    CommaAI OpenPilot

I'm having issue that since update several months back I cannot use autopilot on non-highway roads, on which I drive very often (topic - Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.) To the point that I'm considering selling tesla and buying a toyota with their most modern driver assist...

Superchargers in Poland and the Baltics

I drive often in Poland and can recommend this: Use ABRP or Plugshare and set filter to 150+kw and at least 4 charging stalls. You'll get Greenway and Ionity mostly. Do not ever rely on 1 stall chargers - those are often doesn't work and no one can do anything with that. I've actually driven...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Oh, interesting the situation of OpenPilot for Teslas, I've seen it supposed to be available March 2024, maybe this can solve issues I'm having, definitely will be cheaper than to change the car (especially that Tesla is superior in every aspect but autopilot). I'll open a separate thread...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

@jhneuerburg shoot they indeed made it impossible to contact them from the USA?! That's surprising... Your issues seems to be due to wrong map data? If so - it seems it plagued tesla it seems forever (as per forum posts) and it's unlikely they'll do anything with it. How much do you estimate...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Try to use "Vehicle & App Features" and then there will be second dropdown - select "Autopillot..." option: They will show you a few tutorials and ask if you need further assistance, choose yes and you'll be shown a textbox limited to 500 character where you can ask your question: Great that...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Guys let's message Tesla about this problem, maybe they'll react. I've just driven 9 hours one way and 9 back. Trip there was awesome on a highway, I've arrived barely tired. 99.5% on AP, on my way back there were a traffic jam on a highway so car directed me on 2 lane road where it read in the...

@jhneuerburg Ah sorry the email doesn't work: > This mailbox is no longer being monitored. I've contacted them via email but got that reply. You need to contact them at https://www.tesla.com/support (bottom of the page) then they'll reply you from that email with the ticket number and it'll...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

@jhneuerburg can you please write tesla about your experience at [email protected]? I'm keep writing them and initially they were like "There is nothing can be done, just report and hope for the best" however I was keep nagging them and they asked me for more details, videos etc and...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

    1) At least in the US you can buy or subscribe FSD beta and it'll allow you to override speed limit, Tesla support confirmed that it's not available in Europe (i.e. FSD won't allow to override speed limits) 2) Try the newest firmware, 2024.8.* - it's MUCH better now, I have a feeling that Elon...

New AutoPilot is horrible after update

Guys, has anyone noticed improvements in the autopilot nag with the latest firmware? I'm on version 2024.8.4 and observed that I can use autopilot without a cheating device. Previously, my experience (which might be an EU thing) was that merely resting my hand on the wheel wasn't enough; I had...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Oh, @HankE-LA , I'm surprised. Well, if it'll help: 1) It was MUCH worse, before it could start braking just out of nowhere, on absolutely empty road with no traffic etc. Now I have breaking but it's no longer that phantom - it's usually oncomming traffic in a turn and the car is confused that...
  12. Handsome Jack

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

@HankE-LA Oh, make sure you have the latest software. I no longer have phantom braking, sometimes it's confused on sharp turns and thinks that car will crash into you, but it's not as bad as it used to be. Wipers seems also are better on the latest software.

Autosteering chooses curve speed like a racedriver, is that expected?

I believe the car lacks an "aggressiveness" setting. For instance, I often find myself pressing the accelerator pedal to keep up with traffic because Eastern European drivers tend to be more assertive. They don't slow down for turns, and the way Tesla gradually accelerates when traffic picks up...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Interesting suggestion, however I've experienced it in any temperatures, both around 1C and 10-15C However!!!!! Recently I've driven the same road where I normally have issues (tesla reading speed sign like 30 and applying it for dozens kilometers) - and I didn't have it. There were a few...

NHTSA make roads across the world less safe

Oh, actually I've driven 3 Teslas in Europe that has the same characteristic - I was test driving Model Y for about an hour (I wanted to test if it worth to pay for an Enhanced Autopilot, in my case it didn't make sense) - it has the same requirement for the torque on the steering wheel. It's...

No degradation after a year and 20,000km (12k miles)

Wondering, what's wrong, my Tesla doesn't degrade as much as I expect. I'm living in an apartment block with no charging, I charge mostly in shopping centers or on highways, 70% of charge are high speed chargers. Most mileage are highway miles, mostly driving at the max speed limit with...

Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

Maybe I can share my experience, I've had 2020 Toyota Corolla, 1.8 Hybrid, it had underpowered 1.8l engine. It was Limited trim and come with 18" 225x35 wheels. I've rented the same car before for a week and dynamic was acceptable. But my car was MUCH slower. To say nothing that it wasn't...

NHTSA make roads across the world less safe

Totally agree! Toyota's assistance systems called "Toyota Safety Sense", I've had v2.5 and it wasn't updatable, newer Toyotas has version 3.0 - it's much better in terms of centering in sharp corners but it's updatable so authorities can enforce essentially whatever. With more and more...

