    Tesla Model S Hardware Upgrades

Everyone -- I've done some searching online but I've only found opinion articles. is there a place where factory installed possible upgrades to the model S are shown? I've scoured the Tesla Website and can't seem to find them. I know of a few -- AP1 to AP2 upgrade, 3g to LTE upgrade, and...

    Charging at Hotels

This weekend I'm traveling to Asheville, NC from DC. We're staying at a new hotel downtown called the AC Hotel by Marriott. The web site says that it has two complementary changing stations in the garage. I called to see what the connection type was and the person I talked to was a bit...

Why don't people compare range while comparing with ICE cars?

I have a friend that ordered a model 3 early. They lived in an apartment building that had a charger in their garage. They just bought a condo with no parking at all -- only onstreet. they are betting on reverse charging. Meaning they can charge in a garage at work and then let it sit...

Why don't people compare range while comparing with ICE cars?

um, because for ICE cars there's a gas station every 7 feet as you drive down the highway. For us, "refueling" requires a bit more strategy.

    How often do you charge?

It's not like charging a phone where you charge when its low. The computer is very sophisticated and manages the battery condition. Leaving it plugged in allows that to happen. I plug it in whenever it is parked if possible and allow the computer to do its work. I normally charge to about...

Here is why I'm getting the bare bones 35k T3

This hasn't been my experience. I'm about 1 1/2 years in to my 85D MS and I've always found it is about the timing of the trip. We just did a trip from Washington DC to Winston Salem NC and back over the weekend. There are 4 superchargers on that route (woodbridge, glenn allen, south hill...

Cabin Overheat Protection Could Prevent The Worst Day of Your Life

Is there a way to change the temperature setting to lower it? On days when we are in and out of the house in the car, it would be nice to have it set to 90 or something that would let the car cool down more quickly when you turn on the air conditioning from the app.

A flight instructor teaches Tesla Autopilot

A good post. I'm a pilot as well and when learning autopilot I was constantly reminded that its a tool like every other instrument or piece of equipment. And all equipment is failable. Its there to make our workload easier and you're still in charge.

    short commute and charging

I did a lot of reading on this when I got my 85D a year and 1/2 ago. There were people posting about battery degradation and chemical properties and all sorts. there was one guy in another forum who actually bought a second tesla and took it apart to understand the battery configuration and...

    Supercharger - Warsaw, NC (closed)

Everyone -- My wife stopped at the Warsaw NC charger on the way back to DC from Wilmington and had a horrible experience. While charging, she attempted to enter the Quality Inn to use the restroom. She was told that the restroom was out of order -- and by coincidence it was out of order 2...

Charging beyond 90% and long term effects...

What I've always read (and I've read several enthusiastic tomes about this topic) is charge what you need and leave it plugged in. If you only drive 30 or 40 miles in a day, charge to 50% of the battery and plug it in each time. When you need to drive more than that, increase the charge on...

Has anyone charged up at a gas station?

There's a Sheetz in Altoona that I've used twice. Chademo. Once successfully. the second time the charger was broken.

Does anyone know of a 50' 14-30r extension cable?

buy the 14-50 80 amp extension cord and then the appropriate dryer adapter. I can 2 of them -- one for each mother in laws house.

Don't skip Superchargers on long trips

I have skipped superchargers and its worked sometimes and not worked others. One time on a trip from DC to blacksburg va, it called for a 5 minute stop at Staunton and my math said I could make it to the next one. I ended up sitting at a Nissan dealer for 30 min topping off. My advice, be...

Don't skip Superchargers on long trips

I use EVTripPlanner a lot and I find it a decent guide. I almost never get the route that it planned when I punch the destination into the car because the algorithms are different and tesla's computer takes traffic into account.

    Tesla to J1772 Adapter?

What I would do is take down the tesla HPWC and put up a more standard plug connection (i.e. NEMA 14-50) that you could adapt both the model S mobile connector and the 500e connector to. You can sell the HPWC on ebay. You could then plug a single extension cord into the NEMA plug and then...

Have any owners used a 110v outlet to charge your Model S?

I have used dryer plugs at various houses. I carry 2 different dryer adapters and an 80amp extension cord. They work much better than plugging into the wall. It just takes too long.

Next SuperCharger to open in Virginia?

looks to me like wytheville will be next. With lexington open, wytheville is the next logical to cover the 81 corridor. There's a construction photo in another thread that shows them nearly finished. possibly open by christmas.

    Supercharger - Wytheville, VA

Any locals out there know when this will open? I'm planning a trip this winter from dc to asheville and this would definitely make the drive more fun vs. going south through NC. - - - Updated - - - fantastic news. Thanks for posting everyone! This solves lots of trouble along the I-81...
