Yeah, the dealer trying to get out of a battery replacement of 16K wants to use a third-party shop for 5K. I said no. Almost a 4-month battle.

How can you read the BMS logs? Can they be read even if a vehicle has had a factory reset? I want to know what errors occurred before I bought the vehicle, as my extended warranty claimed the issues existed before the sale (denied claim), but they have no proof. Neither do I.

My 2014 85 MS was in SC for other repairs unrelated to HV when I got BMS errors the morning of the SC appointment. Once it arrived at SC, it would not charge and they gave me an HV batter replacement quote.

Tesla will still give their total trade-in value. At least that is what they told me when my pack died.

Oh and 14K for the refurbished battery (all new cells.) The problem is two shorted or low SOC cells, meaning an unbalanced pack.

The Extended Warranty I bought was from a third-party and would not cover anything due to corrosion or wear and tear--they can deny any claim they want. I do not EVER recommend a third-party warranty for Tesla unless they explicitly state they will cover any power train failure, no matter what...

$1849 for a six-month policy on a vintage '14 Model S, but I haven't owned a car in years; therefore, high premiums for about six months until it's lower.

Out of warranty, out of pocket. I brought in for other minor adjustments to items of the car unrelated to BMS, and BMS gave errors hours before the appointment, so they diagnosed that as a failure of some cells. Not sure why it failed on the same day as my appointment; coincidence? I don't know.

Suppose you want a short-term repair, module replacement. If you want a long-term repair, pack reserve. Refurbished packs from Tesla are all new modules/internals, but the case is the only component used.
