    My sailboat battery project!

I've decided to upgrade the battery pack on my sailboat! I bought four "sheets" from a salvaged Model S 85 battery pack, and have set about fitting them into my boat, to run the "house" electrical needs (lights, refrigeration, inverters, etc.) If you're at all interested in the project, take...

Car warns that front truck is open but it is actually closed

Yes. It's happened about a dozen times for me, but it goes away almost immediately. The most frustrating part is that it will disable the cruise/autopilot without any warning. I haven't noticed that it correlates to heat, but anything is possible. I called my service center and asked them to...

    Dual chargers

I visited a relative in Charlottesville, VA this past weekend. If I didn't have dual chargers, I would have had to spend 3+ hours at a public charger in order to make it back to the Woodbridge SC. Instead, I charged for an hour.

    Ludicrous update part update?

I was just proactively contacted by Tesla to schedule an appointment to replace a part used in the ludicrous update. Does anyone know what this part might be, or why it might need to be replaced? Has anyone else been contacted about this?

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

Update: I've gotten my car back from the SC in Devon, PA. These guys were great about it. Turned out due to SoC, my car was actually the second one that they'd done. I'm pretty happy with the bump in speed -- especially for passing.

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

Update: my upgrade is done, and they're recharging the car. Tomorrow morning, they're going to do some tests, and then i should be able to pick it up -- by noon at the latest. I've heard that my car is the first to be done at the Devon, PA service center. If so, I'm happy to let them take...

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

My upgrade is scheduled for 2/8 at the Devon, PA SC. They told me the same thing... Run it down low, bring it in first thing in the morning and it'll be done the next day. They're giving me a loaner while I wait.

Stop the Press! Tesla announces REAL HP numbers for P85D and P90L

I purchased 10/14, and took their specs at face value. I'd be fine with 1) an aknowledgement of the problem 2) corrections to the marketing materials (mostly done, now) and 3) a reasonable credit towards a future purchase.

Anyone have pics of the black multi-pattern seats?

I'm probably one of the three people that bought a p85d with textile seats. I love them. I'm really not a fan of leather seats - both the way they wear over time and how they feel. I'll take some pictures for you in the morning, in the daylight, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

P85D motor hp controversy starts also to show in U.S. media

Hey, bud. I really appreciate your passion on this issue. I do. That said, it's not really fair to fault people for not seeing your post (or the article), or for after reading it, not taking it as the gospel. I would hope that you would appreciate that to the vast majority of the people in...

P85D motor hp controversy starts also to show in U.S. media

It's pretty straightforward, really. At the announcement (and really, for months past the delivery of the first cars), nobody knew about how they arrived at their motor power numbers -- there was no indication as to which standard or testing methodology might be in play. With an electric...

Letter To Elon Musk Regarding P85D Horsepower – Discussion Thread

It seems a bit to me to be a distinction without a difference: In neither case does it appear that the car is making it's rated number in the field. I would think that we're beginning to see the same way, just about different numbers. ;)

    P85D Ludicrous Pre-Order Upgrade Available 9/25/15

Actually, JonG and I are saying the same thing with respect to the 85kw packs's potential limitations after upgrade. His description is much more thorough.

P85D motor hp controversy starts also to show in U.S. media

Really? That's the only acceptable form of recourse? I'm not really that guy. More likely that I'll just never again be the first to buy one of their products. ("Fool me twice," and whatnot.)

    P85D Ludicrous Pre-Order Upgrade Available 9/25/15

Let me take a stab at unpacking this, then. The motor used to be the performance limiting part. Then they put two of them into the car, and around the same time, they figured out how to get more out of them by screwing around with the power electronics (the increases we've been seeing in...

P85D motor hp controversy starts also to show in U.S. media

Exactly. The way I see it, all the talk about the motors is really missing the point: the parts that aren't allowing the motors to reach their rated levels of output (and thereby preventing the car as a whole from reaching the spec'd performance, for however brief a time) are the 1300A fuse...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

I can't help but wonder just how much of a factor purchase date is in people's opinions on this matter? I'd be willing to wager that the majority of the folks that are moody are early buyers, and that it trails off to "stop whining" with purchases after say, April. Being a very early buyer, I...

P85D motor hp controversy starts also to show in U.S. media

Naw, sport. I get the difference between "potential" and "actual". The thing is, though, that but for a component or two, the actual could just about achieve the potential. The motors can make their numbers if fed the right amount of juice - we can all agree on this? - they're just not able to...

P85D motor hp controversy starts also to show in U.S. media

I love my car. I phoned in my upgrade request for my order from an S85 to a P85D on 10/11, the day after the event. I took delivery on 12/29. I know about software and electricity... lithium-ion batteries, discharge characteristics, motor power. I'm not a dope, and I didn't expect that the...

For whatever reason, they've decided to add a footnote on the order page about the 1ft rollout on the P* models, and a link to the (motor trends) testing methodology. I hadn't seen it mentioned on this thread. - - - Updated - - - Rereading that, the wording is a bit strange to me. The use...

    v7 UI Overhaul

You're overlooking the "read" side of the operation. Filling with a solid color doesn't require reading from a local texture buffer, or worse, from main memory. Depending on how the graphics chip is designed, copying a texture can take quite a bit longer than filling with a solid color.

    Firmware 6.2

    I received .71 yesterday. I have a late december P85D. I reset my trip B every time I receive a software update. On ~2800 miles of .36, I averaged exactly 300 wh/mi. My commute is 50 miles round trip (30 freeway / 10 major roads / 10 back-roads and hills) and is always ~280 wh/mi, (+/- ~10...

the carseat is in and out of the back of our tesla. we bought one of those foam core bathroom mats, folded it in half, and it's a perfect fit under the carseat. no matter how hard we wrench that carseat down, no marks of any kind are left on the seats when we remove it.

Website/Design Studio Update - Twin Chargers no longer available from factory

Dual charger option discontinued? Periodically, I reprice my car using the online configurator. Today, I noticed a $2000 discrepancy. When ticking through the options to make sure I had them all set the same, I noticed that in the "charging" section, the option for dual chargers has been...

    Damaged Charge Port

My p85d's charge port was kind of posessed - opening and closing on it's own, and reporting that it was open when it wasn't. I took it in for service and it was replaced. It would have been same-day, but they kept it overnight due to having to source the part. I was super pleased with the...

    Firmware 6.1

No range mode. The car was warmed up while plugged in at the SC, and I drove home with the climate control, butt-heater and steering-wheel heater on. Most of the trip, I was in the 260-280 range, with the last hill-climb finishing me out at 300. I can't wait to do my normal commute tomorrow.

    Firmware 6.1

Something is different. I just picked up my P85D from the service center. Part of the service included an update to .139. The drive home was cold and uneventful, other than a notably lower power consumption. ~14mi, -6C, steep hills, freeways, it was a good mix of road. 300wh/mi, vs...

    P85D vs. P85 Efficiency Testing

    P85D vs. P85 Efficiency Testing

This was the first thing that I looked at. There's definitely a three wire unused connector, but I was unable to sense more than 10.5v on any combination of the wires and none were able to drive the 650. My guess is that they're for a sensor / mic / etc. that we don't have.

    P85D vs. P85 Efficiency Testing

Is that the blackvue 650? I just installed mine (in the front) yesterday. If you pull the door sill trim on the passenger side, you'll find many good sources of constant 12v.

I took delivery of #65746 today in Devon, PA. Everyone was stupendously nice, even when my two year old blew a fuse during the walk through. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had received both the matching yacht floor (I skipped the interior package) and the heated steering wheel...
