Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

What is your battery part number? Is it the same as your friend's? The number is on a sticker on the front right side of the battery.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Some of the common elements are battery part number, # of fast DC charges, total miles driven and firmware 2019.16.x or later (there could be more). Also the average drop in capacity is 12%. Tesla has not told us the values or limits of these elements that trigger the decline in capacity...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I can understand your frustrations. I'm frustrated too having lost 12% of my battery capacity due to a software update that imposed that limit. There is no defending Tesla's communication (and lack thereof) regarding this topic. It has been terrible. Given the recent battery fires in parked cars...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I have not measured Max power at 100% SOC since the last full charge. However the kW display indicates less power. At 100% SOC the pack voltage is 391v, cell average 4.07v, 61.9 kWh usable full capacity. So Max power is definitely less.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

As of June 16 my batter capacity has leveled off at 61.9 kWh (usable full pack not including the 4 kWh buffer) or about 212 miles rated range. This is down 12% from May 16 at about 71 kWh (or about 241 miles RR) before the 2019.16.1.1 firmware update. Overall the capacity is down 19% since new...

That looks good for you. How do you explain this? It would useful to know what battery version you have. Here's a pic of the sticker on my battery (front right side).

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

What do you think we should do about it? Revert to an older software version (before 2019.16.1)? Never accept new software updates? Other? There could be a software bug that keeps lowering the kWh capacity after driving or charging.

    Replaced Battery Capacity

I and several others are having a similar situation. I lost 29 miles in the last month and it continues. We need to collect more data car configurations, battery part numbers, etc See S85D sudden degradation

Looks good for you. It is not clear yet why some 85's are seeing this degradation. More data needed.

How many miles have driven on 2019.16.2 in two weeks? The sudden range lost is proportional to miles driven
  11. Dave46

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

YES! I have lost 29.4 miles (47 km) since May 16. That equal 9.2 kWh (12%) of lost battery capacity in one month. And it continues to drop every time I drive. Post #73 S85D sudden degradation How many km have you driven in the last month?

  13. Dave46

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

And keep in mind this reduction of capacity is not a one time event. It is worse: so far the battery capacity decreases every time I drive. Since May 16 I have loss 9 kWh at an average 2.5 kWh per 1000 miles. At that rate I'll have a 30% degradation from the new battery capacity (77.5 kWh) in...

Who wants in on a class action lawsuit? ;-)

Has the decline over 5 heart been gradual? Or have you seen a rapid change the last month? What software version does your car have and when did it last change? Could related to S85D sudden degradation
  15. Dave46

    Battery degraded after five weeks?

I don't think you have done anything wrong to degrade your battery. Some S 85 batteries are showing rapid degradation since mid May. These examples show loss of kWh capacity not just estimated range. See the discussion at S85D sudden degradation

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Your car has half the miles as mine. The 100% range on both cars had slowly declined to about 240 miles. Yet on or about May 16 with the same new software version, both car batteries started degrading rapidly. Coincidence? It doesn't feel like it. We need more data from more cars.
  17. Dave46

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

It is possible that Teslafi just reads the 100% estimated range that is stored in the car. No calculation needed. I can see that value from the diagnostic OBD2 port. The value in the car calculated by Tesla.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Thanks The rapid decline starts after May 16.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I'm not sure how to product that datatable. Also the rapid decline may not be related to the software change.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I should also report that on June 2, I started using an OBD2 and Scan My Tesla app to read the diagnostic port. On June 2 it indicated the "Normal full pack 69.6 kWh, Energy buffer 4kWh" On June 14 it indicated the "Normal full pack 66.0 kWh, Energy buffer 4kWh" The 3.3 kWh decline in battery...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I have a similar situation to report. Since May 16, 2019 my P85D has lost 27 rated miles (43 Km). That is 11% in 28 days and 3604 miles. The rate of decline continues at a consistent pace. The previous 72000 miles before May 16 the rated range had dropped at most 12 miles in 715 days. The...

Updates on SB 255, a new pro-Tesla bill introduced in 2018 New Mexico legislative session

Call the governor's office at 505-476-2200 to ask her support for the bill. Apparently the governor has control as to whether this will even be considered this legislation session which is scheduled to end this week!

This is good news. I encourage NM Tesla owners to call (or write) their state legislators to support this bill. Call the governor too :-)

SpaceX Falcon 9 v1.1 launch - DSCOVR satellite

SpaceX is probably using avionics systems similar to autolanding aircraft + airports: differential GPS from the barge aka ASDS + radio altimeter (radar) + triple redundant fail operative flight control computers. That capability has been around for over 2 decades. And BTW the accuracy can be 10...

    Battery + Fuel Cell Hybrid???

The Toyota Mirai is a battery + fuel cell hybrid electric car that will do 0 to 60 mph in 9 sec (be careful of the negative whiplash.) It has a 1.6 kWh NiMH battery but there is no mention that you can plug in to charge - so it is not a PHEV. It took Toyota nearly 10 years to make the Prius a...

Vacationing in Norway with a Model S

Any updates on renting a Model S in Norway? I'm looking for a way to use a Model S for six months! in Norway and other parts of Europe April - Sept 2015. Renting might be an option but if I could buy or lease (then sell) it probably would cost less. I am a US citizen and not an EU resident...

About time to unveil the D and something else

I was in a Tesla store Sunday (10/5) to configure a model S. When we came to the parking sensor option I said "don't think so". The Advisor gently hinted that that option was "important and definitely worth considering". This feature could be part of the drive assist set of sensors. Will it...

    Tesla Trips

We are traveling in Canada (no MS yet) and since our ATT was not working I bought aTelus Sim card for an android phone. For about $45 I got the Sim with 1 GB data good for 1 month. Google maps and nav work as expected. You could tether the MS to the phone wifi hotspot and the car should work...
