Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

Update: Just wanted to provide an update to this project in case anyone comes across this thread and is curious how I proceeded. I returned all the original equipment and went with a 24v inverter/battery bank setup. This decreases the amount of amps that needs to flow between the battery and...

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

Ordering Samlex 24v PST-2000 Inverter. According to the manual "Bonding of AC Output Neutral to Chassis Ground The Neutral slots of the NEMA5-20R GFCI Duplex Receptacles (5, Fig 6.1) are internally bonded to the metal chassis of the inverter." So with any luck this inverter will work with the...

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

I attached a GFCI outlet to the inverter. My receptacle tester shows it has "Open Ground". Apparently this inverter like many generators has a Floating Neutral. Some people use some type of Neutral Ground Bonding Plug. I'm not sure that is safe. I might just find an inverter that has the...

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

That is just 1 battery. If I can get this going I can buy 4 200ah batteries and connect them in parallel. That's enough for about 9 kwh. I could drive 40 miles in my Fiat. So I just watched a video of a guy charging his BMW i3 with a Yeti 3000 - big Lithium Battery/Inverter combo that costs...

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

Yeah, it would be 120 Amps. It is high, but it's a short distance between the battery bank and the Inverter. Maybe 2 feet or so. My plan was to just buy a 4/0 gauge Cable from Home Depot, as well as set the Tesla to fewer than 12 Amps. Also switching to a 24V Battery would cut the Amps in...

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

I just ran a 12 gauge copper wire from the bottom connection of the Inverter and stuck the other end into the Earth. I really didn't know what else to do.

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.

I purchased an inexpensive 100 Watt 12V Solar kit. Can only produce about half a kwh per day at most. I bought a 105 amp hour Flooded Lead Acid deep discharge marine battery from a local battery store, and a 3,000 Watt 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverter from Amazon...

My Experience With a Flooded Model S in Houston

Michael, It sounds like you did buy my car. Small world. Good luck with your project. How much did the car cost you at auction? Would be happy to answer any questions for you if I can. It all worked out well for us. Got a new MS 75 RWD in September.

MS sometimes not recognizing driver from keyfob

I've had the same issue. My keyfob is linked to my profile, and most of the time it doesn't switch to my profile when I get in. In our case we only have 1 profile linked to a keyfob. I wasn't sure if I set something up wrong, or just a software bug. Not a big deal, would assume if a software...

    Old 75 (5.4 0-60) vs New 75 (4.3 0-60)

I owned a 2015 S70 RWD. The acceleration was great. It was very quick. After a flood loss we got S75 RWD (Aug 2017 Build). Yes, it is noticeably faster. Whether it's worth the extra expense is pretty subjective. Keep in mind also the recent builds have a lot of other standard features in...

    Tax Credit Clarification

I believe the end of September total is close to 146,000. But let's assume it's just 140,000. Last Q4/Q1 Tesla delivered 24,075 cars in the U.S. according to IEV. For a variety of reasons MS/MX sales have been and will likely continue higher than last year's pace (Increased 0-60 times/Many...

    Tax Credit Clarification

Agreed. But first they'll deliver Long Range versions. How many 35k versions do you think they'll deliver by June 30, 2018?
  15. ericonline

    Tax Credit Clarification

At the rate their selling the MS/MX the magic number for M3 sales is probably closer to 25k. The improved 0-60 times combined with all the new standard options has made the MS/MX a great value. Keep in mind the expiring tax credit will also spur MS and MX sales. And as we get closer many mid to...

    Auto presenting handles disabled

Mystery Solved! We discovered the front passenger handle will present when we push it kinda hard. Perhaps this is the same issue other folks are having? Not a big deal for us now that we know what to do. I'm sure Tesla can adjust or replace the handle.

Upon further testing, it seems only the front passenger door handle doesn't work properly. Auto-Present: On, Passive Entry: On, Door Unlock Mode: All Firmware 2017.38 f87c64d5 When approaching car all handles present as normal. But when cars handles go back in (whether car is locked or not)...

    Auto presenting handles disabled

Having basically the same issue. I did NOT disable the self presenting handles, but if I manually lock the doors I often can't back in by pressing the handles. I must double click the fob. I just got delivery yesterday, but this is our 2nd Model S. So I'm familiar with how it normally works and...

    Model S 75 (RWD) leftovers now showing as 5.4 0-60 vs 4.3?

Yeah, it has the new back seats. I didn't realize how new they were til you mentioned it. Can't enjoy them yet as we just placed two large carseats back there. How did you know the alcantara is now standard? I haven't seen any mention of that. I just check the product codes from the...

    Model S 75 (RWD) leftovers now showing as 5.4 0-60 vs 4.3?

Same as you. I just received a similar inventory car, S75RWD late Aug build. The web site specs make no sense, especially for a car like the ones produced in August - well after they started producing cars with the "Improved Performance"/New Drive Unit. I haven't tested my car scientifically...

    Politics - Quarantine Thread

Just picked up our S75 RWD inventory car today. So far so good. Fit and finish seem fine. Passenger door requires decent force to close, but hopefully improves over time. Late August build, and we even got a few unexpected extras - 72 amp charger and the black alcantata headliner. It was a pain...

75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

Warrenbecker said yesterday his kw output rose from 280 to 337 (on his 75D). So wouldn't this be a simple way to see if your MS has the increased performance? If your kw output maxes out around 280, you have the old performance - around 337 the higher performance. Just a theory. Perhaps...

    Inventory 75 and 75D now show 0-60mph 5.4s

Very odd indeed. Many of these inventory were built well after they announced the increased performance in early July. It doesn't seem to make sense that these are listed at 5.4. Perhaps there was so much confusion and uncertainty over which inventory cars had the increased performance that...

    Anyone with a crystal ball...

Agreed. This is contrary to what many believe (or are at least hoping for) - that on October 1 Tesla will lower the 75D to 70k or maybe raise the battery to 80/85 without raising the prices. It seems MS/MX sales have been fine since the release of the M3. Everyone needs to keep in mind the...

High Amperage Charger On Inventory Cars - Now Standard on MS?

Anyone else notice a bunch of the inventory 75 RWD cars that recently popped up have High Amperage Charger listed, and at no additional cost? Model S 75 5YJSA1E11HF214022 | Tesla A couple of the 75D listings seem to have it too but not many. Model S 75D 5YJSA1E21HF214241 | Tesla Correct me...

AP 2.0 vs. AP 2.5 - Rain Sensing Wipers?

AP 2.0 vs. AP 2.5 - Rain Sensing Wipers?

Thank you Hank and Boaterva! Great info. I looked up the codes for the inventory car I was considering (build date Aug 17) and it showed APH3. So I think I'll go ahead and try to get that one.

AP 2.0 vs. AP 2.5 - Rain Sensing Wipers?

Hey everybody. I'm deciding between keeping my custom order (S75 RWD VIN 221###) or switching to an inventory car (Prod date "Late August" VIN 214###). To begin with, there have been so many changes as of late (Drive Unit?, etc.), I'm a little skeptical of buying something from inventory...

How do you tow a dead Tesla?

Yeah, you need some type of wheel lift truck to drag it. Just went through it. Call Tesla roadside. Those guys know how to do it if you need it moved soon. They know how to do it without damaging the front end too, by using wood planks.

    Firmware 7.0 - For Classic Model S

Sorry if this has already been addressed. For newer cars (Mine is a 70 RWD) with the AP hardware, that don't have the AP software upgrade - Do we still keep the original speedometer? I've resisted upgrading as I don't want to lose the speedometer with energy usage and regen indicators.
