2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

Ugh, this sounds like a terrible situation. Did you eventually get a trade-in value from Tesla? What was the final result for you?

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

So again, I'm crazy late in responding, have been off the forum and missing notifications apparently. If you're still interested, let me know and we can private message or email.

So sorry to hear about the accident. How did this work out for you in the end? Curious how much different this may be in Europe.

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

From my experience and countless others on this forum and those of other owners clubs, yes. Absolutely, yes. You may find it isn't all that much more money to work with another carrier - and for a Tesla... that's a lot of liability.

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

The problem with these new car replacement riders is the 1st party carrier has to deem it a total loss as you say. For Teslas that equation doesn't always work in our favor. In my case, a 94k pre-loss appraisal with a $35k salvage means the threshold to total in repair costs were 94k - 35k =...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

I take it from your comment that you feel I should have waited the 6 months for the repair, accepted 30 days of a basic rental car, paid for remaining 150 days out of pocket, accepted the repaired vehicle and the problems that brings, and settled for not being able to sell it without dropping...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

Arg, I'm so sorry I missed all these notifications - so much guilt now :-( I was put in touch with a legal service my employer provides to ask some questions over the phone, but I never got them involved directly - other than to threaten GEICO with, and fortunately I didn't have to follow...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

Undortunately, in a situtation like mine, it didn't matter at all what insurance I had, because the other party was at fault, and was adequately (barely) insured. That said, in the event of it being our own fault, be sure to have sufficient property damage to cover the cost of your car. Also be...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

How did this turn out for you in the end? Assuming it's all said and done by now (which... sadly... isn't a given with these things).

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

I did not have the third row seats. The rear took a lot of damage. Here's another photo after the partial tear down: The salvage was estimated at $35k, yes. (Someone else found the insurance auction for it and it sold for $43k). The Diminished Value is how much the LESS the car would be...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

I'm so late in responding, apologies. I missed the previous however many notifications I guess. The problem with riders like these is the following clause from the above link: "... when your car is deemed a total loss... " In order for that to be of any value to you, the car has to be deemed...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

I called Tesla to try and get information about diminished value. They wouldn't even give me a rough number for the expected delta. Sources suggest anything with structural damage cannot qualify for cpo.

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

My 2016 Facelift Tesla Model S 90D had AP1, Gray Leather, Matte Obeche, and a Panoramic Roof. It was $99,950 new including the refferal discount. It had 5,800 miles on the odometer when we were in the accident. The appraised value was 94,320 by my appraiser and I think 93,200 by Geico...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

Good and accurate summary Canuck, a few clarifications: GEICO was difficult on the order of things. They wouldn't pay off the loan or write me the check until they had the salvage, which meant the shop fees had to be paid. I conferred with my agent, and decided to just pay the fees to get the...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

The .us has laws which separate property damage from bodily injury. In my experience, policies have separate limits for each (although I believe there are some exceptions). The minimums are also separate, and vary by state. In Oregon [1], minimum property damage coverage is $20k. While in...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

Sorry about that - the whole experience was long with lots of commas :-) GEICO paid me $99k (94k + 3k +2k). Out of that I paid the shop fees (~6k) and the loan, although that doesn't really factor in here. The way I look at is I needed to recover $93k (the pre-loss appraised value) for it to be...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

Note that both DV and LOU are something you have to negotiate, and I haven't seen anyone recover these kinds of damages. I considered them as "unknown liability" for the 3rd party carrier which I could use as leverage to convince them to settle with a total loss.

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

I should think you would be able to get that totaled even through 1st Party, you should only need a salvage value of $17k. If that doesn't do it, you might be able to make an argument for risk of supplemental damages. Was it your insurance or the body shop that said it was pretty much totaled...

2016 Model S 90D - Property Damage Claim Post Mortem

After nearly two months, we finally settled our property damage claim after being rear ended in our 2016 Tesla Model S 90D. Insurance claims are something many of us dread about owning a Tesla, a risk we acknowledged going in. I thought I'd share the experience and the outcome in the hope it...

New Model S 90D: Factory Tire Pressure / Sensor Oddity

Ah, ambient temp explains it. Duh. I took delivery in 90+F weather, and temps just dropped significantly this week. Thanks! Will inflate to 42 or so as temps are still likely to spike again before the summer is out, but I suspect we're done with the 100+ days.

New Model S 90D: Factory Tire Pressure / Sensor Oddity

I took delivery on 2016-07-22 of my 2016 Model S 90D refresh. Yesterday the system warned me of low tire pressure for the rear right tire. It read as 37psi. I read the manual, then read the driver door label, which says 45psi for all tires. When cold, I inflated to 45psi and checked the dash...

How long was your wait in line? (I think we were at the slowest store..)

Washington Square mall, Portland Oregon. Arrived at 7am (3 hours prior to opening) and landed about number 100 in line. Tesla brought cookies somewhere along the way. At 10 the line started moving, and by 10:50 I had my reservation. 3h 50m.

With a multi-factor prioritization scheme, I'd agree - time will tell. Let the waiting begin!

Reservation - thanks, but no email...

There is a long thread on this here: Model 3 Reservation Numbers Appearing in My Tesla Note that the Reservation Number is just confirmation that you have a reservation, and appears not to have any meaning regarding your position in line. That appears to come from a second number called a...

Also, the reservation number appears in your my tesla account right after login. I didn't know I had an account, so I reset the password, logged in, and there it was. Others have reported the reservation number appearing before receiving the email.

Reservation - thanks, but no email...

I registered in store at 10:50 AM PDT (Portland, Oregon, USA) and received my confirmation email at 3:06 PM today (28 hours 16 minutes later). I'd give it a day.
