    Tesla BEV Competition Developments

I’m willing to wait. A clay model is more than Tesla has in this segment.

    Supercharger - Invermere, BC

Yah, there's definitely a handful of food options in about a 5 minute walking radius. The Esso station itself has a small but pretty well stocked food market. The hotel in the background of the photo is Copper Point, and there is a fancy-ish restaurant there. On the other side of the Esso is...

    Supercharger - Shelby, MT

In all fairness, the sales people at Tesla said these superchargers were "imminent" back in 2015 when I started looking at the Model X.

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

Absolutely, but I don’t even drive a Tesla. Calgary drivers were bad to start but since COVID things have really gone downhill. No one has any patience, even though they’ve got nowhere to go.

    Western Canada Superchargers

Maybe someone should warn Tesla about the major construction planned on Hwy 1 east of Golden. For the next several years, there will full closures lasting months. The detour via the 95/93 will add about 100km driving distance from Golden to Canmore, so a supercharger in Radium would be really...

I'm still blown away they haven't built anything in Montana that would directly link Calgary with the US network. I remember being promised they were imminent by the sales folk at the then brand-new Chinook store. This was pre-Model X days, so I think like 2015?

That looks good, but I think we all know this will be axed immediately if the UCP wins the upcoming election (and that seems likely). I hope this isn’t too political (please vote however you want), but Jason Kenney has made very deliberate anti-EV and anti-Tesla comments in the past.

I'm curious who did your install and whether you'd recommend them? I'm giving serious thought to putting in a system while the rebate is still around (don't expect it to last beyond the election). $2.45 before rebate sounds like a pretty good price. I'm also in Calgary.

    Rivian Automotive

The Model X is a crossover (a coupe one at that), it's not an SUV by the conventional definition. The fact that it is popular with "moms and families" is irrelevant to me. I'm glad it's found a niche, but that niche is at one end of the crossover/SUV spectrum. All I care about is whether I can...

Rivian - Electric Truck - Reveal set for Nov 30 at LA Auto Show

Sorry, but that's pretty much the definition of nitpick. Sure, I don't "need" much of anything, none of us do. Perhaps one day I'll abandon all worldly goods, but for the moment I have stuff and I "need" to move it around.

Rivian - Electric Truck - Reveal set for Nov 30 at LA Auto Show

That's obvious, though. The R1T/S are larger, it'd be truly miraculous if they were more energy efficient than something smaller. Calling them equivalent to "gas guzzlers" is clearly meant to be disparaging, and completely ignores the fact that the capabilities are entirely different and folks...

If you're really worried about this, just order the car with the black exterior and black interior. The car is a greenhouse, so it will passively trap solar energy and warm the interior space, even in winter.

    Western Canada Superchargers

CCS/CHAdeMO fast charge stations opened up very recently in Cranbrook, Canal Flats, and Radium to get up the valley. I'd certainly support a supercharger in Cranbrook, but I think one mid-valley in Radium Hot Springs would probably be more popular, given the amount of tourist traffic that...

    Model 3 Canada

Same dates for me. I'm not day 1, I reserved about 7 months in. Non-owner. This makes me suspect those dates are mostly placeholders. I'd be thrilled to get an AWD Model 3 this year, but I really doubt that will happen.

Petition to add tow hitch to Model 3

For you, perhaps. For me, a hitch is an absolute requirement (not for towing but for a bicycle rack). That's why I currently drive an SUV, but put a hitch on an affordable long range electric car and that combination becomes really interesting to me. The Model Y is probably what I ultimately...
  33. Porfiry

    What about the tow hitch?

Can't speak for others, but I just need to attach a hitch mounted bicycle rack. I've never towed anything and I doubt I ever will, but a bicycle rack is on my vehicle all summer, and occasionally in winter.
  34. Porfiry

    What about the tow hitch?

A quick Google says that it's a Japanese restaurant that also does a breakfast service, though the bulgogi on the menu suggests it's a Korean run operation. It's actually well reviewed on TripAdvisor. I've never been but I'm sure it's better than Tim Hortons (in that almost anything would be...

Tesla's been promising those superchargers will open "soon" for years, and yet here we are. They might be on the future map, but I won't believe it until the electrons are actually flowing.
  39. Porfiry

    What about the tow hitch?

The 3, with an accessory hitch, is pretty close to perfection for me. Without a hitch it’s utterly useless and I will not buy it. That’s Tesla’s decision, whether they care to have me as a customer or not.

    Road Trip over the Rockies

It says the Sicamous visitor centre has a standard EV plug (J1772) which just requires a cheap adapter (you may already have one?). Even if you don't charge up in Sicamous, I'd still recommend stopping at the Dutchmen Dairy for some ice cream. :)
  42. Porfiry

    Road Trip over the Rockies

I'd do some research on evtripping.com and plugshare.com. You should be fine, but if you're in trouble there's a public EV charger in Sicamous. Tesla actually has a Sicamous supercharger on its 2017 map, so you might even get lucky if it opens before your trip.

Best Bike Rack for Model X

I don't have an X, but that is the bike rack I currently use. It's alright for a basic rack, but given the choice I'd buy something nicer. Once on the car it works well, but it's a hassle to mount and unmount (you need a wrench). Unlike most modern racks, it doesn't tilt or swing out of the...

    Starting to lose faith

You cannot compare a carrier subsidized USD price ($399 USD) to an unlocked CAD price ($899 CAD). Contrary to your claim, Apple is actually very consistent in pricing. $649 USD has been the launch price of every base level unlocked iPhone, from the iPhone 4 onwards. (Prior models were only...

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

The big difference between the i3 and the 3 is going to be range. The i3 has about half the range, but isn't that cheap at $43k. A base Model 3 will be around $46k. Yes, the options will pile on very quickly, but if an i3 is sufficient for your needs, then I'm pretty sure a base RWD, 60kWh...

Any Upcoming BEVs with AWD besides the Germans?

It seems to me that Audi has entirely backed away from a BEV. Their e-tron concept is now the Q8 concept, and there's no mention at all of a BEV, only PHEV and (sigh) gas-only options. Disappointing but not surprising from a dinosaur company.
