    Drive unit, new or refurbishishid?

I will agree entirely that they are different cars, however, they use the same BorgWarner transmission. Borg has their own spec for backlash, so its normal to expect some clunk in it, like I have said before, if it gets worse? Address if. I have seen brand new vehicles with a minor clunk, and...

    Drive unit, new or refurbishishid?

So the clunk in your Roadster drivetrain happens for the same reason the clunk in the Model S drivetrain happens. Yet one is normal and one is not?

    Drive unit, new or refurbishishid?

A minor clunk IS normal, a small clunk is present when going from accel to regen, and regen to accel in the 10-15mph range. This is considered an "expected noise". The clunk is created by backlash in the differential. If it gets worse over time, then it should be addressed. Roadster's have the...

    Drive unit, new or refurbishishid?

You don't have a choice in the matter really, you get what they put in. If the drive unit is being replaced for a clunk, prepare for it to come back because to a degree, its normal.

What does this wire connect to?

There is a thread on here about a salvage car... basically, with a salvage vehicle, you get cut off from Tesla. Best I can figure they don't want you to mess up their superchargers with damaged hardware or hurt yourself with leaking HV. Plus if you need to replace almost ANYTHING, you need...

What will happen if Tesla announces a 110kWh pack for the S

The problem right now is, its really hard to lower the price of a Model S. I mean, the drive unit and battery alone are a LARGE amount of the cost of the vehicle. The Gigafactory is what will be hopefully lowering the cost of the batteries to produce.

What does this wire connect to?

Its this way for most manufacturers, all the harnesses are there for all the packages, they just need the hardware to plug into.

What does this wire connect to?

I would say so long as your homelink works, your parking sensors (if equipped) works, RKE at the front of your vehicle, and you aren't throwing any alerts, you are ok. Also, Don't buy salvage Model S... all bad. AHA, okay, pulling out a frunk.. its connected to the secondary release latch of...

What does this wire connect to?

Homelink module is on the other side and does not have an antenna, and that harness tail is too short to reach. Also, what color are the wires on the connector.

What does this wire connect to?

    Vin#?

Need some help figuring out my salvage model S

I am going to give you guys some food for thought here. If you manage to get this thing running (which from what I have seen on here so far, doesn't seem likely) then you will have a car that will fail in the future, and you won't be able to replace it. The modules of this vehicle aren't plug...

2 questions: hanging up bluetooth phonecall, preheating car

The battery will use whatever means it has at its disposal to heat the battery fastest. All other systems take back seat to keeping the battery happy. If you lose a little range while preheating, don't worry, you will get it back when finished charging.

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

There have been multiple hardware upgrades and the major firmware pushes, 6.0 for instance, are pushed over the air, but each firmware update helps the car in small way, which is why it exists. As for violating the Magnuson Moss Act, I cannot speak on that, and for why other shops cannot work on...

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

But you realize with how often firmware is changed and how often hardware is updated that it is important to come in to get those applied to your vehicle? Not every firmware update is over the air, and Tesla will not reach to out to you for mandatory bulletins to be applied to your vehicle. It...

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

Eco, if you get all your service performed on time, then DON'T WORRY. Its the people who wait until something goes wrong at like 25k to come in for the first time that this policy is really aimed towards. I have seen owners come in with 15k who constantly drive in Low suspension mode who have...

    Windshield Replacement

You should go to Tesla SC. When the glass is replaced your light/rain sensor is removed from the glass, requiring replacement, as well as you will likely need new plastics for the rear view mirror because the mounting position has changed.

Huh. Extended warranty without Service plan?

Simply Question. Why would you not maintain your car at the recommended service intervals? Would you do the same with your ICE vehicle? No, you wouldn't. The Roadster's warranty will be void if you don't get your services performed on time, why should the Model S be any different?

Sweet! how does it attach? Just snap in where the old one did?

Where does Tesla Stand with Aftermarket Wheels

Its becoming a greater issue recently with more and more aftermarket rims showing up, but as of a few months ago, if you saw a car with aftermarket rims, and the owner was complaining of brake squeak, then Tesla wouldn't allow the rotors to be replaced under warranty. Due to some factors I could...

    Frunk Dent (Frustrating...)

ROCDOC It should not take this much force to close your frunk. Call into your local SC to see if they can perform any adjustments on it. It requires a firm yet gentle push but nothing absurd.

Where does Tesla Stand with Aftermarket Wheels

As long as you stay within the factory spec on the wheels, then its not so bad, I have seen some 285's on rear wheels that have been extremely light, however the rub. The downside, is if you start to complain of brake squeak, that is 100% on you to replace and is not covered under warranty if...

    Frunk Dent (Frustrating...)

The best place to close the frunk, is from where the two rubber bumpers you see on the plastic cover are, the SC showed me literature stating this. Tried to grab a copy of it but they wouldn't allow. You go one latch at a time, with your hands at those locations on the hood and you will not have...

    What would this sensor be?

Also that wiring right next to it is the speaker wires for premium audio.

    Rear Seat Belts Locking

The procedure that the Tech uses to install the updated seat belts and brackets is called a bulletin. So they are saying that installed it according to the directions supplied by Tesla.
  25. D

    "Modify rear arch liners"

When the vehicle goes into low mode for suspension its possible for some contact to exist, so trimming the liners prevents that from happening. An inspection of the brake lines is also performed, and if there are any signs of wear due to the rubbing, the brake line is replaced.

cubby removal - anyone know how?

To reinstall, you will need to pull out the slim trim piece that sits underneath the cubby that holds the top of the carpet in, that will allow you to see the two slots that the back clips go into, then it just pops up. Like a previous poster said though, Technicians need to get to the connector...

affects on MS's 12V Deep Cycle battery with aftermarket audio amps?

The DCDC will keep up with whatever draw you put on it, the problem you run into, is you will cause the battery to run through its cycles faster. The battery runs through all its lifetime cycles which is why they are needing to be replaced. The big question is, will digging into the electrical...

    Balloon sound getting substantially worse?

I can tell you right now, it is an expected noise and is considered normal.

Question about factory tinting of windshield glass

There is a UV film incorporated into the windshield, however it is not a tint that can be removed.
  30. D

    Balloon sound getting substantially worse?

Its the sound of HV going through what equates to a solenoid in the pack. Consider it normal because that is what the Service Center will tell you.

    Aftermarket Model S Wheel options

As long as you guys are cool with tons of creaking when you come to a stop (which, with an aftermarket rim, will not be covered under any warranty) the aftermarket rims can be pretty good, however a lot of owners go too wide in the rear and end up rubbing horribly.
  32. D

    Squeaky fan?

There is no current fix for the fan squeaking as it spins down. Those fans run near continuously and they just make a little bit of noise. Nothing really to be concerned about.

    12-volt battery: Proactive fix (Replacement)

Wouldn't recommend dealing with the 12v since you're right next to HV components. The battery is deep cycle, so it runs its built in amount of cycles, then its done. If Tesla decides the battery needs changing then it needs changing, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.
