    HPWC Burned Up (Yikes!)

Got a call back from Tesla Service this morning. They are sending a tech tomorrow to drop off a new HPWC and to do an unrelated proactive service bulletin on the car. ( The Service Advisor had the picture from this forum in front of him... ) The garage has a NEMA 10-50R outlet on a seperate...

    HPWC Burned Up (Yikes!)

The charger is set to 80A, but I charge the car on 30-40A. (Usually 30A) Bought the HPWC so I could get a quick charge if I needed too. I've only once ran it anywhere close to 80A and that was the first week I got the car just to see how quick that charge goes. Tesla support called back, they...

    HPWC Burned Up (Yikes!)

No lightning storms or anything like that near me all week. It must have gone out between Sunday and Wed. Car now charging on the wall plug (sloooooowwwlllyyy) and I've left the breaker off. I did call tesla this morning , and again once I saw this.. waiting for a callback still.

    HPWC Burned Up (Yikes!)

My charge cycle was interrupted 2 days in a row. I unplugged it and replugged it in the AM and everything seemed fine. ( but called Tesla to have them check the car out ) Just came back from work and figured I'd crack open the HPWC (Yes I flipped the breaker off first) because I thought I...

    Firmware 6.2

I've had the TC activate on dry pavement in the past before ( dry pavement, light acceleration, TC kicked in). There was also another poster a few weeks back with the same symptom. My code rev at the time was .162 (I think). Saw it once, never seen it since.

    Firmware 6.2

Well I just experienced the blind sensor changes in very heavy rain. Completely unusable and IMHO a bit dangerous now in heavy rain. The rear sensors were going off constantly, no other cars on the road, And you get a nasty alarming beep when changing lanes when the sensor is going off with a...

    Firmware 6.2

2.4.236 Changes to maps to indicate when a supercharger is in/out of range and additional routing options. Also: * Blind spot warning has been improved to reduce alerts * Automatic Emergency Braking has been further improved to reduce the impact of an unavoidable frontal collision *...

Funny smell in my Model S when AC is turn on

I've had that smell once in a while in every car I've owned. A little trick I've found to get rid of it is to turn off AC towards the end of the trip (Or turn it off and put the vents on HIGH heat when parking ). That seems to clear out any condensation enough for the mildew not to take hold.

Mystery traction control activation on dry road.

Yep. Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back. Posted asking if anyone else seen before. Clean dry pavement at low speed , not much gas and TC kicked in for several seconds. Have not seen it again.

Anyone else find TACC still not trustworthy?

My assumption here is that since the car knows distance to target car, it's own speed, the speed differential to the target car and its' own stoping distance based on current speed it can easily calculate the appropriate deceleration rate to stop safely. ( As long as the follow distance is...

Electronic Stability (TC) activating on dry pavement

Didn't seem to be anything on the road. And there was no lateral movement or tire slip I could feel. With normal TC you can clearly feel the slip before TC kicks in. In this case it just seemed to kick in for no reason... or it's way more sensitive/reactive then any TC system I've ever used...

Electronic Stability (TC) activating on dry pavement

(P85D) Observed this this afternoon and caught me by surprise. Turning left onto a divided highway and I had the TC system kick on and retard power way down to 60KW for 3-4 seconds. 70 degrees and dry roads and I was certainly not down on the hammer. The car was planted solid. That's a turn...

Anyone else find TACC still not trustworthy?

It was a Green Toyota RAV4 circa 2006-2008. Amazing how that sticks out in my mind. So yeah I think the Teslas stoping distance is a bit better. I don't think it only emergency brakes when a collision will occur. I bet that's just CYA. IMHO it will brake when it sees a rapid deceleration in...

Anyone else find TACC still not trustworthy?

Right, what I believe I observed was TACC first slowing with the traffic... then the collision avoidance kicking in when the car in front locked up their brakes. Unless TACC can kick in 100% brake (enough for ABS to kick on). I was pleasantly surprised it all worked so seamlessly in my...

Anyone else find TACC still not trustworthy?

I suppose its possible as it all happened so quickly, but I could swear the audible alarm went off and the car started braking before my foot touched the pedal. I was tempting fate a bit by being curious how far TAC would bring the speed down ( with foot over the brake just in case) as I was...

