was very courteous. He said he had never seen this issue before. He thought the module was bad, so he replaced it. Same error. He then tried a 12-volt reset. Same error. What fixed it was to use his laptop to update the vehicle's...

    Homelink retrofit install failure

I drove 31 miles to the nearest (tiny) Tesla service center Friday afternoon, walked in, and said I'd like to order a Homelink module, bracket, and bolt for my Model Y. I gave the part numbers to the employee and to my surprise, he said he had everything in stock. I was expecting to pay $200 for...

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Yes, but - it uses a variable-speed compressor that runs only fast enough to maintain the setpoint, which is only a small fraction of its maximum capacity. Combined with an evaporator and condensor for the cabin, the system also provides constant dehumidification more efficiently than any other...

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Nearly 40 years ago (!), Buick eliminated dozens of buttons with their touchscreen Graphic Control Center in the Riviera. Later, the Reatta got the GCC. Oldsmobile had a color version called the Visual Information Center that also integrated a cellular telephone, which the car could also use to...

    Supercharger - Terrell, TX

I'm a bit east of totality for the upcoming solar eclipse. Tentatively, I plan to camp out at this location even though I should have enough charge to get there and back. :)
  37. zroger73

Tesla Owners, Let's Talk: Touchscreen vs. Physical Buttons - What's Your Take?

Fun fact about that... Shaded pole motors like those used in ceiling fans have very low starting torque. To ensure the fan begins turning, they start on high. :)

    Homelink retrofit install failure

Purchased Homelink module, bracket, and bolt from my nearest service center yesterday for my '23 MY running 2024.2.2.1. Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

I don't find it weird at all. That would make too easy to do a quick A-B comparison between the two modes and Tesla might be afraid that people might realize there's not $2,000 worth of difference. Anyone can tell a big difference between Chill and Normal, but many people might not be able to...
  41. zroger73

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

That's how the ECON mode in a Honda works. When ECON mode is on, the accelerator pedal becomes less sensitive from 0% to about 70%. From about 70% to 100%, the accelerator pedal responds the same as when ECON mode is off. This allows for smoother, more efficient driving, but still gives you full...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Yesterday, I was on a two-lane road behind a vehicle that was traveling 45 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. I did not feel like Chill Mode would have allowed me to pass safely within the window of opportunity, so I temporarily switched to Sport Mode and floored the accelerator pedal at 45 MPH with a 70%...
  43. zroger73

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Interesting! This shows the difference in torque between the LR and LR+AB is greater around 45-60 MPH than at other speeds, which supports claims in some reviews that said AB felt more different above 40-50 MPH than it did off the line. Also interesting is that above about 50 MPH, there's not...
  44. zroger73

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

Assuming you're not joking, yes. :) It reduces maximum acceleration and also improves efficiency in cooler weather. You can improve the efficiency of the cabin heating by reducing your selected acceleration mode. This allows the heat pump system to take more heat from the Battery to efficiently...

Automatic settings on windshield wipe when on auto pilot (problem worse)

'23 Model Y purchased in April 2023. From delivery day with 2022.x software to February 21, 2024 through many updates, the auto wipers worked 99% as well as my other vehicles with auto wipers. In 2024.2.2.1, the wipers started wiping when dry. The problem became much worse in 2024.2.7. Prior to...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

I purchased '23 MYLR in April 2023. I purchased Acceleration Boost a month later before I had ever floored the accelerator pedal. In the 16,000 miles I've owned it, I can count on one hand how many times I've floored the accelerator pedal in Sport Mode. 15,999 of those miles have been in Chill...

How does one report a supercharger or a Tesla L2 charger not working?

For several weeks last year, I frequently saw a recently-purchased used Volt sitting for hours at a time plugged in to a 120-volt receptacle at a local park that I often exercise at. The owner would drive there, plug in, and have someone in a gas-powered vehicle pick him up then take him back...

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

That simply can't happen. The sealed part of the refrigerant system is under pressure with respect to atmosphere - even the low/suction side. In order for moisture to get past the seals and enter the system, you'd have to put the entire vehicle in a giant pressure vessel or submerge it under...

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

With that said, keep in mind that the heat pump in a Tesla is also used to heat or cool the battery while fast charging, for Cabin Overheat Protection, and when Camp/Dog/Keep Modes are in use. I drive about an hour per day, but I spend about 1.5 hours charging at free-to-me locations during...

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

For the last few decades, I have traded for a new vehicle every year on average. As long as that trend continues, desiccant replacement will be non-issue for me. However, if I choose or am forced to keep my Model Y longer than 4 years, I will have the desiccant bag replaced per Tesla's...
