    Canadian Roadtrip

I will shortly be driving from Ottawa, Ontario to Victoria, British Columbia. Looking at PlugShare for DC fast chargers along the route, it seems like the Petro Canada chargers are really, really dicey. And even when they do work, and claim to do 200kW, it seems many are actually limited to...

Does leaving AC on Auto lead to premature failure?

I had my air filters replaced by mobile service, and the technician said to leave it in Auto all the time. He said one of the changes they made to prevent the smell from coming back is that when in Auto, once you park the car it will keep the fans running to dry out the system. It would't help...

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

I understand the logic for the network providers... But it really does feel like these networks are aiming for the worst customer experience so they can save a few pennies here and there. It is maddening.

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

Bummer. Would have been nice if it was more interoperable. Thanks for the feedback folks!

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

If I'm understanding things correctly, it seems like ChargePoint, FLO and BC Hydro have some sort of cross-charging network sharing agreement. FLO and BC Hydro both want $15 (or so) to deliver you an RFID card that you can use to start chargers without needing to use their respective apps...

Phantom Braking issues improved in 2022.4.5.17 update?

I feel the same way. On a multi-lane divided highway, no big deal. You probably want to be as dead centre in the lane as you can manage. But when you are on a 2 lane, non-divided highway I'd much prefer that the car hug closer to the outside of the lane and as far away from oncoming traffic as...

Phantom Braking issues improved in 2022.4.5.17 update?

I originally read that as "Still absolutely unusable on 2-lane roads". Glad I misread it. 😅

    AP/phantom braking.

Sorry to hear you experienced it so quickly. It has been a constant source of disappointment since I bought my MY last summer. However, there is reason for hope (finally!) Several anecdotal reports of significant improvements to TACC/AP behavior in the 2022.4.5.17 update...

Phantom braking in my new Model Y

Someone seems to have noticed a large improvement in TACC PB behavior with the recent 2022.4.5.17 update: I updated to that version yesterday, but have not tried out TACC yet. Will be interesting to see if this is the "one" that largely fixes the issue. 🤞

    Phantom Braking

Sadly, at the moment it seems the only thing you can do is not use it or accept that you are going to have to be ready to hit the accelerator when using TACC. Really hoping the recent investigations into this behavior will force Tesla to at least give us a dumb cruise control while they try and...

    Phantom Braking

Not sure how an improved map is going to prevent my car from slamming on the brakes when a semi truck passes by while using TACC.
  12. S

Sold my Model S, bought an Ioniq 5

Quite curious about how well their adaptive cruise / autopilot equivalent works. As an owner of vision only MY, one of my big issues with the car is the TACC's tendency to slam on the brakes on 2 lane, non-divided highways. Ugh. Yeah, both of these things very quickly spoil you. I'd definitely...
  13. S

    “Dumb” cruise control?

If it this were the case only when using autopilot, I would 💯 agree with you. When AP is engaged, there is the presumption that the driver is paying less attention so having the car take a more cautious approach could be somewhat justifiable. But TACC is a whole other story. Like, I'm literally...

    Phantom braking survey

4+ lane roads will probably be fine. And if there is traffic that you can follow, that generally seems to help things as well. The worst offenders tend to be 2 lane roads when a semi-truck is heading in the other direction. Just in case you haven't seen this yet:

    Phantom braking survey

Assuming you are buying an Y or a 3 (which has no radar... this would not apply to an S or an X which are still shipping with radar.) In my experience so far, I would say that if you are driving primarily on 4 lane divided highways / freeways during the day it'll probably be OK. On the other...

    Cruise Control Acting Like AutoPilot

Yep. TACC (and by extension AP) is really bad on cars without radar. Dumb cruise as an option until TACC is no longer considered Beta on vision only cars would be super welcome.
  17. S

How can you desensitize the adaptive cruise control collision avoidance?

💯 - After experiencing how poorly the current vision only stack "works" for TACC, I literally cannot imagine paying Tesla anything for FSD. I literally thought it was a joke when they recently raised the price on it. They should be paying people to test it, not charging for it.
  18. S

    Phantom Braking

Since you have to explicitly say you accept that you are using a "beta" feature to turn on TACC/Autopilot on vision only cars, it seems like it would be easy for Tesla to offer a dumb cruise control if I say that I do not want to accept those terms.

    Phantom Braking

 One of these years Elon will be right. 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022? My expectations reading all of the rave reviews of Tesla's autonomous driving features had me excited about the prospect of getting to use them myself. I had been planning to take it on a...

Phantom Braking Needs to be Reported and Fixed

Here is a good post on Reddit about this. Short video with some examples of what some of us are going through. And for those of you incessantly quoting the manual about using TACC on 2 lane highways, or that it is still in Beta don't bother. If Tesla cannot reliably support TACC on 2 lane...

Vision Only vs Radar - Observations from a 3 year owner

It's nice to hear this from an Tesla owner who had previous experience with the radar based AP/TACC. It is super frustrating as an owner of vision-only car to have all of the dismissive responses from those that have the radar based system and have not had the joy, thrills and excitement of...

Phantom Braking Needs to be Reported and Fixed

There is an easy fix here - dumb cruise control. I should be able to opt-out of the "Autosteer Beta" (or whatever it is called) and it should just fall back to dumb cruise. Same thing should happen when the cameras are blinded and it can't do cruise control (which happened to me once due to...