Anyone else find TACC still not trustworthy?

Had my first TAC + emergency braking encounter today. TAC ON and set to 75, following traffic in front of me on I25 south coming into Denver. Traffic begins slowing down to around 40 MPH.. TAC brings speed down to match , I put my foot on the break pedal ( just incase, since I don't trust it...

    Firmware 6.2

Is it just me or did they adjust the fonts/layout on the speedo display in 153? Fonts for the power output look smaller...as well as small adjustment to scale.

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

We only have 1 driver and limited number of runs. There could be variability in run to run as well. More traction 1 run, less another,more/less TC interference, tire temp, etc, etc. His data is a good start but IMHO insufficient to conclude accurate results. It's clear that there is some loss...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

I'm using his 45% SOC number as the 40% run seems a bit suspect. IE: Slower time, but higher trap speed? The 89 and 45% numbers don't have that anomaly. But even with that... the 1/4 Mile time is 4% different and 1/4 MI speed is 1% different. I would discount the 60' ft times as that can be...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

And the numbers that were posted by LetsGoFast of 90%SOC and 40%SOC were 3% performance loss.... to me the far more interesting numbers are the % performance loss caused by heat soak of the batteries... since that seems far more significant.

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

It relates perfectly. BMW claims 414 Peak HP... at sea level, at optimal temperatures. ( If it's 100F the M3 won't deliver 414 HP either ). No one blinks an eye at the fact that the 414HP is best case under ideal conditions. Same as the Tesla... the 691 is best case under ideal conditions...

[updated with *] P85D 691HP should have an asterisk * next to it.. "Up to 691HP"

Can I just point out that a ICE does not make the same HP output at different altitudes. My 414 Peak HP M3 does not make anywhere near 414 HP in Denver. My P85D puts out it's peak HP irrespective of altitude. Should my M3 have an asterisks on it's HP output too? Different power plants have...

    HPWC issues

I saw the same problem, as soon as you plugged in my Tesla, the lights would light up red. Double check the dip switches. I had a Tesla recommended electrician install mine and they set the dip switches incorrectly. ( Technically they did set the dip switches correctly but for an older version...

D owners: When does current limiting occur?

I just did the foot to the floor from a light test 2x on my way home with 60Mi rated range left ( so 25-30% charge? ) No dashed line showed up. Butt-dyno felt like the car was taking off like when it was on full. ( I know totally scientific right? ) The only time i've ever seen that line popup...

    P85D vs. P85 Efficiency Testing, Take 2

P85D here. Insane mode, ~30% city ~70% highway (TACC on on highway). Went from 387W/mi average to 363W/mi today That's the lowest I've ever seen on this route.. same route everyday. ( 28.5 Mile round trip )

Interesting Reddit Topic: Honest talk time, what's the worst thing about the Model S?

To be honest, some things: (1) Touchscreen is pretty damn cool, but to adjust anything via manual controls having to look at the screen at 75MPH sucks. There are definitely some things that wrk better with physical dials. ( Yes I know you can use voice for many things.. but it's not as quick...

Tesla Model S P85D Sets 1/4 Mile World Record vs Hellcat....

My Bad! .. I looked up pricing and said base is $41K ( but looking again that's for the 475HP SRT8 version .. 59K for Hellcat ).. still that's damn cheap for 700 ponies.

Tesla Model S P85D Sets 1/4 Mile World Record vs Hellcat....

Make fun all you want but for a 700Hp Monster like the hellcat at just over $40K is a LOT of bang/$$. One drivers inexperience does not a trend make. And really it's not that HARD to handle that much power in an ICE car.

    Firmware 6.1

Yep, I was under the impression the green light was the expected behavior... to be honest I quite liked it. ( Could tell with a quick look that the car was still charging... though the wall unit still cylons while the car is charging .. so there is that. )

    Firmware 6.1

New owner, new to forum. My P85D installed the 6.1 update this morning and I noticed something odd. When my car is charging on the high power wall connector the charge port light no longer glows green when the car is locked. I could have sworn it used to glow green even when locked prior to...
