22% depreciation in 8 months [Update: sold it for 5.4% less than new price]

Did you have the same clothes and sit in the car for the same amount of time? Otherwise I would expect that you get the same problem again. I suggest you see a doctor about your sores, that would probably be more helpful than ordering a car with another interior color.

22% depreciation in 8 months [Update: sold it for 5.4% less than new price]

Honestly this is just stupid. First of all that rash is ridiculous (meaning that it looks like nothing), there's nothing saying that you couldn't or won't get a similar rash from a Tesla Model 3 with white interior. Did you wear the exact same clothes and sit in it for the same amount of time...

Mirrors don't tilt down when going in reverse

Have you set the mirrors how you want them while in reverse? If not I don't think they will tilt down.

Am I wrong? Tech package now $7,500?

I think the main problem here is that Tesla packages almost everything and make it unavailable as a single option. Most car companies make packages of several options, so instead of choosing the most common features they bundle it up and make it a package with some discount. But you can still...

Tesla just changed the competitive landscape (vs Audi/Mercedes/BMW AWD Grand Coupes).

Ok well in Europe it is not, so not really a relevant comprison then for us europeans at least. Why are they limited in the US?

Tesla just changed the competitive landscape (vs Audi/Mercedes/BMW AWD Grand Coupes).

I can't be bothered to actually check the exact numbers but there is no chance in hell that those top speed numbers are correct for the BMW 640 and the Audi A7 quattro with 333 hp.

Tesla still delivers cars with moisture in reverse light housing!

Well since it's field quality issue I guess and hope all brands would do.

Automobile Magazine.... big wheels and it's affect on ride quality

Handling is not related to whether the car has 21" wheels or 19". In fact it's more likely that the 19" would have better handling since you can make a 19" rim lighter.

    Firmware 6.2 press release info

I think 6.2 seems like a great improvement, and I think some people here just expect the impossible. From an engineering point of view over the air updates will never be able to increase the range by any significant number, it's not magic what they are doing at Tesla.
  10. P

    Range isn't what needs attention...

Off course, but the problem (at least for the OP) is that the engine in the Tesla doesn't have it's peak torque when at high rpm (like an ICE), thus it feels slower than another 700 hp car with a gearbox would do at speeds like 60-100, especially when you don't have a gearbox. However since the...
  11. P

    Range isn't what needs attention...

Some extra weight to account for a gearbox. Or you could change the current gearing, but that would mean slower initial acceleration.
  12. P

    Range isn't what needs attention...

Only way to adress that is with a gearbox, I think it would be a good idea with maybe a 3-speed gearbox. That should be sufficient.

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

Well as with all large engineering projects you can't just allocate any engineer to just focus on a different area, they have engineers specialized in various fields and you can't just focus all engineering resources on different parts of projects as you wish. Or well you can but then you'd have...

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

I what way would a battery swap eliminate range anxiety? Would there be a lot more places to change batteries than there are superchargers?
  15. P

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

You are aware that your are not using 470 hp at all times? And using 200 HP would be a lot, kW is a measure of power and horsepower is as well, and as you probably have noticed in your car you rarely go above 20-60 kW when just cruising. Also since an electrical engine is so much more energy...

Elon "About to end range anxiety"

Sounds like a good way to be hazard to everyone and yourself if you end up driving 25 mph on the highway.
  17. P

The worst supercharger park job I've ever seen. Any others?

Wow, if you can't even back a car into a parking spot you probably shouldn't even be driving on the public road or have a drivers license :s
  18. P

    Still no M5 vs. P85D?

I don't think bashing BMW for their big rims is such a good idea when Tesla had 21 inch rims as standard :)
  19. P

    Still no M5 vs. P85D?

Hmm doubtful, unless you are only interested in 0-60 or they fixed the problems with overheating.

    2014 Tesla P85D S Performance Paid $140,570 498 miles Every Option

Well if you don't plan on losing 15k+ on your car, you can't buy a Tesla or any other car that cost as much as a Tesla.

Traction in snow on summer performance tires

Sounds like a great idea, four-wheel drive is just what you need, then you can get even more speed before realizing four wheel drive doesn't help when you need to brake for something... Only winter tires does.

  24. P

P85D Buyers, did you want Smart Air Suspension or were forced to add it?

Not likely that they optimised them anymore than coil. They are completely separate shock absorbers. They are most likely optimised by tesla and the supplier for the same characteristics.

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

No my point is that the Tesla Model S can't lap a track, the BMW can, and unless Tesla make a Model S capable of driving on a track without going into limp mode after 3 minutes it's ridiculous to mock BMW, Audi etc in terms of performance. It only makes you look like a fanboy if you do. There...

