Anyone try Mr Chrome for factory wheel exchange? (or wheel chroming company)

I did not ending up getting my wheels chromed but I have had 3 other cars (pre-Teslas, Corvette, Lexus, & Acura) where the dealer had the wheels chromed prior to purchase. They said they used Mr Chrome or similar and those wheels did not give me any trouble during the ~10 years or so that I had...

4 kW Tesla solar install (with existing solar) and Powerwall addition and what I learned

I'm right in the middle of a new Tesla solar panels system being added (they'll finish installation next week). House has a pre-existing non-Tesla solar system then we added powerwalls in 12/2019. Everything's been working great, but I'm now concerned about, after the 2nd PV system is running...

    Non-staggered for Model X

Anyone have suggestions (ideally a link) to spacers that have been tried on the front of a MX? So that the rear stock wheels can be put on the front to prevent rubbing the suspension parts. When I was under the car at the tire shop, they showed me the parts that rub and it looked like it'd only...

Advice needed on Tesla vs SolarEdge inverter selection

Hang in there @zonela hopefully you'll get your SE inverter on Monday! If so, I hope I get mine soon thereafter since that seems like Tesla got more SE inverters in finally. With a Tesla inverter, my total output will be significantly reduced, because multiple panels on multiple strings have to...

Advice needed on Tesla vs SolarEdge inverter selection

Today, 2/8, I was told the exact same thing as @zonela. Tesla was suppose to install a 8kw system today but I decided to wait for the SolarEdge, mostly based on the lead's suggestion/mention that they've been having "issues" with the initial installs of the Tesla Solar Inverter. Sigh. 3-4 weeks...

PG&E is finally dropping the NGOM requirement for my 3 Powerwalls setup

My bad for contributing to the off-topic SGIP stuff @SMAlset I got too excited about the rebate check arrival! :) Just to finish though: Correct guys, mine was a Step 2 large scale rebate. Glad to see at least one NGOM not get installed and hopefully others too. It must look so much better on...

PG&E is finally dropping the NGOM requirement for my 3 Powerwalls setup

BTW: So our total net-net cost (after installation, tax credit, SGIP rebate, etc) per powerwall is $4200/each. How does that compare to other's total anticipated net-net cost after you get your SGIP check???

PG&E is finally dropping the NGOM requirement for my 3 Powerwalls setup

I just got our SGIP (large scale step 2) rebate check! Finally and so happy now! So from the installation date of the 3 powerwalls to the check's arrival date, it took 13 months total. Hopefully knowing my timeline will help others stay sane during the waiting period. Good luck everyone!

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

Thanks for the details. Sounds like the Zigbee gateway would give Tesla some additional capabilities. So maybe my ethernet will plug into a Zigbee also, even though wifi won't be necessary. I got confirmation that the Tesla design team is going to relocate the inverter to inside of my garage...

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

Got it, I know they asked for an ethernet connection to plug into the SolarEdge inverter. So as long as they have that, does that give the same features as the Zigbee Gateway or is there a difference for my situation? My current/1st PV system is a 2012 4.5kw Sungevity system that doesn't have...

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

Did you have each system installed at different times? Guessing at different times since it sounds like you have two physically separate inverters combined and showing as one system in your Tesla app, is that right?
  18. heytae

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

Tesla said that they're adding a SolarEdge inverter with String Optimizers for the 2nd system. If I'm understanding you right, it sounds like I should request that they wire it in such a way that a) I can see the separate output from each system, and b) the SolarEdge app should let me see what...

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

Oh that's nice. It sounds like you have the best of both worlds. Well, I guess the most flexible solution would to able to choose system 1, system 2, or systems 1 & 2, but that's probably asking for too much. :D Most likely, the way it's wired up will determine how it'll be shown in the app. Thanks.
  20. heytae

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

My solar breakers are in the same panel as the CTs so it sounds like the two PV system's generation would be combined. I wonder though if it'd be better to have them separate, if Tesla supports that, so that I can see which PV is producing more or less throughout the day as the sun moves. Some...

    2 solar panel systems a 1 powerwall (N. California)

It's been hard finding info about adding a 2nd system and the app behavior afterwards. I'm considering adding a 2nd PV system onto our home using Tesla panels. 1st system is non-Tesla. Does your Powerwall app simply show the output of BOTH combined PV systems, as if the 1st one just "grew...

PG&E is finally dropping the NGOM requirement for my 3 Powerwalls setup

Mine were Step 2. If I recall correctly, I think our net-net cost per powerwall, after the FTIC and rebate, will be $4200 each, out the door installed. And the above rebate is for all 3 of them of course.

