S/X Palladium Motorized Screen Tilt Kit

Just a status update. Still waiting on v2 of the custom gears from the gear cutter. Will likely have them next week. Sources have confirmed to me these gears are why tilting wasn't shipped in the cars; their design is faulty and leads to inevitable failure. Unfortunately this was discovered too...

S/X Palladium Motorized Screen Tilt Kit

Understood, but to clarify, the integration options would require connecting a single plug from the kit into a connector in the dash. That's all. No messing with wires necessary.

S/X Palladium Motorized Screen Tilt Kit

Completely changes the feel of the car. This is the mechanical implementation. It's easy to implement but proving tricky to implement reliably and repeatedly - the mechanism was designed to be powered, after all. As such I highly recommend one of the powered options. A second pass of the gears...

S/X Palladium Motorized Screen Tilt Kit

Very early first pass of powered tilt. Final gears will be smoother and quieter. I'm about halfway through creating a kit for those of us who wish to retrofit tilting capabilities to our Palladium S's and X's. This is a result of an intense hunt for motors matching the complete mechanism, and...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

If you're handy, you could implement a manual swivel right now. Remove your mechanism and remove the worm drive screws. Tighten the carrier fingers to add friction so the screen doesn't slide around of it's own accord. Voila. Would only require the right sockets and torx bits. The only thing I'd...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

The 99-E is the first change I've seen to the mechanism part number, and considering the drawings in the EPC have been unreliable, that change could indicate a significant rework to the mechanism. Or maybe basically nothing. Only way to know is to see one. I'm currently working on a solution...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

That's definitely not the case. Motors are still shown in the EPC, cars are shipping with the mechanism, engineers at the launch event were under the impression it was just a software issue, and I have it on good authority the reason the motors were pulled at the last second was because of...

Ugh. Distribution center sent 00-E. Trying to convince them to contact the distribution center directly and ensure another delivery of 99-E. Edit: "We advise checking back in a few weeks." Sigh.

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Come hell or high water I WILL make screen tilting happen. I know a lot of people don't care but the car was clearly ergonomically designed with screen tilting in mind and suffers from it's absence. It boggles my mind that the company that made falcon wing doors was stumped by a tilting screen...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Latest developments on screen tilting: Gear cutter is still working on creating a new worm drive interface. No ETA. The part number for the tilt mechanism has been changed in the EPC, from 1607360-00-E to 1607360-99-E. I was just in a service center and placed an order for the new pn. They...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Tesla released the updated Model X wiring schematic. Weirdly, still none for the S. The table of contents says one of the pages is for "Steering, Display Actuators" but only has information for steering. No mention of trim light engines. Motorized mechanisms are still present in the parts catalog.

    Refreshed MS LR/Plaid Firmware status

Speaking of WiFi - is the WiFi reception in anyone else's Plaid awful? I've stood in front of the car holding my router and the car will barely pick up the SSID. Meanwhile my X next to it has a strong connection. Brought it up to service and they shrug it off.

Got the invite earlier as well. Opted in, but have no score since the rollover. Had 100's prior, but I'm inclined to think the safety scores don't have much weight on the rollout. If anyone's keeping track, mine's a March '17 X90D.

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Part came in. Mechanism sans motors, as I expected. Trying to follow up but I'm not expecting much - this is a perpetually jammed LA service center, they've got their own priorities. I still haven't seen a Palladium X. Meanwhile the mechanism I already had and the corresponding seat motors are...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Depends entirely on the cost of components. The seat motors are about $80 each from ebay, you'll need two. But the new motor gears are likely to be expensive given they'll be a custom fab. It'll be at least $1k for the job I'm sure, but I don't know how many gears that'll yield yet.

Pictures of the mechanism and videos of how it works (Wobble is because the drill chuck isn't center on the screw). I'm seeing a gear cutter tomorrow morning to inquire about fabricating the correct gear interface between the drive screw and motor. Once I have that, throw in an Arduino, and I'll...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

Model X EPC shows all trim having light and version 1 of the complete tilt motor mechanism. Model S EPC shows the IP trim having light but none in the door trims. It originally showed the version 1 tilt mechanism with no motors, and now shows a version 2 mechanism with new kinds of motors...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

In regard to the tilt mechanism, at this point I'm guessing it was a design issue. The original design uses Model 3 (and now S/X) seat tilt motors, of which they must have plenty. Granted, the motors utilize a different worm drive in the tilt mechanism, but that's a machining fabrication...

    Wiki 2021+ Model S Refresh - Missing/Incomplete Software Features

For anyone else still wondering what may be happening with screen tilt and the light elements in the trim, there's been a few developments. Originally, the parts catalog for the new S showed the tilt mechanism sans motors as delivered in our cars, and no light elements in the trim. The catalog...

Maybe a little off-topic, but what kind of range loss is everyone experiencing overnight, sentry off? Mine's pretty high. Lost 7 miles of range over 10 hours versus 1 mile loss in my 2017 Model X.

I'm 6' tall, and I like to sit close and high relative to the dash for a good line of sight over the hood. The far side of the screen feels like it's a mile away while I'm driving and the UI appears skewed from my perspective. Screen tilt would greatly improve UI interaction for me. Voice command?

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

I now seem to get 12v in all cases. Previously, the OVMS would die the second I pulled the key from the ignition, regardless of any other systems running. I'll try a factory reset next weekend and see if that fixes the persistence issue.

Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Was indeed an OVMS issue. I think there was something wrong with the firmware. Going through the config failed a few times with the car off - I'd name the wifi AP yet "OVMS" would persist as a separate AP, and my named AP would die and fail to return after skipping the firmware update steps and...

Indeed. Measuring it through the DB9 or just attaching leads to the pins donned on me immediately after I tried probing directly but I didn't have much time and was being foolishly impatient. Open Vehicle Monitor System (OVMS) - Technical Discussion

Good to know about that command. I tried manually measuring the voltage while the car was off from the diagnostic port with a multimeter and accidentally bridged 12v to ground for a split second. Got a small spark. Car/VDS/OVMS continued to act as before so it seems I didn't damage anything, but...

Having an issue using my OVMS v3. Everything's set up properly and when it's on it works, but my diag port doesn't seem to supply a constant 12v.
