Are you still on the original battery pack with your 2012-2015 Model S?

2015S 85D, 8-1/2 years, 55K miles. Original 100% indicated range was 265 miles, which I always considered a bit optimistic, but probably doable at 50 mph with all accessories off. 100% charge now indicates 245 miles. So my battery has declined only 7.5%. Really? No way. A number of owners on...

small screen delaminating, two options, need advice

Thanks to all for the thoughtful replies. A lot newer tech! -- sure, but what does that mean for me? When I love my car the way it is... I especially thank Wally, who's been pretty much where I am. So if I've got this straight: I can still get the MCU2 upgrade in the future and it includes a...

small screen delaminating, two options, need advice

I now understand that this is called a MCU2 upgrade. Some say this results in all kinds of grief, others like it. I'm not clear about FM radio -- would I lose it? What about my lifetime connectivity?

small screen delaminating, two options, need advice

2015 MS 85D, drives like Day 1. 48K, no dings, no rattles, battery better than 80%. Three issues to date: two door handles and one trunk latch, all fixed at home. Now I find the small screen beginning to delaminate. I wanted this fixed before my extended warranty runs out in three months. I...

    Supercharger "fines"? [Idle fees]

Really? Where/how do they do that? Inquiring mind would like to know...

    'Voice Commands' in latest 2020.4.1

Don't think we need a firmware upgrade. At least in my case, what we have here is failure to communicate. Previously: Press and hold voice-command button; issue command. Now: Press and do not hold voice-command button; issue command. Tesla just didn't tell us. This really bugged me for a...

A vacation trip from the Bay Area to the Grand Canyon in a Model S

Be honest: is SCing on a long trip annoying?

OMG: only two hours of driving and then a whole hour of charging... BE HONEST: Aren't you stating the case in the worst possible light? I drive at least three hours between stops, and I charge in 30-40 minutes, sometimes less, about the time it takes to stretch, relieve and hydrate. Recently...

A vacation trip from the Bay Area to the Grand Canyon in a Model S

Thanks. This was actually our fourth touring trip, the earlier three being within California, all similarly easy, convenient, successful... that's 5000 miles of touring with a fuel cost of zero. (I carry a Chargepoint and some other card but have never used them.) We're working our way up. Next...

A vacation trip from the Bay Area to the Grand Canyon in a Model S

Following are the basics of a vacation trip from the SF Bay Area to the Grand Canyon, made in late September in a Model S. We visited a number of interesting places along the way, including Yosemite, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes, Lone Pine, Alabama Hills, Mt Whitney Portal, Las Vegas and Death...

Is Pano roof absolute requirement for roof rack?

I too had reservations about the pano roof for the same reasons the OP mentioned (rattles + rarely opened due wind noise), but I got one anyway. I open, tilt and close it all the time (10 months now) with no problems and no rattles. Not sorry I got it.

How fast did Model S ruin you for ICE?

How fast is human reaction time? For me, it was about 15 milliseconds after I put toe to Tesla pedal that I knew I would one day own one. My wife's car is also an EV, so I don't have to drive ICE cars at all any more. My problem is when I have to ride in someone else's ICE machine -- I find it...

To P or NOT to P...

Thanks for that. I was getting the impression from this site that anybody going for a non-P model was a wuss. Every time I demonstrate my 85D's acceleration capabilities, my demonstratees have, within 0.8 seconds, yelled out something like "Oh yeah, OK, that's good, we get it... please don't...

    Model S Celebrities

A couple weeks ago Stephen Colbert said on the Late Show that he's driving a Tesla and he loves it. There was a brief shot of a red P85. Was he putting us on? Maybe, but don't think so...

    "Hidden cost of ownership?"

Please excuse a very naive question: What does a dashcam add to a Model S and why do you consider it a necessity? Where do you mount it?

How satisfied are you with the non-AP (Classic) V7.0

I miss the big speedo/energy virtual gauge in the center. Pride of place, attractive and functional, proudly displaying what Tesla is really good at, managing the flow of energy in and out of the battery. Now I have a flat, dead white avatar there right below my line of sight where a good...

    Hold me!

Not a member of CR, so no positive input from me in their survey, but if they asked, I would respond NO ISSUES. Which is not to say I don't have a minor complaint or two. The garage remote's range is wimpy, the rear-view camera blocks out the garage/gate remote buttons, and I hate what they...

New 70 RWD or classic P85

Better to get a new car with the color and interior and features you really want. The Ludicrous mode is something you might feel good claiming you have, but you won't get any real joy out of it except for a few seconds, rarely. The 70 rwd still has awesome acceleration. A new car will have...

    Hold me!

I think you'll be very pleased. I am. 4 months, 3K miles, great performance, no problems. I suggest not worrying -- for sure you will love the car. If there is an issue they'll cheerfully fix it.

New Tesla Owner – first 45 days and 6000 miles later

Great post, thanks. I've had mine just a little longer than you and made a similar trip from the Bay Area to La Jolla in August. I noted that "Scarlet" (as we call the Nav gal’s voice) sometimes wants you to turn around and go back to the SC you just left. Just ignore her for a few miles and...

    XM Radio Presets getting deleted

Wow. It really is a bug and I'm not going crazy. I also lose station presets. I've re-entered the FM presets about five times. At seemingly random times* one, two or three just disappear. For some time I thought I was doing something wrong, but I now have witnesses who will confirm: Six FM...

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Make the Lane Departure warning threshold adjustable. 30 mph is too low for the South Bay where we often are moving faster than 30 while constantly encountering new lanes, disappearing lanes, striping for bike lanes, etc, etc. Both my wife and I were so bothered by the constant unnecessary...
