    Tesla Owners in Alberta

Hey everyone. I think my SD card failed on my MCU, because maps won’t download anymore. Kind of annoying because Tesla was in there twice (daughter board recall and SIM card swap) and didn’t tell me there was a serviceable wear and tear item. Tesla wants to replace it with a 16 GB card and I’d...

Tesla Model S Door Handle Microswitch UPGRADED Harness Replacement

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the suggestions and looked into them. I ultimately ended up emailing EV tuning and they gave me a much better shipping rate. So I got three of them. After duties, taxes, shipping, etc it still came to almost $130 CAD / per door handle. But it should be the last time...

Tesla Model S Door Handle Microswitch UPGRADED Harness Replacement

Hi everyone. I've grown tired of having my Model S door handles repaired every year, especially since I'm now out of warranty and I think it's about $400 each time. EV tuning has an upgraded micro-switch/wire replacement that seems problem free. The trouble is the shipping is obscene ($111.62...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Just a fart in the wind compared to pollution or fission storage. And in Canada, most, if not all, capture methane, unlike the US were there is so much methane flaring that some areas, like North Dakota, look like cities when flying over.

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Then stop focusing on CO2. The pollution emitted from coal burning is millions to billions of times greater than NG. Over 6.5 million people die a year from air pollution. It's the #1 cause of cancer. It kills many times more ecologically. NG plants are also ~45% thermodynamically efficient...

Right headlight power issue -- any experts?

As a follow-up, I managed to fix the issue. I pulled the front trunk tub out and underneath it are two grounding points on both frame rails. I unscrewed them, sanded them down and wire brushed the terminal. Then applied dielectric grease and screwed them back on. All the issues have gone away...

Right headlight power issue -- any experts?

Thanks for replying. Shocking that your new Model S would have this issue! Sounds like it was not tightened rather than lose. Does your service invoice contain any clues as to which ground wire? I'm really hoping I don't have to take too much apart to trace the wires leading from the headlight...

Right headlight power issue -- any experts?

Hi everyone. I noticed just a couple days ago that my passenger side headlight was having power issues. Sometimes when I signal right, the light would blink twice as fast and make no sound in the car. It seems to be getting worse and now my air suspension light is on. When the headlights are...

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

I too agree that the slow super charging is egregious. If it actually came down to battery management they could easily implement a "slow/fast" charging option that allows us to preserve our battery long term when we're not in a rush or charge as fast as possible.... the same concept as to how...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Noooo! I remember a firmware "upgrade" that did this to my car and I hated it. They reverted it soon after and I got double the bass back. I've found with the newer cars, I hear some distortion when the bass EQ is set at even 7, but my 2013 is flawless at even 12! I really hope they can correct...

    TPMS reset on V10

When I was at the service center, they had a handheld unit that shows the sensor information, including battery voltage, serial numbers, etc. After walking around the car and collecting all the serial numbers, that same unit was able to send the serial numbers to the car's TPMS module. The...

    TPMS reset on V10

Tesla wrote me back with a generic message to reboot my car. I wrote back saying They replied just now saying It's shocking how they seem to no longer understand the limitations of the Baolong sensors and think they're the same as the Continental. I'm writing them back and pointing to this...

Hey everyone, we really need to jump on Tesla together on this one. Yeah, I saw that story when it was fresh news. They weren't in the rear facing seats, they were in the middle row. That's why I said: The vehicles with the rear-facing seats have an extruded aluminum bumper that could have possibly stopped the SUV from riding up the vehicle. I doubt it, but...

Plaid Edition Model S to Get Seven Seats, Production Starts Late 2020

You’re overconfident and unfortunately completely wrong. The #1 vehicular injury is neck injuries. It gets much more grim for younger children. So as long as you can keep them rear facing, it’s far safer. Yes there are accidents that can kill them, but don’t be fooled, you can get killed in any...

Model S Gen2 Charger Efficiency Testing

Fascinating thread. I may gather similar results for my car in the future with what I think is Gen1 chargers. Don’t order SR or MR if your winter is cold.

Btw, for those that don't know about this, this is very handy for trip planning: EV Trip Planner Once you're on the road, make sure you use the car's trip planner to predict the SOC when you arrive. Don’t order SR or MR if your winter is cold.

Agreed on SR not being the way to go if you do a lot of long road trips. You can save your money, but if your time is valuable, get the bigger battery. You'll recover some of the loss in resale value too. I had the same dilemma when I was looking at a Model S 60 verses 85 battery and am very...

Don’t order SR or MR if your winter is cold.

Both cars kept in unheated, uninsulated garage. But I do road trips and ski trips that leave the car outside the whole time. You have to remember that this is averaged data from each ~6000 km tire rotations and that short trips are the worst, but with 350 km of range in a Model 3 SR, that's a...

Don’t order SR or MR if your winter is cold.

Honestly, "tricky" is even a strong word. I can guarantee you that on the super charger network, if you charge to 90% SOC in the Model 3 SR, you'll be able to make it to the next SC driving the speed limit, even in -40 weather, without worry for at least the first million kilometers of its life.

Don’t order SR or MR if your winter is cold.

As you can see in my signature, I have a "classic" Model S P85+. I live in Calgary where we get as cold as -35˚C and 20-30cm snow dumps. I've always done tire rotations every ~6k km and track economy during that timespan. On my Acura TL, the winter fuel economy (14-14.5 L/100km) was always 30%...

Could the Ontario Grid support an all-electric fleet?

I think you're in the ball park. I noticed you assumed a P85 only goes 400 km on a full charge and that a full charge is 85 kWh. Cool. Thanks for answering most of the questions and more. I know with the remote API, you can set the Valet pin.
