Review of my 2024 Tesla M3 RWD after approx 2 weeks

Hands down my 97M outperforms my Model 3...when I'm driving in the twisties, it's not blistering hot out and the fun factor at less than highway speeds. Otherwise, my RWD is the better daily.

    Most efficient tire?

Close. I drive the I110 from Pasadena to DTLA a lot. And this is where you can really feel the weight of the Model 3, compared to an ICE car like my Accord Sport and NA Miata.

    Most efficient tire?

More like Discount Tire has exclusive rights to distribute and sell YK-series in the US. Not quite the same thing as Yokohama is a Discount Tire brand. Non-YK ADVANS may or may not have a different arrangement. But Discount tire has become the behemoth of internet tire sales since acquiring...

Vendor The Upgrade Every Tesla-Driving Parent Needs to Discover

I've seen alot of these on aliex. Still way to much asking for what is basically a board. Instead, I bought the smaller plastic one for $3 that wedges on the steering wheel and it's pretty worthless. but the risk was only $3.

    Highland top speed reduced…

Fairly certain any stock production Model 3 base would be limited to same 125mph. Provides separation from premium trims and the Model S, while preserving same performance to previous years models. This will be true until some liberal State legislates in speed governors. CA has an SB floating...

First Drive with a Steering Wheel on a Model S

could one simulate how the yoke drives by just not touching the top half of the wheel?

Did you just buy a Tesla from Hertz Car Rental?

My #1 reason...you will never know how many drunk/stupid people may have pee'd or barfed in that car.

    Trunk liners

I bought a folding rear one with the frunk from aliex. I would like to see a Taptes one in person, just to compare material at each price point.

Hit obstacle on road, some damage under. Does service center fix these? Attached image

wow, note to self...don't go to SC if at all possible for something like this to only get battery warranty voided. i realize there probably is no way avoiding it, but that still sucks.

    Wheel aerodynamics for symmetrical pairs

Yes, picture is correct. If you reversed them, I'd expect more wind resistance. FYI, the OEM uberturbines use a single mold for all 4 wheel.

Drove an ET5 Touring demo car yesterday - it's pretty good!

Nice comments. I love performance wagons, but all that car-sick inducing squat and rebound is a deal breaker for me.

Model 3 Steering Wheel Peeling - less than 3 years

I don't think Tesla's blanket statement that it's caused by hand sanitizer and lotion so not warranty covered as a blanket statement is appropriate either. What kind of car manufacturer makes material choices that are deteriorated by commonly used items like sanitizer and lotion? I don't get...

Model 3 RWD vs Model 3 LR?

I vote LR. You may not need it daily, but it's always useful on road trips.

    Datsun 100A

Nice. Would love a no nonsense, electric propulsion, rest mechanical car. I really think that would be my ideal EV. Only stick point is how to arrange a decent air conditioner.

Does Chill mode increase efficiency? Surprisingly, Tesla says yes

I started using chill mode when summer started heating up. Seems to be more efficient based on my observations of Wh/mi, even without the heater on. Since most of my driving is city, in Standard mode, I was getting up to 40 faster than necessary, so I'll probably stay in Chill unless I need it...

Jack to use with Rennstand jack stands?

One can buy more than six "disposable" $150 HF jacks for the same "rebuildable" $1,000 trade grade floor jack. Pick the option that best fits your use case.

Any data on dead HV battery M3 value?

Wondering if anyone has data on values for M3s with dead batteries? Like good condition, but past the basic warranty.

2023 Model 3, less than 2 months old, never been through a car wash, and the black trim has gotten weird - see pics.

I wouldn't even hand polish with any compound on that trim, as suggested by that detail video. While a single hand polish may not make it lose the satin finish, repeated polishes over time may start to make it shiny. I would think there is a mild chemical or natural solution wipe method to fix...

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

The AC in my old '03 G35 would get that smelly sock smell. When it would happen, it only lasted about 30 secs and would go away. The fix to minimize the occurrence was to turn off the AC while parking and let it blow for a little bit before shutting down the engine. Don't really know why that...

    Goodyear ElectricDrive GT Tires 235/45R18

Same here, especially if there is significant downhill. On one of my regular short drives, I can clock a little over 100 Wh/mi on the downhill return trip, if there is massive backup on the flatter residential streets.

How to confirm 2nd inverter is dead? Generation has cut in half

On my SunnyBoy inverter to totally clear a fault, I had to power it off and pull the physical disconnect for 30 secs and restart for it to function again.

    6 Weeks & 7,000 Miles - Thoughts from a penny pincher (2023 MYLR)

It isn't, but my rate is $0.32, $0.41 if I get into Tier 2. And based on my usage, total electric bill is a wash if I switched to our TOU EV rate.

Tesla rigged the dashboard readouts in its electric cars to provide “rosy” [range] projections

Since there are so many variables involved, IMHO actually doing a physical test seems time consuming, expensive and silly. I understand these are for news articles, so actually doing the physical test *seems* important to add legitimacy. But you should be able to get a good idea of expected...

