Supercharger - Las Vegas, NV - Tivoli Village

A new urban Supercharger just opened in Las Vegas at Tivoli Village, 400 South Rampart Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89145, as reported to the local Facebook group.

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

July for sure, but end of May would require a small miracle at this point. With Hawthorne open, you can skip Tonopah on the way down anyway.

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Stopped by last night. It looks like the whole Pocket Park area is fenced off for construction. The superchargers still have a ways to go.

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Update: According to someone at the Town Office, construction will start next week.

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

If they do start construction by the end of March, then I'd say you've got at least a 50/50 chance. It might come down to the wire though, so you'll need alternate plans.

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Update: Talked to the town manager. The design work for the Supercharger was just completed last week. Apparently Tesla needed some feedback or participation from NV Energy on the design, which took some time. They are now hoping/expecting to start construction by the end of March...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

The same minutes make it clear why agreement was not reached with NV Energy on the L2 charger. NV Energy was proposing to pay $30k, whereas the town thought it would cost closer to $100k and made a counter-offer along those lines. I have no idea why it would cost so much, but apparently they...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

From the minutes of the town board meeting on Jan. 13: "Tesla is hopeful to be breaking ground by the end of February." Meanwhile the state's Electric Highway L2 charger appears to be a no-go: "NV Energy could not come to a resolution."

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

The minutes [PDF] from the Dec. 9 town board meeting have been posted. I'll say this for the board, they are cautious and try to look at all the angles. They have been consistently less favorable toward the state's L2 charger, mostly because the town only gets a one-time grant for the L2...

    Firmware 7.1

Because of the Solar City thing, or ... ? Tesla is not that petty, and they do have the gigafactory here. Nevada has been pretty friendly to Tesla and autonomous driving. Still waiting for 7.1 here. The current version of Summon sounds pretty useless to me, but I expect it will be part of...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Update: The town board approved the contract last week and sent the documents back to Tesla for signature. Construction probably won't start until February due to the weather. I would think a March or April opening is likely, possibly May if there are delays.

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

... and still no progress on the supercharger. The site is dead and gathering dust.

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

The most direct route won't be open until we have Beatty, Tonopah and either Hawthorne or Fallon.

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

When Tonopah opens in the spring, Las Vegas - Beatty - Tonopah - Gardnerville - Reno/Tahoe will be possible in an 85. I think the Lone Pine route, which is a little longer, is only necessary if you don't have 85 kWh to work with.

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

Checked again last night. The site looks like it hasn't been touched in a month. Light poles still not up, only 6/8 signs in place ... completely dead. After I backed in, a bored security guard came over to inform me that those are not parking spots. I don't think he'd seen a Tesla before...

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

Still not open. It looks like it hasn't been touched in 3 weeks. No lights, no power.

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Update: The city has received comments back from the DA, but in the meantime they've also received something to review from NV Energy about installing the state's Electric Highway charger in town (not sure if it'll be at the same location or not). They are sort of bundling the two proposals...

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

The site is not open yet. Construction is done except for the light poles that still have to go up. Pavement striping is complete and the charging cables are on the pedestals now. The construction tape has been taken down so it's possible to drive up and plug in, but there's no power. Not...

Annoyed with the Tesla app..."Turn On" climate requires two attempts

Let me brighten up your Monday with some good news. It's actually just a lag in communication between the phone and the car. Try this: 1. Turn on climate control from the app 2. Wait a few seconds for the button to turn back to "Turn On." This means climate control is off, right? Wrong! 3...

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

The example he gave was a parking structure where a skateboarder damaged some nearby concrete. He was blamed and had to fix it. He may also have heard back from Tesla about the picture I posted earlier with the beer bottle. That's unfortunate since it was near but not really on their site and...

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

Fresh pictures from the site. The good news: Construction is pretty much done. The bad news: The site is not expected to open for another 3 weeks. I talked to the contractor working on the site. He's staying at the hotel right there and saw me taking pictures. He came over to ask (nicely)...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Tonopah to/from the Gardnerville SC is possible in any 85, which means the Vegas to Reno/Tahoe route will be open (for many of us) as soon as Tonopah opens. Hawthorne and Fallon will open up a faster route to Reno, saving about an hour, but won't really make a difference going to South Lake...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

I forgot to mention one detail from my conversation with Ms. Mulkerns. She said they wanted to get the supercharger built before the weather gets "squirrelly" (I think that's the word she used). The time frame for a response from the DA's office is unpredictable, but if things can't get done...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Looks like I hit the post button just in time. :) Well there it is, I think we have the probable address of the Pocket Park and (hopeful) future supercharger location: 201 N. Main St., Tonopah, NV 89049

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

I think you're right. The picture above is the old firehouse. As the minutes you found indicate, the new firehouse and pocket park were built on the former grounds of the L&L Motel, also known as the Pink Motel. Interestingly, as you mentioned, billionaire Howard Hughes married a Hollywood...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Update: I talked to Chris Mulkerns. She said the DA's office is reviewing the agreement. No idea when that might be done because "they're pretty busy." They are looking to install the SC at "a park downtown called the pocket park." I couldn't find the park on Google Maps but according to...

