Autopilot more sensitive after the latest updates?

I find it best to just rest one hand on the steering wheel with autopilot on. It provides just enough torque for it to know you're there. I used to keep both hands on and it can't tell if you have any hands on at all.

    Any experience with Nankang AR-1?

I've heard good things on other forums about the AR-1's for track junkies, as they're cheaper, have pretty good grip, and last longer than the other options. I haven't heard as much about the ones that are more suited for the street : Nankang NS-2R. They might work well for Autocross, but don't...

    AutoX class question

I found they don't care until you're beating them. Last year I just said I was in STU, because that seems like where it *should* go with just wider wheels. (I was only running 235 wide tires, and I still go dirty looks in BS)

Premature tire wear from regen braking system

I have a P3D, and a Model S 90D. The 90D had near perfect tire wear without rotating tires. The P3D wears more on the rear. I think the major difference is that the P3D uses different motors front and rear. The regen (and forward moving) force is stronger on the rear tires due to having...

    Track Tire/wheel Set Advice

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 or Sottozero 3?

This! is probably the most significant difference. I put some studless snow and ice tires on my cars before, and I won't do that again. There is too much tire squirm for me. But, for my wife's Model S, we put on the Nokian WR-G3 (or 4), and they're fine. They're more of an all season tire that's...

    Mystery Clunk under Hard Braking

I've heard that clunking issue a few times autocrossing my car. I have 19x9.5" +35mm offset wheels, but 235mm tires. So, it's unlikely the tires hitting. Or more specifically, it's unlikely to be caused by wider tires.

    SCCA Autocross

My wife went autocrossing with me her second time last weekend. The advice that seemed to help her was, follow the course (that's why they say walk it a few times) and then add speed by trying to keep it tight (stay close to the important cones so you're not wasting distance/time going way...

SCCA Autocross Class for the Model 3

Thanks again for the info. Please let us know if you hear anything about official classing. I guess I'll have to be more careful that I look at the recent rules. 265 width is clearly a lot better for us.

SCCA Autocross Class for the Model 3

Any update on classing? I ran in B Street for the first autocross event, but I heard some grumbling about my wider wheels. So, I ran with BSP next event. I think now I'll register for STU, since I'm running narrow enough tires for AWD (max is 245 for STU), and the PAX is lower than BSP. I...

    Track Tire/wheel Set Advice

Because the 235's were lighter, cheaper, and probably more efficient on the road. And, I wasn't sure if this car was going to end up being my autocross car or not. But, I'll probably go wider next time, but that's mostly because they look silly stretched wide like that. They did perform very...

    Aero wheels on P3D+

Yeah, I feel like doing a DIY aero wheel cover for the winter. Summer range isn't generally an issue, and I don't want to cover the brakes just in case. But, in the winter, warming brakes shouldn't be so much of a concern, and I need to make up for the lost efficiency.

I also purchased some Konigs from Discount Tire, and it came with the long nuts. I was very not happy. But, then I calmed down. MPP AWD/Performance Coilover Impression and Installation

On my Penske's (on my Lotus), I adjusted the compression to 'more stiff' and it helped not bottom out on big bumps (made it smoother) while making the normal road a little bit more rough. Racing Brake XT910 vs XT970

Yeah, all the ones I linked in my spreadsheet are flow formed and reasonably light. Not sure if it's correct, but Discount Tire says Tire Load Capacity 1521 I remember seeing some other wheels that were a lot heavier with a load rating of around 2000 pounds. Not sure the value of that.

I agree with your post. I just need to point out that the Lotus Elise and derivatives are closer to 1800 pounds. I believe the stated wet weight is less than 2000 pounds for the NA versions. The newer ones with the V6's are obviously more, but it's still quite amazing how light they are...

    Model 3 Roof Rack Options

I feel like with the J screw adapter things from Tesla's kit, you should be able to mount the same sort of kit from the Model S, which would allow longer bars to be put on. I wonder how long until we just can order the J screws and then I can move my rack between my S and 3.

Top Gear Magazine: Model 3 Performance is faster around a track than the BMW M3!

I agree. Sometimes I feel like I should put less grippy tires on my car to make things more fun. I'm pretty sure the Model 3 is faster at just about everything than the Elise. It's mostly just the steering feel and directness. Also, the Elise's throttle response actually seems faster than the...

Wider Pilot Sport 4S tires on stock 18-inch wheels installed and tested

Your 255 tires are also probably about 2% smaller in diameter. It's quite possible that the power control from the 3 is limiting max torque by limiting what it thinks the wheel speed is. It'd be interesting to get tires that are slightly larger to see if they help the externally measured 0-60...

P3D- stickier tire tests: 3.0 secs?

Humorously, it's quite possible that the fastest wheel/tire combo would be 17" front with like 185 wide, and 18" rear with 205. That should allow for the lightest wheels and tires. Particularly considering that grip isn't the limitation, you could choose lighter, less grippy tires.
