Plan: Off grid solar with a Model S battery pack at the heart

WK- How are you keeping the batteries from overcharging?

Plan: Off grid solar with a Model S battery pack at the heart

WK- Are you going to be doing any inter-module monitoring of the 6 parallel groups in series, or are you finding that the BMS board on each module seems to be balancing the groups in the module?

Plan: Off grid solar with a Model S battery pack at the heart

WK, I spoke with a tech at Outback today about the specs of the inverter you are using (gs8048a). They claim the inverter will literally shut off once it gets to 40v. That's 3.33v per cell so if correct, it might affect your capacity more than you hope. On the other hand, I wonder if there is...

Plan: Off grid solar with a Model S battery pack at the heart

Take a look at this inverter: Outback Power Inc. - Mobile Inverter/Chargers Vented VFX3232M It works with DC input range of 31.5 to 51v. It's only 3200w but maybe there's something available in a higher rating with the same DC input range (or maybe make use of a bunch of these for smaller...

Plan: Off grid solar with a Model S battery pack at the heart

I've been thinking of a few things as I read your posts- -I believe the inverters you are using shut off once voltage gets below 40v. Will this significantly limit the capacity you can get out of the modules? Perhaps a dc/dc converter could bump up the voltage coming from the modules enough...

Plan: Off grid solar with a Model S battery pack at the heart

Is Anyone here interested in doing something similar to what wk057 is doing, for a non-profit? A non-profit I help is hoping to use a salvage 85kwh battery to power their "conservation education" trailer rather than a noisy, smelly diesel generator. The non-profit would buy the salvage battery...