    6 Weeks & 7,000 Miles - Thoughts from a penny pincher (2023 MYLR)

I did this analysis before buying my M3 RWD in March and concluded that it was a wash vs a CR-V hybrid and a Prius is more cost effective. Used a cost/mi approach considering fuel, maintenance, tires and insurance. Insurance is the cost-effectiveness killer on the Tesla. I'm in SoCal, with...

More old man wood - RPM Tesla centre console

is there any hangup on the console door opening or closing? I wanted to get this, but matching and the door hanging up with the added thickness concerned me. The smoothness of the closing is very satisfying to me.

How to confirm 2nd inverter is dead? Generation has cut in half

If you can do this and the capacity works, you could swap the wires on the panels and inverters to see if it's an inverter issue or a panel bank issue. My non-Tesla inherited system had 2 panel banks, 2 inverters and years ago, lost one set of panels. Called the guy out and he looked at it...

Supercharger - Alhambra, CA - E Bay State St (under construction Mar 2024, 12 V3 stalls)

There's been construction going on there for awhile now. I shop over there sometimes and get my ceviche fix nearby, so this will be a good location. It will probably be full on weekends though, with all the eateries on Main St.

Model 3 decision time: used now vs new later

At this point, unless you are hard up for Tesla, I'd wait on both new and used. Wait until Highland comes out and evaluate this again. That way, you can see if you can save enough to buy a Highland new, or see if there is better pricing on used Model 3s at that time. Used prices may soften.

The Right Way of Fixing Chips on My Model 3 Paint using Dr. Colorchip

Whoa, nice find. I tried searching for a kit with clear coat and no luck. Does this kit also have the smoother? I can't tell from the website, but the complete kit comes with an extra bottle of something.

    California Window tint enforced?

I've been pulled over once for front side tinted windows in 38 years of driving. So it can happen. It was through Ridgecrest coming back from Mammoth, and that CHP station is known to love ticketing people.

As long as I'm in CA and within an IOU service territory, we will have 1 EV, 1 Hybrid.

The Right Way of Fixing Chips on My Model 3 Paint using Dr. Colorchip

I wonder why they can't just do a 2 bottle kit, one with white paint and one with the pearl. I've seen other vids where they knock the first touch up down and have to do a repeat to make it level. That repeat could be a pearl coat. I guess maybe the pearl coat doesn't knock down with the...

NEM 1.0, Power Wall and SCE is it worth it?

Like someone earlier said, home charging is probably pushing you into Tier 2 or 3. The last page of you bill will show you a bar graph of your billed usage and tiers, along with each rate. You should download your usage data, then build a spreadsheet (not a simple task) so you can compare rate...

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s vs Hankook Ion EvoAS

I think only you will be able to judge whether $350 is worth it for the PS4S or not. You're comparing one of, if not the best, summer tires out there vs. an all-season. Also, top summer tires usually perform better in the rain than all-seasons (most people don't know this). If you don't see...

Is the new Fiat Topolino (only) street legal as a golf cart in the U.S.?

While I love the idea of more golf cart like vehicles for urban transit, I'd probably never use one unless I was in a retirement community solely because of safety. Not that they are unsafe, but I don't want to get creamed by an ICE vehicle in one of these.

    Goodyear ElectricDrive GT Tires 235/45R18

Specwise on Tire Rack, the GY is a higher traction rating, 0.1" wider tread and 1/16" more tread depth. I've had GY Eagles twice and they sorted sucked, so I've stayed away from them since. All my Michelins across 3 cars have been great, and the one time I had Contis great as well. Hankooks...

Does Cabin Overheat “No A/C” mode work for anyone?

Gonna be pretty hard to invent tint that breaks the laws of thermodynamics. After 2 hrs in the sun, no amount of tint will make a significant difference.

Does Cabin Overheat “No A/C” mode work for anyone?

I don't get any notifications for either, and I park in my driveway in the hot SoCal sun. I set on 'no a/c', can't see a reason to kill energy with a/c on just sitting there. if something in the car 'deteriorates' while just sitting there in the sun, they need to go back to the drawing board...

TFL checks out the new Silverado EVs

Something occurred to me and just did the math...200kwh battery with 400 mi range = 500 Wh/mi being generous. That's crazy inefficient! Compare that to the 2023 M3RWD that calculates to 220 Wh/mi.

Has anyone cut ties with your utility in California?

There are different rules for IOUs vs Munis, so a blanket question like this causes more confusion than clarity. But to my knowledge, it is pretty difficult to completely disconnect from either. Also, if you do want to disconnect and are able to, check the reconnect fees before deciding...

I guess Ill be doing all my charging at mostly Public level 2 chargers

Replacing the headrest in the model 3/S-Maybe this helps someone

    Most efficient tire?

If I had to buy tires today, I'd probably do either PS4AS or Conti Extreme Contacts. The PS4AS are the best AS tires I've used and are damn near close to summer tires for daily driving in congested LA. On my second set on my 14 Accord Sport manual. Since the MXM4s are more expensive and most...

Getting ready to buy my first Tesla... What to know...

I'd say read up on cold weather EV performance for your area before diving in. I live in SoCal, so largely don't have to deal with cold batteries, but if I was anywhere in the NE or snowy areas, I'd think hard about an EV. I bought in March this year. But if it wasn't for the tax rebate and...
