Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

I agree with Sam1 and others how alignment is the main factor in why our 21" tires are prematurely wearing. Since I made the change with the shims on my car (after burning thru two sets of rear PS4s with only 8k miles each), my current PS4s on my car are now wearing evenly as they should.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

I ended up installing the Macsboost shims at the same time of putting on a new set of OEM T2s. I suspect this will be good enough.

    Plaid brake upgrade email?

Based on what folks have commented on in this thread, I don't think it's that simple to remedy. But I am willing to try.

    Macsboost vs N2itive

Yeah, I manually moved my suspension back to medium each time I got on the highway, but I still wore through my tires after 10k miles. I installed the Macsboost shims last month and now run in low ride height full time. Hopefully the shims solve the problem.

MS LR Brake Squeak AFTER Fully Stopping

This is the one noise that has consistently bothered me when driving my Plaid. Has anyone come up with a permanent solution? I'm not big on changing out the pads or rims anytime soon, and hoping there's another option.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

I've conducted numerous tests. The lowering is not based on speed... it is triggered when you enter onto a highway. GPS.

Yeah, the conspiracy theories are getting tiresome (pun intended).

Interesting. The yoke is pretty wide. Is the wheel larger than other wheels, in your opinion?

Good question. Grabbing the sides with thumbs on top.

    Steering Wheel / Yoke option

Thanks for the comparison. How about elbow placement with the wheel? With the yoke, my right elbow just reaches for resting on the right side, so I'm wondering if the wheel would be an issue.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Just a friendly reminder for those who prefer riding in the medium suspension on the highway (like myself for additional comfort), you can manually return the suspension to medium upon getting on the highway. The downside is you have to do that each time, which is a pain. (And could easily be...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

This is why I said on this thread a while back that Tesla should at the very least roll out a simple update that allows owners the option to keep the car in standard ride height when on the highway (similar to the current option of maintaining a low ride height). Prior to the refresh, Model S...

Tesla Service getting worst and worst

Service at Tesla is so bad now, that I wish they would outsource servicing to third party dealers! At least I know I could talk to a live person over the phone, and get some real help before and during the repair. I've had my car sitting on their lot multiple days over the last two service...

    12V Access: Model S 2021 Refresh

Good catch about loosing live traffic. That is BS, given the car is still connected. I suspect this impacts routing decisions by the nav computer. Grrrr... If I go into settings and hit the check box to have the car stay connected to the hotspot when in drive, it stays connected consistently...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

I still think this is the same problem as the previous performance Model S cars running on 21" rims, with the camber off due to riding at low suspension height. Only now the problem is more common and happening faster due to Tesla having the refresh default to low suspension height when on the...

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Nice, and thx! So the only thing you appear to be experiencing is a warning chime with the bike rack mounted. If Tesla decides to continue to only offer the hitch in Europe, I can deal with an occasional chime.

California DMV complaint over Tesla Autopilot/FSD

As a long time Tesla fanboy owner who has used all generations of AP and now FSD (minus now radar, along with a dedicated rain sensor, etc), I have to admit that this a reality-check moment for Elon. Tesla would be much more successful as a manufacturer and brand if they made the existing...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Yeah, unlike on my last Model S, the refresh always defaults to low now on the highway and I’ve been having to turn it off when I can. I was doing that before seeing this thread, simply because I knew the lower ride height tended to wear out the tires faster on the previous cars, and also for...

More aptly after experimenting with FSD for numerous months, "Who do I have to sleep with to get FSD to not kill me?" Sorry, but it's still crap from my perspective. Too many close calls of being steered into oblivion. Unlike Autopilot (and especially AP1), FSD now makes me straight out anxious...

    Enhanced Autopilot back

As many are commenting elsewhere, the one useful feature in EAP is auto lane changing (which I think should be part of basic Autopilot like we had in AP1). The rest of the features are mostly party tricks. For $6k, no thanks. Fail. Tesla really needs to offer these features individually, or...

    Rear/Trunk mounted bike rack suggestion?

I used the SeaSucker setup on my Model S... until the sway of the weight of my eBike cracked the glass roof. Hence why I am likely going to be going with a trailer hitch solution on my Plaid this time around.

That sucks, if Tesla eliminated such in future releases. Navigate on Autopilot is terrible IMHO, so I have my Plaid setup to just do manual confirmations for lane changes (basically turned off NoA).