    Supercharger - Tonopah, NV

Nice find. One of the petitioners, Joe Westerlund, is the Utilities Manager at Tonopah Public Utilities (located at 102 Burro Ave, Tonopah, NV 89049). Link: Town of Tonopah Nevada - Tonopah Public Utilities The other petitioner, Chris Mulkers, is the town's Administrative Manager. Link...

The alien center is just a tourist trap with alien-themed merchandise. The cafe is sub-par. Did not try the alien brothel. You know what they say: Once you go green, you never get clean.

Thanks. I was surprised to see it so far along. Two weeks ago there was not even a hint of construction.

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

Eight stalls. That's a huge installation for the middle of nowhere, but there's a significant risk of ICEing from the Motel 6 next door. I hope the signage is good. Guess where the U-Haul would have parked if the supercharger hadn't been blocked off?
  33. C

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

Wait a minute, what do we have here? I didn't see any sign of the state's Electric Highway L2 charger, and there was nobody around to ask when either one would be finished. But still ... the gateway to Death Valley will soon be open!

TACC with 7.0 - unexpected slowdowns

To clarify: The radar glitch could be due to TACC's increased sensitivity to stopped cars. It could be that some arrangement of roadside objects returns a radar and/or visual signature that looks like a stopped car. This could be the kind of problem they were originally trying to avoid when...

TACC with 7.0 - unexpected slowdowns

I've experienced this and I have a couple of different hypotheses to add to the mix: 1. My car also slows down at a specific spot on a nearby road. It's perfectly straight and there's nothing there that would cause a slowdown, but it speeds up immediately after I pass a large pole on my...

    Autopilot is already improving.

The car isn't supposed to take the exit, ever. If the lane splits, the car is supposed to keep with the current highway. That is what it's currently learning to do. If you want to take the exit, you get into an exit-only lane or you take over. If you want the car to slow down, you press down...

Trip Planner in V7 - Any Improvements?

It is way too soon to draw that conclusion. I'm guessing there will be huge improvements to the trip planner in v7.2 if not sooner.

We have been given a glimpse into the future: Tesla wins in a landslide!

    Autopilot is already improving.

Yes. I happened to notice a sudden slowdown in the network so I looked at the router statistics. The timing, bandwidth and network segment used all resembled the 7.0 download last week, although this one didn't last as long. I don't have wk057's sophisticated setup, so I don't know what it...

    Autopilot is already improving.

I did see a significant download come over my network last night in the middle of the night. I would estimate it very roughly at 30-35 MB. I thought maybe it was a bugfix update to 7.0, but the car didn't ask me to install an update. Could this be a stealth GPS and/or AP algorithm update...

    Firmware 7.0

I tried some of the suggestions here for setting TACC + autosteer. These are the results I got when TACC and AP were off, AP was available and a previous TACC speed had been set. 1) Short pull twice - activates autosteer and sets TACC to previous speed. 2) Long pull + short pull - activates...

    Firmware 7.0

I experienced something like this, but it turned out I just didn't understand how the system worked. Not sure if this applies to your situation. If I'm driving along the highway without cruise or autosteer and I pull back twice on the stalk, I expect both autosteer and TACC to engage, and for...

    Firmware 7.0

A few autopilot quirks I noticed after 300+ miles: 1. If you're on a 2-lane highway and you signal to "change lanes" into the oncoming traffic lane, the car will do it but only if you're in a passing zone. If the car sees a solid yellow center line on your side, it won't budge. Pretty smart...

Supercharger - Beatty, NV (live 2016/2/9)

While testing out autopilot (awesome feature) I drove up to Death Valley Nut & Candy. Sad to say, there is still no sign of any construction.

    Climate control algorithm V7.0

Do you have any more info on this? Did the device have a name? Don't know if I need it yet, but I'm definitely noticing the increased AC on/off cycling. Maybe they are trying to run it only at optimum speed? All that cycling seems like it would be inefficient and hard on the system.
  46. C

    Firmware 7.0

Interesting. Are you sure it wasn't just tracking the solid line on the other side of the lane? I know a lot of I-5 is only two lanes. My car is not the only one that has had a problem picking up dots/turtles. Maybe it's a matter of contrast. By any chance were you on dark/fresh pavement?
  47. C

Does anyone keep their hands on the wheel when on AP?

I avoid this by not using AP on roads with oncoming traffic. I don't trust it nearly that much. To each his own I guess.
  48. C

How Satisfied Are You With Autopilot?

Don't know whether the software has a problem picking up yellow lines, but it's a little strange if true. Don't the interstates have a solid yellow line on the median side?
  49. C

Someone had to do it... (Autopilot stunt)

You think the danger was high at 18 mph on a closed course with someone ready at the parking brake? I'd guess people are taking bigger risks with AP right now, hundreds of times a day, just by driving with it.
  50. C

Someone had to do it... (Autopilot stunt)

It was really the voice scrambling that made me LOL. Cool proof of concept though, and you did it just about as responsibly as humanly possible. I wonder if Tesla will change it to require a driver in the seat.