NHTSA make roads across the world less safe

It's likely not a bug, I've rented TMY before I've bought mine, and it was absolutely the same. In terms of torque on the steering wheel. It became worse due to camera monitoring and bans (before it was only AP disengage for the rest of the trip). I've also asked about that and we agreed that...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Did it work for you? I've created a separate topic for that - Does reporting incorrect speed limit works? But people weren't very optimistic about that. I've reported it multiple times before (when it was using wrong map data) but cannot verify now as on 2.5 hours drive now speed limit is...
  21. Handsome Jack

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

That's actually a huge disadvantage of Tesla, if it's their position and they want to enforce it, like to use AP only on highways. And probably people should know before they buy Tesla, I imagine if someone drives only on a highway it's cool but it can be a dealbreaker for someone like me. Even...
  22. Handsome Jack

NHTSA make roads across the world less safe

That's probably EU vs USA thing - in EU it's much more severe, like you only have 2-4 seconds to jiggle quite strongly (I often increase jiggle intensity, while it's not being picked up by a car to the point that it disengage autopilot) before you get strike. I solve it by cheating device - not...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

It's actually a good question, now when you asked I kind of remember it that TACC tend to slow down before the turn, while autopilot (when it was largely working before the update) was often braking mid turn, probably realizing that it couldn't do a turn due to limits enforced by EU regulation...
  24. Handsome Jack

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Oh that's actually interesting, I'm driving through mountains and TACC reduces speeds on very sharp curves, even a bit more than needed (like down to 25km/h where it's totally safe at 40-60) I don't know how autopilot behave there as it's 90km/h limit road and it's stuck at 30-50km/h limit so...

    >Can be a real fatigue saver in poor visibility conditions as its ability to find and follow a lane is excellent. Maybe it's due to personal physics, but I've noticed that I'm less fatigued using just TACC vs Autosteer with manual accelerator. Still much more fatigued comparing to cars that...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

Thanks for the information! I've asked Tesla Europe if it's the case here as well, I'll indeed buy/subscribe FSD if it'll help to solve the issue. That was the case for me as well before the update, very annoying but something that can be lived with. I think it's likely that sometimes in the...

    >It's all about what car/technology fits your needs. Does reporting incorrect speed limit works?

It doesn't appear to be my tesla only - I've rented Tesla before the purchase, and it behaved the same way (before the upgrade - not reading signs but having maps with 40% incorrect speed limits). I bet with the update it'll be the same (as per related topics on this forum) Unfortunately, I...

I completely agree with the author on this topic. Regarding another issue: >Other Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) all "nag" for attention just as much, if not more. This is simply not true. I know for a fact that modern Toyotas and Lexuses do not nag you nearly as much...

Does reporting incorrect speed limit works?

Nah, it's definitely has nothing to do with wheels, I have stock wheels and tires, 19" But there clearly a bug where Tesla reads 30km/h limit and keep applying it for the next 30 minutes of driving despite of me entering or leaving multiple residential areas. Cannot imagine wheels affecting it...

Does reporting incorrect speed limit works?

I'm having an issue where I'm unable to use Autopilot on the roads I'm driving. TLDR: During my 2.5-hour drive, it consistently indicates a much lower speed limit about 95% of the time, rendering Autopilot useless. (the full version - Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.) I've contacted...

Autopilot is useless on non-highway roads.

I've found that after a recent update, Autopilot has become useless on non-highway, two-lane roads. With the update, Tesla learned how to read speed limits and enforces a maximum Autopilot speed of +10 km/h (6.2 miles per hour). The problem is that it reads a 30 km/h (18.6 miles per hour) sign...

I got a very unfair third strike that I do not understand. Please help.

I'm in Europe so no FSD for us but I also have bad experience with Tesla nagging - to stop it just resting your hand is not enough. Wiggling is also not enough, I've also got several disengages while perfectly holding wheel, applying force, wiggling. I solved it by using cheating device that...

New AutoPilot is horrible after update

That's actually a very good description how exactly it works now! (on my car, before the update) And I find it as a good compromise, i.e. to write an essay on the phone while driving is huge NO! No L2 system should allow it, but 3-5 seconds off the wheel (while glancing on the road and being...

New AutoPilot is horrible after update

Ignoring all replies that driver should always pay attention and nag is good. New AutoPilot is horrible after update

    > This is a perfect description of the problem that is causing this to need fixing. No it's not, people are doing the same with old cars that has no system - they just check their phones or text while driving. We, the normal drivers, know when it's safe to do so - like wide road with no...

Retrofitting parking sensors for a new Model Y

Just wanted to update - I'm using this thing for 3-4 months already, and I'm totally satisfied. Speed limits completely off in Eastern Europe

Shoot, ok, will look for another solution. Btw here how it looks like in practice: It's a 4 lanes road (2 lanes in each direction) with a divider, limit here is 90km/hr but people normally drive 100-120 km/hr, yet, Tesla things that the limit is twice as lower and insist on that for...

Speed limits completely off in Eastern Europe

Wow! Is it true, you can override an incorrect speed limit if you have bought an FSD?
