    Foglights Question (post model changes)

Both came with the tech package when my car was delivered in Dec. Or at least my car has both... I guess I can't say for sure that one or the other options weren't standard.

EPA Range for 70D 240 miles - does it make sense?

No. Example: Tesla may have upped the battery to 70 kWh by using fewer cells of the same type used in the S85. 13 or 14 modules of the same cells used in the 85 cells get you to 70 kWh.

Why is the warranty limited to 50K miles?

Might depend upon where you live. The posting above yours says BMW offers "Limited coverage for defects in materials and workmanship for 4 years/50,000 miles from the original in-service date, whichever comes first. Repairs will only be made at authorized BMW centers using Original BMW Parts."...

    Loss of map data

On 6.1 holding both thumb wheels until the T logo was displayed on the instrument panel (about 20 or 30 seconds) caused both to reboot. If you let go of the thumb wheels after the 17' console goes black I believe only the console restarts. I assume it is the same way on 6.2.

Why isn't it possible to set cruise control to follow speed limit?

It is an ambiguous statement, not an incorrect statement. The phrase "to follow the speed limit" can be read as "change speeds to match speed limit changes". It can also be read as "change speed to match the current speed limit". I get in trouble for using phrases like that all the time --...

Will Auto-Pilot (Steering) Be Delayed Due To Legal Restrictions? (NY Times Article)

no other automaker has a car that can drive on its own "on-ramp to off-ramp", as the model S is going to be able to do. Marketing BS. Stop listening to what Elon says and pay attention to what the car actually does. The cars being built today can't match the sensor array of a Mercedes S...

    Cruise control denied

Mentioned several times under the general subject "TACC doesn't work" in the 6.1 release threads. Yup, it doesn't work when the seatbelt is unlatched.

    Brake and battery coolant fluid

The typical failure mode is the formation of vapor pockets when the fluid gets too hot. The vapor displaces fluid (which can cause lock-up, but not always). Vapor is compressible. When brakes are applied the pedal may go all the way to the floor (compressing the vapor) without applying the...

    Brake and battery coolant fluid

Brake fluid is hygroscopic. When the absorbed moisture hits about 4% of the total volume the fluid needs to be replaced unless you like the idea of brake fade due to the presence of air bubbles from water boiling out at the high temperatures that can be generated in brake use. How long it...

    CPO program

Uhhh, has that changed since the initial 6.1 versions? Push the button to turn cruise/TACC on. Pull the lever toward you to enable TACC --- OR --- Lift the lever up or depress the lever down to enable normal cruise at your current speed. Pretty sure worked that way when I first got 6.1...

    Firmware 6.1

My December '14 delivery S85 guestimated the update would take 1:40. Since I wasn't going to use the car for 3-4 hours I said go ahead and update now. I don't know how long the update actually took.

Model S USB and power ports

Pay attention next time you close the door after exiting the car. Displays go black, music turns off, car shuts down. I don't believe plugging the car in changes anything.

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

My three week old S85 does not do that. I get a "stop" indication on the front sensors when entering my garage due to close passage of the garage door and a center post. I get it again front and rear when the car is almost to the spot where I'll put it in park. It has never gone into park by...

Autopilot features in new S85 - not working ?

Please define "does not work". What did you do? What do you expect to happen? Right now if you drive faster than the speed limit and pass a speed limit sign an image of the sign will show up in the middle of the speedo. If you are going faster than 30 MPH on a multi lane road and drift too...

    Tesla moments

For years at the end of a drive the sequence was put the car in park... depress emergency brake... remove key. Now when I get where I'm going I press a button and then sit slightly confused because I'm sure I've forgotten something :) Wonder how long that's going to last.

Elon Musk deletes twitter posts about P85D/85D efficiency increases

Elon Musk deletes twitter posts about P85D/85D efficiency increases

What you see or don't see is irrelevant. It is what the SEC sees that is important. The SEC has strict rules about announcements and how they are released. Using twitter and facebook is OK as of April of 2013 PROVIDED investors have been alerted about which social media will be used to...

    P85D Musings

No. Not an issue on my S85. Maybe I drive slower in situations where the chimes are likely to sound than you do. I find the sensors helpful in positioning the car in the right spot in my garage.

Uhh, what negative comment? I didn't see one. I took the "Yes, Virginia" part to be a take off on this famous editorial in the 1897 New York Sun newspaper. Virginia was eight year old Virginia O'Hanlan. See Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Map Magnification

Thanks. I missed it in the release notes. Alas, the large font is still too small for my wife. I guess better bi-focals for driving are in her future.

    Map Magnification

The 5.9 manual says Note: To change the size of the font used todisplay the map’s labels, touch Controls >Settings > Apps > Maps & Navigation > MapMagnification. I don't see that option in the 6.0 software that my car came with. Am I blind or did it go away?

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

The carpet gets dirty. No big deal. About 80% of my garage has carpet. Not my thing, but it was epoxied to the garage floor by the previous owners of the house. Parking cars and motorcycles in the garage for the last 18 years hasn't yet destroyed the carpet -- but it is plenty stained...

Model S Order & Delivery Tracker

My MS85 "should be ready for delivery between 12/18-12/20" according to my DS. Why does the word "should" in that sentence scare me :) I'm picking it up at the factory.

Any plans for 4G on the MS?

Lucky you. In '08 I paid about $1800 to have my '01 E-class updated. On the plus side that included Mercedes Teleaid for as long as I own the car. I think Mercedes was charging $200+/year for the Teleaid service. That saved me $1200+ to date which makes the cost of the upgrade a bit more...

    Brake Light Animation?

Acceleration is defined as a change in velocity over some time interval. Going down hill at a constant velocity is not acceleration. Going downhill at a constant speed, on the other hand, might include some acceleration. Speed is not velocity. Speed is a scalar value. Velocity is a vector...

Model S Order & Delivery Tracker

And mine -- 63548 -- isn't. Just another bullet to point out to those who keep asking for VIN that the VIN doesn't mean much when it comes to production. Given that my delivery guestimate is Dec 15-30 (pick up at the factory) I'm hoping mine will enter production some time next week.

    Tracking P85D delivery thread

Hiding VINs and blanking out license plates in images is mostly done in a mistaken belief that you are somehow more secure. Not true, but if it makes people feel better there is no harm. One real reason to hide such data on web forums is if you think your real name is super secret and that no...

Have the brakes on the P85D been upgraded to match the power?

Assume for the sake of argument that you can lock the brakes in zero time. The car with more speed will still take longer to stop. Bigger brakes don't help in that situation. If you are going faster you will have to brake earlier or miss the turn. If (and I don't know this... I won't get...

Have the brakes on the P85D been upgraded to match the power?

Huh? Braking is about traction. Can the current brakes trigger the ABS system? If so you've got enough braking power. More won't help.

Drove a brand new loaner!!! (I didn't like driver assist)

On my test ride the car read a 45 MPH sign on an off ramp while I was on a 65 MPH section of the freeway. Minor, not even to the level of an annoyance. More of an "isn't that interesting". I purposely drifted toward the shoulder to feel the lane assist. As noted above it is about the same...