Hopefully this will give others some additional hope... Woo-hoo! I just got an email today that our SGIP rebate from PG&E finally got approved for payment! Wildfires, ash, and cleaning rooftop solar panels

This thread inspired me to climb up on 2nd story roof to clean ours once again. Past 2 cleanings weren't that beneficial for our system, beyond a few days, but I was hoping that removing the ash from the 2020 fires would get me a bigger gain this year. I wish the results were better. Anyone have...

Viability of rotating MX tires/wheels after this easy hack/mod?

On the MX, many owners are getting low mileage from their tires. Lots of reasons for that, including the adjustable air suspension, but the inability to rotate the tires using the stock wheels exacerbates the issue. If it's possible to rotate the tires using the stock 20" wheels, that'd be...

Viability of rotating MX tires/wheels after this easy hack/mod?

If there is enough interest in this mod/hack, I'll investigate its viability sooner than later. I'd like to solve the mystery once and for all, so that I, as well as others, know whether the MX wheels/tires can be rotated successfully via this method or not. I posted the following in another...

    20" Wheel Options

Thanks for clarifyinng @Qbenjamin Bottom line: you're using 20" x 8.5" wide front-sized wheels (35mm offset) with the 265s on all four corners. I've ordered four 265s tires and will be trying them on the stock rear 20" x 9.5" wide wheels that have a 40mm offset and putting them on the front of...

    20" Wheel Options

Hmmm, sorry to go back and forth on this but are you sure that's your REAR wheels size? The 8.5" width and 35mm offset seems like it's the front wheels size. If that's in fact what you're running on all four corners, that may be why it's working for you. My front wheels are the same as yours...

    Non-staggered for Model X

Thanks but it's I'm hoping that somebody with the exact setup of the 20-in slipstream 9.5-in wheel with a 40 mm offset on the front can confirm that it's only the rubber touching a suspension part when making a hard right or left hand turn. And nothing else such as the tire rubbing against the...

    Non-staggered for Model X

btw: I see that the 265s are weight-rated as 108 vs 110 for the 275s. Probably doesn't make a significant difference for me since I'm not towing a trailer but let me know if others have a different opinion.
  37. heytae

    Non-staggered for Model X

That's GREAT to hear that the stock rear 20" wheels fit on the front w/out any metal-to-metal rubbing! You're the very first to directly confirm that so I appreciate it. (I know others did but indirectly) Are you saying you'd do 265s instead of 275s square because of the rubbing or something...

    20" Wheel Options

Oh, it's really helpful to know, thanks. Are you able to confirm that your rear wheels are either 35 mm or 40 mm offsets and 9 1/2 in wide on the wheels? That's the critical part for me is whether the offset is going to cause any issues. I don't mind a little bit of rubber tire to metal rubbing...

"wheel whore!" LOL Not sure what TE37 is but I'm familiar with the spacers concept. Do you have any links to what you're saying may be required to fit the 9.5" 40mm offset wheels onto the front? Good luck with your attempt. I'm trying to make a decision this week if possible otherwise I may...

    Non-staggered for Model X

Rubbing I can handle b/c I know it's only when I turn it in each direction all the way. Sounds like you're confirming that the 40mm offset with the 9.5" wheels do in fact fit on the front of the MX. Sorry don't mean to be too AR but want to make 100% sure b/c I have to order the tires and will...

    Non-staggered for Model X

I also think the front slipstreams on a 2017 MX are 20x9 with an offset of 35mm. Not 9.5" and not 40mm. At least that's the way mine are. It's confusing though, whether my rear wheels, which are 20x9.5 with an offset of 40mm, will actually fit on the front of the MX. Will the wheels themselves...

    Non-staggered for Model X

@detdds do you happen to know if your 9.5" wheels on all 4 corners are with the 40mm offset or 35mm? I want to be able to go square with 275s and be able to move my rear 9.5" 40mm offset wheels to the front as needed without any fitment issues. I read one person say that my rear wheel will...

    20" Wheel Options

@Qbenjam Any particular reason you chose the 265s instead of going with 275s all the way around? My MX has 9" wide wheels on the front (35mm offset) and 9.5" wheels (40mm offset) on the rears. Wheelworks is suggesting I go with 275s square but I'm worried they'll rub in the front. See any...

    Nexen tires?

@kkarlin So by putting 275s on all four corners of your MX, are you saying that you're able to a) now rotate all 4 tires since they're no longer staggered, and b) no rubbing on the fronts? Any complaints from the car's electronics? Not sure if 275s fit would differ from one tire brand to...
