Observed public perception of the Model 3 being the inferior budget model coming from 2 Tesla family

I live in a pretty Tesla heavy town and honestly people are flipping their sh!t when they see the 3. I've gotten more excitement and psootove comments on this car than any other I've owned. My friend with a P100D X was more excited about my car coming in then he was about his own.

Vinyl cutout files for Model 3

I already cut some of my own, using a ruler and some fancy eyeballing and got pretty close but would certainly appreciate having those files, as it looks like you got a little closer on the cupholder area.

What do you dislike most about your Model 3?

On the whole, this car is the best I've ever owned, easily eclipsing my tuned BMW M3 in terms of performance, fun and refinement. There are just a few minor quibbles that really don't matter all that much. - I wish the frunk had a power close. Yes it would have added some complexity and cost...

    $78k PM3 AWD

Not terribly surprised by the price and performance, as it's very much in line with the full range of the competition. If you look at a base model BMW 320i, that starts at $35k (though performance is no where near the Model 3) and if you go up to an M3 Sedan with the performance, driver...

    Auto pilot doesn’t detect deer

The list of things that AutoPilot is expected to detect: cars, trucks. The list of things that AutoPilot is NOT expected to detect: every other physical thing in the universe. There, that should clear it up.:p

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

That was in an E46 BMW M3. Luckily at an autox there was nothing to hit other than a couple cones.

    How’s the creep

I'm just gonna say that if you have just a half inch tolerance, someday, at some point, for some reason your garage door is totally gonna rip your rear bumper off. You'll either mess up, your parking mat/light/tennis ball/whatever will slightly miscalibrate and that will be game over. No way...

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

That is definitely a shame and glad that everyone is ok. While anecdotal, I had an instance of this years ago. Now, I have raced cars at an amateur level for years and was actually at an autox when this happened. I, for all my experience in driving cars fast, truly and 100% thought that I had...

    Model 3's Wi-Fi connection should coming soon(pic)

Why would the Model 3 would be any different security wise from the Model S and X though? Seems like that would be all over the Tesla-doom news outlets if the new car was much less secure. The Short Sellers would have a field day!

Model 3 at Intense Autocross Race

I did serious AutoX for about 5 years and had good cars, but thinking of the instant power out of corners that the Tesla would give you...man....that would be just awesome. I can recall so many times when I was yelling "COME ON!!!" to the car, waiting for the revs to get up there and give me the...

    Model 3 console wrap

I'm going to be getting the whole car wrapped in a 3M 1080 metallic gloss dark gray/blue, but was considering color matching the center console. Not sure how that would look, might go with black. I have a vinyl cutter and can whip up custom stuff quickly so I might experiment a little, just have...

    VIN Assignment

Heh, yep been collecting Oakley stuff since '93 or so. I was able to snag "xmetal" on a variety of forums and emails before the internet was cool. :D Can't wait to get the 3, been wanted a Tesla since the original roadster!

If You Won Kimbal's Model 3, What Would You Do With It?

My own Model 3 should be here soon (fingers crossed) so I would definitely add this one to the garage so that I would never have to discuss with my wife who gets to use the Tesla.

    Lowering the Model 3

Just like to point out that this method is like the worst possible way to lower a car, because you are taking away the mechanical ability of the spring to perform its job by pre-compressing coils. Putting a properly designed multi-rate spring to lower is far better and probably safer too, as the...

    Lowering the Model 3

I don't think anyone in this thread is talking about slamming the Model 3 and doing crazy camber. We are talking about a very mild drop to tighten up the feel and visually decrease the wheel gap, which are very very different things. A mild drop, done with good hardware, can increase road feel...

    VIN Assignment

So, dumb question. Where, exactly, will the VIN display in the account portal? Will it appear in place of the reservation number, or somewhere else...? It's not like I will NOT see it or whatever, once it appears, but frankly I don't like surprises and prefer to be prepared. :D

Shocked by the new Roadster rolling out of the Tesla Semi!

If I had the money, I'd reserve a base one on the spot. Sigh. At least I have a friend that is considering it, maybe I'll get to drive one for a few minutes someday. :D

What is your primary reason for wanting to own a Model 3?

