I can no longer, in good conscience, recommend Tesla vehicles.

So we've had a bit of a derail here about whether this is clickbait. That accusation doesn't make sense to me - what happens if people take the bait? How do I benefit? But that aside, my point was to highlight the part above here. IMO, they are burning early adopters. There needs to be much...

I can no longer, in good conscience, recommend Tesla vehicles.

I sure hope not. But what if it does? There are no 2013/14 Model 3 or Y's out there. Should we expect or tolerate if these cars all start falling apart when they hit 5-7 years old?

I can no longer, in good conscience, recommend Tesla vehicles.

This is a painful thread to write. I've been a huge booster of Tesla. I've been an investor at times. I've only ever really had one possession goal: a Tesla EV. I believe in the company's mission, and the impact they have had on the industry has been very positive. Several friends have bought...

2016 Model S door handle presents but door wont open when the door handle is pulled

I am going to bump this thread because I'm having the same issue. 2014 S85. Not sure which gen of door handle - I guess I have to tear the whole door apart to figure out? Are there any fixes without having to break down the door? Somewhere I can squirt WD40? :P

Air conditioner fails twice in two years - advice appreciated?

I think this take is right. If I go into my car right now and crank the AC it's working. The issue is if I'm driving on a hot day for a long time, the fan stops blowing air - cold air keeps trickling out. And even, when I have it on recirculating, I can hear a fan blowing intensely - just no air...

Air conditioner fails twice in two years - advice appreciated?

I've been reading up on this, but what doesn't add up to me is that the vents are still trickling out cold air. What fails is the fan that blows air into the cabin. If I turn things off for a few min, then on again, the fan works once again. I feel like if the fuse was gone, it just fully...

Air conditioner fails twice in two years - advice appreciated?

Update: I picked up the car today and talked to the guy at the centre. I was quite pointed in my questioning... I pointed out it’s weird that when the system was totally broken they fixed it by replacing the compressor. Now that it’s just underperforming they’re telling me they need to replace...

Air conditioner fails twice in two years - advice appreciated?

Just to add to this, the service centre has offered to give us two months to consider getting the work done wherein they would still honour the 10% off deal on the compressor itself. I'm still highly skeptical about all this.

Air conditioner fails twice in two years - advice appreciated?

Short version: I replaced the compressor in my 2014 Model S just two years ago. Service is telling me it has failed again and want to charge me $4000 for the full fix. Something feels off about all this, and so I'm seeking advice. Longer version: In 2019, I bought a used 2014 Model S85. I...

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Sorry if this has been answered already but I've searched a few times on the forum and haven't found an answer. I have a 2014 S85 with dual chargers. I've been using a J1772 40 amp charging station, as that's what we bought back when we had a Volt. But now we've moved into a new house and I'd...

Model S Low Coolant! What type of coolant does an MS take?

I got the infamous Vehicle Coolant is Low error message (code THC_w0105). This code comes and goes - when I get in the car, the error message is there, but driving just down the street causes it to disappear. It seems to primarily appear when parked. I opened up the frunk and had a look and it...

Prepping a Model S for long distance shipping?

My 2014 S85 is about to move all the way across the continent. It'll take about three weeks to arrive and I'm worried about phantom drain on the battery. Is there a "shipping mode" or something that one should put a Model S into before shipping? I saw reference to Transport Mode on the forums...

    Doubt:Buy Model S used 2014 or wait I can afford M3

I struggled with this dilemma for a while. Ended up going with 2014 S85, with 120,000 km on the odometer. I love the car. But it hasn't been cheap to operate. Have had to replace: - Brake rotors and pads (all 4) - Parking brake - Windshield washer fluid pump - A/C compressor - One door handle...

Off-grid charging: Critique my extension cord plan

Is this the recall you're referring to? NEMA 14-30, 10-30, 6-50 Adapter Recall

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

I have a new issue with my 2014 Model S. The wheels are making a squeaking sound at low speeds. I've attached an audio clip: 2014 Model S squeak - Clyp - this is taken from inside the car, going about 10 km/h on a side street. I alternated between regenerative braking, acceleration, and...

Off-grid charging: Critique my extension cord plan

So basically if I do something stupid (like try to draw 40 amps when plugged into a NEMA 14-30) I'd risk a fire? Other than trying to draw too many amps, can you think of anything else that would cause it to heat up or catch fire? I really don't want to burn cabins down but I also want to...

Off-grid charging: Critique my extension cord plan

I recently got a model S and live in Newfoundland, which is among the worst jurisdictions in North America for charging EVs. I'm planning some road trips and intend to do a lot of charging with NEMA 14-30 dryer plugs. So, my question: If I bought one of these: Heavy-duty NEMA 14-50R extension...

Buying a used Model S - Add Lubrico extended warranty?

I live in St. John's NL, and am in the process of buying a used 2014 Model S (assuming it passes inspection). The place I'm buying from offers extended warranty packages: $2600 for two-years of 40,000 km from a company called "Lubrico." I'll paste the flyer below. I'm on the fence. Living on...

Obtaining a dealer license to buy used Teslas?

So this forum has been filled with a litany of disastrous stories about buying used Teslas through their customer-facing website. As we all know, used car sales for Tesla are now handled through Manheim, which is why there are so many problems getting good pictures and stuff. But I'm wondering...

Model 3 Servicing in remote places

Thanks for this - telling me what I want to hear - that this is doable! LOL (But I appreciate all the comments on this thread, including the skeptical ones)

Model 3 Servicing in remote places

This worries me too. The ridiculous volumes of rock salt they use just destroy cars here. One perk of the Model S was the aluminum body... but I just don't have the $$$ for the S.

Model 3 Servicing in remote places

Hmm. Thanks for the advice. Quebec City is the closest service centre - which is at least a two-day commute, assuming they actually enable the Model 3 to work with CHAdeMO chargers (since there are no superchargers in Nova Scotia). If they don't then it's a three-day commute on level 2 charging...

Model 3 Servicing in remote places

With the recent news about the eye-popping safety statistics on the Model 3, I'm finally considering making the leap. Problem: I live in one of the places in North America that is most hostile to EV ownership: St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Nearest service centre is Montreal - days of...

    Contacting Tesla to discuss a utility-scale project=

I actually did both those things... no luck yet. I also tried directly phoning their energy sales line indicated on the Contact Us page. It took me to a residential sales rep that had no further ability to forward me on. I'm hoping someone on this forum is plugged in and would have a direct...

    Contacting Tesla to discuss a utility-scale project=

I am the lead of a team of researchers and entrepreneurs pushing for clean energy in Canada's Arctic. We are trying to put together a proposal to government to fund a large-scale renewable project that would largely depend on Tesla Powerpacks and other similar technology. In an effort to ensure...

Renting a Model S for a Vancouver - Whistler day trip?

I am an EV fan living in St. John's NL. I'm visiting my family in Van for Christmas and was trying to think of something fun to do with my younger brother (he's ten, I'm 30). I was thinking a one-day Tesla rental for a road trip to Whistler and back could be fun. But are there any rental...
