Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

Thanks for more details. I’m not familiar with that conclusion. It appears you’re telling me if I charge to 55% (as I do for winter), and discharge to 15% it has more degradation than if I discharge to 30%, recharge, and repeat. Counter-intuitive to me (higher average SoC), but that’s why I...

Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

E, you’ve made that statement twice just in this thread. I also see you own an LR, so we’re talking about “standard” nmc anode lion cells.. i know of no data that supports this, nor anybody well versed that says it. calendar aging is of course accelerated by very high rates...

Someone using my home charger while I’m on vacation?

Yes. The Wall Monitor app polls the wall charger and has day by day charge stats.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

I don’t know any that have studied this that doubt degradation occurs to nmc lion cells charged at rates of 1c and higher. As I recall this is attributed to plating acceleration. Such can be exacerbated by high C rates of charge or discharge as well of higher SoC. course the Tesla BMS, in...

Is it better for my car to spend more time at 50% or have shallower discharge cycles but spend more time at a higher state of charge.

Jax, obviously most of use feel aakee has a strong understanding on these issues. My own research agrees with his as well. One implication of this is to ignore those posts that contradict his guidance. As to your need, I would only suggest dropping/lower the supercharge to arrive home at 50%...

Tesla scheduled departure/off-peak charging not working

Scan this thread for discussion maxspagetti and I have had. Meets your need. What you are doing “should” work, but there are enough pitfalls and gotchas that using the 3rd party app “Tessie” is a better option. IMO of course.

HV Battery Died with 7 miles range left showing on Range display

Like alansubbie and aakee, I charge to 55% abc, use higher charges to whatever as needed for the rare trip. I’ve been under 10% frequently goto 5% when needed. As it happens I ran to 0% this week. Car has been to 100% once in 14 months, not over 85% otherwise. I will supercharge when...

FSD free trial. Very impressed. So better than Autopilot

While I'm impressed, at this time it can't be trusted enough IMO. So far it's: 1) Consistenly come across two lanes of traffic to get to interstate off-ramps 2) Attempted to drive into one Island at a destination. 3) Attempted to drive right into the front door of another 4) Failed to...

    Model Y Suspension Advice

I try not to write war and peace, and in doing so miss-set your expectation. To be more clear: 1) Pursing replacement shocks on a '23 or newer 3/Y is a direction with poor, if any, return in ride quality or cost. 2) Instead purchase 18" rims that are 7.5" or 8" wide. I suggest 245/55R, and...

    Model Y Suspension Advice

OP: Tire pressure, volume, and sidewall all have significant affect on ride quality. Yes, the 19’s ride better than the 20’s. However, the sidewall is still “upright” (so not bulged). Meaning the tread width and the rim width are about the same. This makes it difficult for the sidewall to...

Tire Pressure and Range - One Mans Test Results

I encourage everybody to evaluate the validity on their own, so have at it. A few thoughts: 1). While one could, as you did, note drag change as speed changes, the exponential relationship of drag to speed is relatively well known. Few will debate it. The idea of the test is to observe...

MY seen pulling a ~27ft Airstream yesterday - please don't

#2, were it real, and in the right hands, would be considerably safer. However, 750kg for a trailer capable of carrying 1750kg car, complete with brakes, seems a stretch. 20’ long, tandem, etc? Gotta be around 1000 even if aluminum. I would tow #2, if I approved the loading and trailer...

MY seen pulling a ~27ft Airstream yesterday - please don't

OP: Neither tongue weight rating nor towing capacity are laws. Call the cops all you want. GVWR, GCWR, on the other hand are clear and enforceable. Most posters on subjects like this have little to no real experience towing even moderate loads. There will be little to gain within this thread.

I had no idea the efficient fell off a cliff when it's raining!

wind is the big thing, (and as you can see often not understood) then speed, then hvac demand. Rain? Minor impact in my experience. Arriving at 6%? Well done. I plan on 10-15%. You want to be low to SC because it’s much faster. And this BS about always charging to 100%? Utter...

    AutoPilot Software Bug

Yea, it sucks. It’s watching hour eyes from the interior camera. It doesn’t seem to care if you watch it’s screen for half and hour, but put a cell phone up to the steering wheel so you can see it and drive? It will insta bitch. Shame that. It’s not like drivers don’t take their eyes...

Slow or Faster charge for battery health

l2 speed is well below any charge rate degradation. Well below. Those understand this prefer to charge to 55% or below, abc, and charge to higher rates as needed just before departure thus minimizing time at higher SoC. Myself included.

FYI, Schedule precondition is not the same thing as supercharge preconditioning. in fact, considerably different.
  26. D

    Charge efficiency, 20A vs 40A vs 48A?

yes…. I don’t worry, or even think about, the breaker. there Is loss over that entire circuit, by and large the wire, and that’s what I measured.
  27. D

    Charge efficiency, 20A vs 40A vs 48A?

Breaker to evse loss is in the table linked and varies by amperage. Breaker itself? Unknown

  29. D

    Charge efficiency, 20A vs 40A vs 48A?

I would add heat loss over the breaker to evse increases as amps increase. I did test all this. I still use 48a, but 40a was overall more efficient https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/most-efficient-charging-level.293690/#post-7779752

    preheat for supercharging without nav?

I suggest two directions: 1). Ask James at Tessie if he has plans, or will, to implement battery preconditioning for SC. 2).Ask enhance auto where they are at in implementing via s3xy buttons.

better to charge to 90% or allow run down to 10%?

One thing to consider: Not all studies show such a sharp drop around 60% going flatter around 70%. However, all I’ve seen do show loss as we increase SOC and that in general getting steeper around 60%. Point: there may be mild debate about exactly where degradation gets significant, but...

  33. D

    Regenerative braking on icy roads

may I suggest calling enhance auto? At one time they had committed to an automation that would set regen to a user defined value when temp was 33f or lower. That seems to be low priority to them, but they may reset that with customer interest. For 3/Y I consider this vital. It’s literally...

Hot 40C summers what should max SoC be?

The car won’t allow less then 50%,and those of us that have looked into this adequately stay around 54-55% until a trip arises that needs more. Personally when it gets really hot I drop to the 50%, but that’s splitting hairs.

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

Range extender is as idiotic as the truck. What in heck is yet more battery gonna do? Do none of the fan boys tow? (Ok, silly question, of course not). You’re going to cut range in half AT BEST and often by 2/3rds. I’m gonna spend $116k, plus tax, to tow 150-200 miles? Golly thanks, but...

How many of you will/may transition to CyberTruck?

I use trucks for truck things, don’t need to be seen in the latest cool fad, and aren’t trying to protect the president. Why would I buy a cybertruck? I do have a deposit on a Ramcharger though.
