What will you splurge your TSLA gains on?

I'm moving house in the next few months (no choice) and the new house will cost about double my current one. Was planning to sell a bit of TSLA to go towards the deposit. Now looking like I'll need to either look for a cheaper house or sell more TSLA than I wanted to

I think your P90D will continue to function even if the 90 pack is discontinued... ;)

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Anyone heard any news on Crawley/Gatwick? Tesla site says "target opening by end of 2017". I'm renting a Model S from the 28th and this site might be useful to me... fingers crossed!

Guy Martin and the Robot Car

Agreed. I watched this and loved it! And I'm not a huge fan of Guy Martin or anything. Was amusing seeing all the twitter comments afterwards about the tea robot putting the milk in first!

    Parking in Westminster

I'm one of them! Always happy to see a Tesla during my cycle commute in London. I come up from Mitcham towards Southwark Bridge. Seeing more and more Teslas these days in London, especially Model X.

Is this a valid concern? Charge Port

I really hope this isn't the final charge port design. Why can't it have the cool flip-open door like the Model S? This design is ugly and not befitting of Tesla or the rest of the car. Not having charge indicator lights would really be annoying when plugging in. Really, for $35k they can't...

    Speculation - New charging plug?

Differentiate by making it suck? Compared to the elegant S/X charge port, this looks like something an intern hacked together after lunch. In fact the more I think about it, the more I think this can't be the final design. Why would you go for a huge ugly piece of black plastic on the side of...

    Speculation - New charging plug?

I really hope so. Can't believe people are defending this. I expect better design from Tesla.

    Speculation - New charging plug?

What big thing to the right? The edge of the supercharger is blocking the view of the rest of the charge port cover. I have to say, I just came across this image on twitter, and I agree with @arnis that this looks like a shockingly poor design. That flap is just asking to be broken off, either...

Intel buys self-driving tech firm Mobileye for $15.3 billion

Seems pretty smart to me. Intel clearly needs to respond to the threat from NVIDIA with respect to AI and self-driving tech. I must admit I'm slightly worried, Mobileye claims to be working with 27 car manufacturers, meanwhile Tesla is on its own and still hasn't caught up to where it was before...

Planning to rent 70D for road trip. Will range be enough?

I don't think you'll have any problems. We rented a 70D back in July from Salzburg for a trip around southern Germany and Switzerland. Our longest leg was 209km over 4 Alpine mountain passes, so we charged up to almost full at Beckenried, which showed 351km. We arrived with 70km left. No...

How about this? That's Belgium on the left, Netherlands in the middle and Germany on the right... :D That's nowhere near where I did my trip though so I couldn't comment on whether it's possible.

1700 km road trip in Europe with Model S 70D - Video

Well, I didn't go too nuts but got up to 205kph on the first day. On the way back to Salzburg was the only time we had any real range anxiety... I was flying along at about 200 when the car said we would need to slow down to 110 to make it to the next supercharger. So I did that but then spotted...

1700 km road trip in Europe with Model S 70D - Video

Haha, indeed! Actually it didn't work with the extension cord and we ended up passing the UMC cable through a window into the house. That's why I wanted to move the car forward a bit. I was actually quite surprised by how much charge we gained overnight from 220v at 13A :)

1700 km road trip in Europe with Model S 70D - Video

Thanks! Yes, GoPro Hero 4 Silver - but it was all filmed in 1080p 25fps, medium field of view for the driving. Wide gives too much of a fish-eye look and a higher resolution is not necessary. I'd recommend a lapel mic if you want to talk to the camera while driving, although I didn't always...

1700 km road trip in Europe with Model S 70D - Video

The 70D was actually perfectly adequate for this trip and the range is not much lower than an S85, which is what I expected to get. There are plenty of superchargers in the region. The only part that I was concerned about was going through the Swiss mountains, over the Susten, Grimsel and Furka...

We recently did a 1700 km trip through Austria, Germany and Switzerland and I made a video about it - here is part 1: The video is 33 minutes and includes our visit to Heidelberg, Germany. I also wrote some blog posts about it... Introduction Day 1 - Salzburg to Mannheim Day 2 - Heidelberg...

Is it possible to change the UI language?

Sorry to reply to my own thread but the response from EdA doesn't really answer the question (no offence intended) and I've now done my trip in the Model S rented in Austria. So I can confirm that it is possible to change the UI language. You just go into the Controls, and there is a setting in...

Planning a trip through Austria, Switzerland and Germany in a rented Model S

OK so I've updated my plan to start at Salzburg and also reversed the direction of the trip - now we'll be going anticlockwise, so Nuremberg will be the first stop off point. I'm also blogging about the trip - I've just done my first post about our plans - Electric Road Trip – 4 days in a...

Is it possible to change the UI language?

Sorry, I searched but I can't find the answer to this question. Is it possible to change the language of the UI in the Model S? Reason I ask is that I'm hiring a Model S in Austria, so it might have the UI in German. It would be nice to be able to change it to English while I have the car. Thanks

Anti-Tesla piece in the Telegraph (UK)

Don't be fooled - Elon Musk's electric cars aren't about to save the planet This got me pretty wound up over my breakfast this morning. Full of the usual BS about how EVs are powered by coal, etc. I noticed the weasel words "the electricity powering it is often produced with coal" - no mention...

Elon tweet re: lack of instrument cluster

I think it's got to be a HUD. But not just any HUD - I think the projector will be not be a single device in front of the driver, but instead will be a strip of LEDs stretching right across the dashboard. That way any image can be clearly projected onto any point in your vision. Think about it...

Planning a trip through Austria, Switzerland and Germany in a rented Model S

Thanks guys. Andre - I think you're right, it is a lot of driving in 4 days. So I've altered the plan slightly - the company I'm hiring from also has a location in Salzburg so we will start from there. That cuts out about 3 hours of driving on the first day meaning we can get further into...

How will you use your Model 3

I don't currently own a car and living in London, I don't really need one. But I'm putting a deposit down on a Model 3 because I'd love to own a Tesla and I can't justify an S. I'll use it mainly at weekends and for trips. During the week maybe I can rent it out so it pays for itself! :D

Planning a trip through Austria, Switzerland and Germany in a rented Model S

So I'm not an owner but after suffering/enjoying Tesla obsession for a couple of years I've decided to rent a Model S for a road trip. Tesla rental is super expensive in the UK where I live but I found a place in Vienna, Austria that is more reasonable. So my plan is to hire an S85 for 4 days...

New battery patent war? BASF vs Umicore

This is an interesting and slightly worrying read: Two industrial titans are duking it out over a technology that could make electric cars mainstream Quartz I wonder what the implications are to Tesla, if any?