I have wanted a Tesla since the Roadster and have simply never been able to afford one until the Model 3. I believe in their mission, like their approach, I look up to Elon as a visionary and want to support their goals. Plus I love tech, gadgets, batteries, solar, screens, etc so a Tesla...

Who's going to Plasti-Dip their car? Post photos here...

Yes, absolutely. I did 7-8 coats on all my cars and was able to peel it all quite easily (with the exception of my BMW where there was a hotspot on the hood directly over the engine that took a little solvent to get off).
  27. xmetal

Who's going to Plasti-Dip their car? Post photos here...

Any decent wrap job is going to be thousands of dollars, and thanks to a DIY garage here in town I was able to dip 3 cars for probably $500 total. I could also do it myself, and would not be able to vinyl wrap a car on my own.

Who's going to Plasti-Dip their car? Post photos here...

I used a paint gun (specifically the one from dipyourcar.com). We tape off the major parts of the car like the wheels and windows (mainly to save material). You can spray right over the lights and smaller elements and then just peel off that area so that you get a really crisp break. Generally...

Who's going to Plasti-Dip their car? Post photos here...

I've dipped a few cars and will probably do a coat on the model 3. I did the matte black on my BMW first and then did a new custom mix the was alternately black/purple depending on the light. Our beachmobile Mazda is pearlescent gold at the moment. Done well, with decent equipment, Plastidip can...

    Dash Cams (2 channel)

So, reading up on dashcams and specifically the power angle, I have two questions that I think I know the answer to but wanted to confirm: 1. It looks like using the OBD-II port for power is common, but that port will always be ON in the Tesla, if the car is on or off, right? Therefore, your...

Aero covers, or Spikes (No Covers) Pics.

I was leaning toward the 19's at first solely due to look, but now that I've seen the aero more, and learned that the covers come off and those (pretty decent looking) 18's are underneath, it's a total no-brainer to go with the aero wheels. I will most likely run without the covers most of the...

    Cost to recharge Model 3

I don't have a Tesla yet, but have had a Leaf for over 2 years and honestly, I struggle to see the cost reflected in my monthly power bill. Sure, it's there, but with a family of 4 in the constant-AC-running SW Florida with constant clothes-washing and dish-washing, electric hot water and...

[Speculation] Production 18" Wheels without Aero Cover

I had very wide 19's on my BMW M3 and while they looked great and handled well on the AutoX, generally they didn't do much for me. They were really expensive to replace and potholes were a killer. I'm going to go with the 18's this time and probably will just swap on some sport springs to drop...

Guesses on "token of appreciation" for line waiters tweeted by Elon Musk

I think that if Tesla wanted to give something away that a.) wasn't a physical item they had to produce and b.) didn't hurt the bottom line much than the most obvious choice would be a little extra free supercharging for some period of time. That would not cost them anything in the short term...

    Model 3 Potential in Autocross

I've raced autox quite a lot over the years (with tuned Subaru, Integra and M3) and after getting my first EV one of my main thoughts was, "Holy cow this would be awesome to autox." While heavy, the instant torque and throttle responsiveness, along with low center of gravity of the Model 3 would...

Lowered suspension or just bigger wheels?

AFAIK it's been rather definitive that there is no air suspension. The larger wheels will have tires with less sidewall, to get the same total diameter, so the most likely explanation is different springs. I've put aftermarket springs on most of my cars over the years and I'm sure there will be...

To Long Range or Not to Long Range...

My wife and I pondered this a lot and decided that the base model is fine. We can do everything we'd need with the 220mi range and $9000 will get a hell of a lot of rentals for the (maybe) once per year we might need more. Yes, I'd like the extra speed and range would be "nice" but totally not...

Nothing very special about 0-60 times?

All of know is that my Leaf, which is pathetically slow in the 0-60 specs, (I’ve seen some publications say 10sec) will take darn near any car in city driving from a stoplight. Yes, I may be paying more attention to the lights than your average zombie driver but I’ve left all kinds of fast cars...

    Model 3 wheel options

I like more sporty, open wheels so would definitely take the first one here. A card form factor will be awesome, it will slip in the pocket along with the wallet and won't create a bulge or be something rattling around in my pocket. Awesome. I also have faith that Tesla has thought about this for at least a couple minutes and didn't come up with something that only...
