2022 Model Y "Outer Portion" Tire Wear

The tire wear looks even to me. The inside groove and outside groove appears to be the same depth. Not sure what you mean by excessive wear. The geometry of the tire may be not look square because you have turned the wheel at an angle and bearing load, so it has a significant negative camber...

Installing 750W 120V inverter in cabin, what's the best wiring routing? (2023)

Triggering a max limit is an exceptional condition for any electrical device. It's a situation to be avoided. When the DC/DC converter is operating, the 12V battery is a load, not a source. It cannot "back fill". The 12V's only function is to provide power when the converter is not working. But...

Installing 750W 120V inverter in cabin, what's the best wiring routing? (2023)

The issue is not the battery but the charging circuit feeding that battery. That's going to be what's under load during normal driving, not the battery itself.

    Model Y Sound System Upgrade

When they say "there is room for improvement" at the start of the video, my immediate question would be: in what way? They tested the sound with hard rock and electronic music, two of the most processed and compressed low-fidelity music types. I don't think I heard any vocals, and certainly no...

Discussion: Experiences Renting a Tesla Model 3 / Y from various companies

I've been enjoying my new 2023 Y so I rented a Model 3 from Avis on our trip. The car has 3500 miles on it and looks like it has never received a good wipe down. My own car has 3000+ miles and is nowhere near this dirty. Funny thing is that on landing, Avis assigned me a Cadillac XT6, so I had...

    Two month impression

I don't understand the claim that they weren't able to integrate the three technologies. Clearly they were, which is why people are complaining about the removal of two of the three technologies. The issues you mentioned with vision are not deal breakers. If people can drive just fine with...

    Two month impression

USS has to have an active signal source because its design depends on it. Tesla Vision does not need its own light source because it uses existing light sources. Tesla Vision could be further enhanced with supplemental lighting, possibly taking advantage of matrix lights. In other words, Tesla...

    Two month impression

We are pretty avid road trippers. Maybe we are still in the honeymoon phase with our Y. We will see how it goes after another few months.

    Two month impression

We have the exact opposite experience, also 2 months and about 2500 miles into our Y. The Y is our vehicle of choice for long distance. It is a dar more relaxing drive due to the availability of enhanced autopilot. The ride is firm, I agree, but the Y seats are nice and soft, like sofa seats...

That should be fine to plug.

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

??? Are you seriously trying to argue that the subjective preferences of others, the things that bring them joy, are invalid because your own preferences are different or that they are in the minority?
  15. N

    Wheel Covers Other Than Aero

Very true, but they are just a little too chunky looking. The silver/grey color doesn't fit well with the rest of the car that has blacked-out trim. I also find that the straight lines and hard bevels clash with the soft-flowing body lines of the Model Y.
  16. N

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

There is no starting from a stop for an ICE engine without a torque converter. This is simply a characteristic of ICE engines. A transmission and an ICE work as part of a system. Saying that gears make up for the inability of an ICE is like saying batteries make up for the inability of electric...

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

Unsurprisingly, the system had difficulty judging the distance when I was pulling into a parking space that faces a large white featureless wall. At some point after the front cameras lost sight of the line separating the floor and the wall, the distance became unreliable, eventually showing...
  18. N

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

False. Gears have many purposes, one of which is to maximize torque to the wheels, but not for the reason that the torque is somehow only available in a small range of the engine's operable band as you are claiming. Without multiple gears, an engine that's geared to operate at a reasonable RPM...

This post reminds me of the thread where people post about all of the ignorant things that they've heard being said about EV cars.

2023 Model Y no USS discussion, incl. Discussion of Tesla Vision Firmware

I set my software update to "Advanced" so that I get it earlier. At first I got the 2023.6.8 update, and then on Saturday, I got 2023.6.9. So far I really like the vision park assist. It's mostly correct and is useful as a secondary alert for things that I may have missed. I don't so much as...

Rally Armor mud flaps - clips are falling out

I have the front-only Tesla mud flaps and they work well in keeping the rocker/lower-doors protected from dirt and rocks. The rear of the Model Y is shorter, angles away, and is matte black plastic. I don't see a need for mud flaps there to protect anything. I looked at aftermarket mudflaps...

Anti-EV comments heard on my roadtrip so far

I don't think many of those are anti-EV as just ignorance. Most people are not evil or bad, they are simply not that well informed of things that they don't interact with. We all have some basic impression of things we are unfamiliar with - our primitive brain forces us to draw these conclusions...

    Washing -what do you use?

Well, I guess you have nothing to contribute in return. Why are you posting snide remarks in a thread where people are sharing their car wash routines when you admittedly don't really care that much about the whole ordeal? Are you just here to troll?

    Washing -what do you use?

This may be true for someone, but for most people, keeping ones appearance in good order is certainly a reflection of self respect. People do it as one of many many possible ways to improve themselves. Just because some people don't use this as a way to improve themselves, doesn't take anything...