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

Well you don't have to go to the ring, any track or alpine road will work. Never said we were talking about race cars. Is the BMW a race car because it can lap a track?
  27. P

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

Probably not for BMW. And Europeans. And Americans who drive on track days.
  28. P

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

No but people who does want a performance car might do laps there or at other tracks. My point being its kind of weird that all people use as a comparison in this thread is 0-60 time. Not lap-times, top speed, suspension etc. If we are to discuss performance there is a lot more to it than 0-60...

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

Ok then it's settled then if you dont use a car that way it's not needed or wanted by the rest of the world.
  30. P

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

Well you could argue that straight line performance better than 0-100 km/h in less than 6 seconds is pretty meaningless, but it's still desirable by some.
  31. P

    BMW touting a P85D killer?

It might be able to lap the Ring though... Until a Tesla can without going into limp mode I wouldnt be too disrespectful.
  32. P

Have the brakes on the P85D been upgraded to match the power?

I doubt fade will be a problem since it's hard to push the car, if it can't make more than 1/3 of a lap at the Nurburgring I have a hard time seeing the brakes would start fading during any kind of use. (Except from maybe riding down a mountain pass really fast, but even then it would perform...

No P85D with Coil Suspension this year ...

Well technically any shock absorbers that uses a valve can be revalved. If they do any changes themselves it would most probably be changing from different internal setups recommended by the supplier. However I do not believe they do any custom re-valving themselves. Being a nerd doesn't make...
  34. P

No P85D with Coil Suspension this year ...

Most likely it's not "engineering" (I guess you mean Teslas R&D department) that does any kind of internal changes (such as re-valving) with the shock absorbers. It's more likely Tesla request a certain characteristic for the shock absorber and supplier tries to meet this. The performance of a...

Yes something similar to airport lounges. The cost for the lounge could either be pay per visit or some kind of membership.

Ok 1 mm+ is better than 0, but it doesn't sound good, surely this chamfer is something you will change? I'm not sure what kind of loads you have if you hit a large bump in the road at reasonable speed, if the axial load that the screws provide are overcome by the force from the impact you really...

Surely this can't be a correct image of how they are mounted? On the image you posted it looks like they centre of the wheel is not in contact with the shaft at all, which basically means it would be hanging on the screws, which obviously wouldn't work. How long is the actual contact surface...

On a budget....S60D with Tech vs barebones S85???

Sounds like a very stupid idea to get AWD instead of winter tires. Have you driven on snowy or frozen roads with summer tires? If so you should know AWD does not help you at all when you try to stop the vehicle. Also a rear wheel drive car with winter tires will have much better traction than an...

    D and Saleen

I think this actually pretty good for Saleen, the relatively low power front engine could be replaced by a more powerful front engine, this could make the Tesla enter hyper car straight line performance.

    Tesla moments

    Model S or BMW 740LDXdrive

I'm waiting for my Model S to arrive so I don't have much experience yet of the car, however I did test drive a Model S P85+ before I ordered. The Model S is really a great car, however I wouldn't have chosen it if it weren't for the tax benefits (which of course differ from country to country)...

Saleen Foursixteen Video with sound from modified drivetrain.

Yes, straight cut gears are popular in motorsports for that reason. Straight cut gears can also be considered more robust since they are more durable if you can't increase the diameter of the gear wheel. The gear teeth will get thinner if you use the same diameter and number of gear teeth when...

RYDEEN RDV360 degree Bird's Eye view plus Integrated 9500ci Display

That's pretty cool, I can't believe Tesla doesn't offer functionality like this, my VW Golf Mk7 (year model 2013) had more advanced parking aid than the Tesla has.

Your Model S has entered the production queue at our Factory in Fremont, California

It probably means exactly what it says, it has entered the production queue. It's very common to plan ahead exactly when a car will be produced (or any other component), so the production queue could still mean it will be 3 months before they start.

    Is the Tesla discrete enough?

To answer some of the questions, I work as a consultant, but as some have noticed not in the US. I work in Europe mainly for a truck manufacturer. I just ordered a black S85, with standard rims, and pano-roof, hopefully it will be discreet enough :)

    Is the Tesla discrete enough?

Sorry about the thread title, english is not my native language. I meant discreet :) I will probably get the regular 85 kWh, black, with the standard rims, and textile interior, the pano roof I unfortunately need because of the roof rack capability. Maybe just park it far from the entrance...

    Is the Tesla discrete enough?

This might sound like a weird question, so here is some background information to understand why I'm asking this. I work as a consultant in mechanical engineering within the automotive industry. I'll probably order a Tesla this month, but I'm having some doubts about how it will be perceived by...