I can't wait for the next update! Phantom braking is driving me nuts.

Nope. Wish it were an option, as I would find that far less stressful than having to hover over the accelerator "just in case".

    2021.44.30 Rolling out

Just got 2021.44.30 this morning on my 2021 MYLR. It looks like it replaced 2021.44.25.2, as that version no longer appears in my release notes. But all of the release note content associated with .25.2 is included under the .30 section.

    Steering wheel heat inconsistent

It might be my imagination, but it feels a bit less cycle-on/off since the Holiday update. Not that it doesn't still have the heat/cooling cycle, but it feels a bit less edgy (if that makes any sense).
  26. S

. . . but what do you miss from your old car?

Blind spot LEDs by the mirrors, 360 degree parking view, more compliant suspension, old-fashioned cruise control

Curious - as a beta tester, are you able to provide feedback for events like this?

FWIW, I've noticed this as well. So it's either a bug or a feature. 🤔

    Updates

Is that regardless of whether it has the hardware on the car? I took delivery of my Y at the end of June. However, it was an atypical situation in that the car was sitting in inventory at Tesla for while. The car was manufactured 04/21 and it has lumbar on the passenger side, and the new console.

    Updates

MYLR was on 2021.4.18.10 and I was excited to see a software update today... Then wasn't very excited as it was just 2021.4.21.3  Not sure if my vehicle is vision only or not - is there an easy way to tell?

    Charge STOPPED Interesting Tale

There is a similar issue reported in a thread over here: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/tesla-ownership-experience-car-talk-only-1773493/1103/#p34816070 You might try disabling "Allow Mobile Access" and see if you are having the same problem with some rogue remote connection telling the car to...

    Model Y for Canada!

Tesla pretty quickly adjusted the prices upwards when the $CAD tanked vs the $USD earlier this year. Hopefully they will adjust again in the other direction in the not too distant future. I think historically anyway they've been pretty good with exchange rate related pricing changes?
  35. S

    Model Y in Canada

Perf dropped a bit. Based on this it was $85990, and is now $83990. Not nearly as a big a drop as the LR AWD. Tesla lowers car prices in Canada by a few thousand dollars
  36. S

    Model Y for Canada!

FYI for those that haven't picked up yet, and who may have ordered recently, Tesla dropped the price on the Y. Starting at $69990 for the LR AWD.
  37. S

    Model Y in Canada

The most recent price was $75990 after they moved all of the prices up. Prior to that it was $72990. Tesla lowers car prices in Canada by a few thousand dollars Now it is at $69990. I guess the demand isn't as strong as they were hoping...

Model Y versus Ford Mustang Mach-E

There was a great story of one of the first owners of a Porsche Taycan doing a loop from the Eastern US, up into Eastern Canada, across to the west coast of Canada, then down south through through California and back across to the east. Actually a very interesting read, with lots of great pics...

    Model S price drop

There is a good summary here: Tesla Lowers Prices in Canada by Up to $7,000 But to answer your question: Performance – $130,990 (-$7,000; was $137,990)

Has anyone taken delivery with 19" Gemini wheels?

Looking at the picture here: Model Y shipping The red one has black, and the white beneath it seems to be chrome? Or maybe its just some sort of protective film? Though why they'd have that on the white and not the red, I dunno.
  41. S

Has anyone taken delivery with 19" Gemini wheels?

I feel like the Gemini's might look OK on a white Model Y, where the handles are chrome and so it does a better job matching with the silver. The match with the MSM isn't terrible, IMHO. I tried searching around, but do we know for sure what the Gemini's look like with the aero covers removed?

Ottawa Tesla Owners (was Factory Pickup)

Thanks for the suggestion - certainly another possibility! I do have family in that part of the world... on the Island in fact. Could kill a couple of birds with one stone. I was definitely hoping for Superchargers, but Sun Country through Canada would certainly be more of an 'adventure.' It...

Ottawa Tesla Owners (was Factory Pickup)

Thanks everyone - I had this feeling it wasn't going to work out. But thought I'd ask anyway. Great to hear that there could be an Ottawa service center... I did notice that in the 2016 supercharger map, it appears that Ottawa is on the list. Perhaps a supercharger and a service center...

Ottawa Tesla Owners (was Factory Pickup)

Just curious if anyone has tried to do a factory pickup of a Canadian Model S? While I'm not at the point that I have the finances together, I thought it would be neat to be able to order the car, fly out to California, pickup the car at the factory, take the tour, and then road trip it home...

Ontario electric vehicle charging incentive program

One other related, but not quite related question... ;) What if you wanted to install a charger that would work for other PHEV's or EV's such as a Volt or a Ford Energi product? Is there a charger on the Ontario Rebate list that would be good for a Tesla (overnight type charging) as well as...

    Tesla PowerWall in Ontario

That is exactly what I thought. It would be ideal for my situation (if I had a Tesla ;) where the car is often in the garage for most of the day and doesn't need much charge to go for the short hops. Have the car top itself off during off peak hours, then let the battery power the house during...

Ontario electric vehicle charging incentive program

Fantastic and very helpful answer Peter! * Thank you * I have not yet purchased a Tesla, but am starting to look into understanding the various details of what it would entail to get setup for charging. This was certainly one of the areas I was curious about. A bit more money for an HPWC, but...