    Washing -what do you use?

Honeydew foam, a bunch of fluffy microfiber towels. I then dry the car and use ONR to spray/clean the crevices and door sills, etc. I don't use ONR on the exterior paint surfaces because it adds micro swirls. The car is ceramic coated and I use Turtle wax hybrid ceramic spray every six months...

MIT Technology Review - How did China come to dominate the world of electric cars?

Well... yea, the Chinese government rules absolutely with no limitations that are present in western liberal democracies where there is the rule of law. They can make snap decisions with broad immediate effects with no regard for anything else. These decisions make instant winners and losers -...

North East Deliveries ( NOVA ), are the MY delivered with mud flaps and PPF in Feb-2023?

Also picked up from Tysons on 2/22. No mud flaps or PPF. I also installed the OEM mud flaps and they feel of very high quality. The aftermarket ones don't look very good from a design perspective.

Ideal driver's seat position in model Y

The reason you are sitting so forward is that you set the seat so high, so that you can only reach the pedals by moving your seat very far forward. Have a friend take a picture of you sitting in the driver seat with the driver door open. Your upper leg should at most be flat - preferably sloping...

    Model Y Sound System Upgrade

I have no idea. I just picked up my Model Y about a week ago and noticed the thin-ish lower midrange as I listened to it during an 850-mile road trip. I'm out of town and will measure the audio system when I get back. By then I can correlate the EQ bands with frequency.

Ideal driver's seat position in model Y

LOL. I generally have the lumbar support all the way in since, well, I no longer have a youthful figure, I so I don't have much of an arch in my back to support. I only mess with it if it becomes uncomfortable.

    Model Y Rear Spoiler, Advice

I did extensive research into the matter of foam tapes for mounting spoilers a couple of years back. Here I impart my wisdom willingly, without reservation. 3M is the standard for mounting tapes. There are other manufacturers of mounting tapes, but 3M is the most popular, with the most...

Ideal driver's seat position in model Y

Yea, if your head is getting hit by the sunvisor, you are sitting too high and too far forward, IMO. Generally, I set my seats for long-term driving comfort, which means my thighs are at a comfortable angle - which is slightly tilted up to ease thigh pressure and prevent sliding off the seat...

    Model Y Sound System Upgrade

Apples and oranges. The stock speakers use neodymium magnets, which are always smaller than ferrite magnets for the same strength. I've not taken apart a Tesla speaker's dash but there may not be space there to fit a driver with a standard ferrite magnet.
  35. N

    Model Y Sound System Upgrade

I thought it was pretty helpful, but not in a direct way. As I also explained, the system is pretty well-engineered. If the OP feels some midrange is missing, then some EQ adjustment should be enough. Changing just the speakers in a highly integrated audio system is a terrible way to go about...

Not sure why people need physical buttons for climate control

My wife doesn't want air blowing directly at her, so she usually set her temperature high, fan speed low, and directs air flow to upper and lower vents. Pressing auto messes this all up and she becomes very upset and irritated.

Tons of Micro Sratches On Delivery Day (2023 Black Model Y LR)

    Tax credit for 2022 filing

The tax credit applies to the tax year 2023 since you bought the car in 2023.

    Model Y Sound System Upgrade

Funny enough, I also feel like the lower midrange in the Model Y could use a slight boost of maybe 1-2dB centered around 100-200Hz. This should fill out the body of male and female vocals nicely. I just need to take some measurements to figure out which EQ slider this frequency range best...

    Model Y Sound System Upgrade

Agreed! I also built competiton car systems when I was younger and now work in the audio industry. The Tesla Model Y audio system is really good. It has great clarity and dynamics, with plenty of headroom. The imaging is also done really well and I am generally impressed with the capabilities of...

City permit for installing a wall connector in Gainesville, FL

Because you didn't mention the two main potential dangers with tandem breakers. Not all electricians are good electricians, some also don't know the danger of tandem breakers. Tandem breakers are perfectly fine so long as they are properly used. The paragraphs you quoted does not say no permit...

City permit for installing a wall connector in Gainesville, FL

These websites only say that a homeowner may perform the work, not that a permit is not required. I recommend calling your county/town to inquire. If anything goes wrong and there is damage to the home or property, insurance may deny the claim if there was no permit. Regarding tandem breakers...

Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

Yea, for 2023 Model Y, there should not be holes for the parking sensors. I also recommend checking on eBay as North Tints also sells there, and sometimes at a better price. The front bumper on a Tesla is not too bad. It's mostly flat and there aren't a lot of inward curves or bevels. I did a...

Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

I believe 3M Pro is like the "OEM" quality stuff. Not the sexiest but you know it comes from a high quality company and will be generally a good product. The new 200 series is said to be glossier and has hydrophobic qualities. Visually I think it will be similar, so it's up to you if you think...

I ordered pre-cut 3M Pro film from a company called North Tints. I've ordered kits from them in the past and have been very pleased.
