    Fatal Model S accident

I think Tesla should proactively build features to monitor driving behavior, or implement kid's mode. That would save lives and help the brand image.

Model X Crash on US-101 (Mountain View, CA)

"In the US, there is one automotive fatality every 86 million miles across all vehicles from all manufacturers. For Tesla, there is one fatality, including known pedestrian fatalities, every 320 million miles in vehicles equipped with Autopilot hardware. If you are driving a Tesla equipped with...

Elon Musk is the Most Admired Leader in Technology Elon ranked first. Jeff Bezos ranked second. Indeed, Tesla rivals Amazon in how much controversy the stock brings.

While the US delivery in Nov is low, the year to date sales number of 23571 MS and 14348 MX seems to be on track. In comparison, US sales is 22602 MS last year in the same time frame. That is 68% gain yoy.

Charging network barrier of entry is low when they just need to put up 400 stations for tens of thousands of vehicles per year for each of the companies. It will be harder to expand the network to support million vehicles per year as Tesla would in a couple of years. I am impressed that they are...

Elon would be laser focused on making great product. Why would he be afraid of an inferior product that only sell 30000 a year?

Tesla is in another league and is way ahead in terms of customer satisfaction and technology. It's more important to have customers who love the product (Most loved car in America) than winning some tournament (Motor Trend). Would Steve Jobs care about iPhone winning a phone of the year award...

Trump's 100 day plan has no mention of ITC or EV subsidies. Things that are potentially relevant to Tesla are: " FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars' worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal."...

Long term wise, Elon's vision of solar panel charging and M3 at $35000 has to make economic sense without subsidy. Trump's election does not change that. Tesla has strategic interests in low electricity cost, solar just happens to be the right solution. Interestingly Trump actually make...

You can't compare Tesla to today's low PE auto makers to predict Tesla's future value. GM used to be US's most profitable company and enjoyed more than 10% profit margin. It eventually doomed by technology stagnation and globalization. Tesla's long term value lies largely in how it transforms...

The benefit is not just the energy from the solar panel. I have a two story house. My second floor used to have much higher temperature than the ground floor in the summer. After installing solar on the roof, second floor temperature dropped to the same as the ground floor. For cars, I only buy...

My Model S is pretty much flawless so I am not sure about the doubt of Tesla as a manufacturer. Model X has issues because of the complexity of the doors. I am actually impressed that Tesla is making so many Model X now.

For the past Q we see Tesla has good operating leverage. Elon also talked about scaling through improving the efficiency of machine that makes the machine. If BMW can scale to 500k in one plant, there is no reason Tesla can't do more.

People compare Tesla with Apple. It hasn't happened yet. Model S/X is too expensive. If Apple sells iPhone for $1200 there will be no developers and no Appstore. With Model 3 and SW update, Tesla becomes a platform that scales to millions of people.

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2016

It is weird. One thing I realized is that Model S/X has high price, so not a lot of people, including journalists, can afford it and experience the car. That leaves room for speculation and misinformation. Model 3 will change that.

I am not sure about the maturity of Silevo's technology at this point. Given their current situation, would Solarcity be able to raise the capital to build the Gigafactory themselves? Will Panasonic trust them enough to work with them? Tesla's acquisition makes both possible.

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2016

Here is my prediction: Five years from now people will take it for granted to purchase solar panel, storage and Tesla EV together. They will also get used to solar panels to charge EVs in the supercharger. Tesla customers double their electricity usage after they purchase the car, it makes so...

I'm skeptical: financial viability of Tesla-exclusive rideshare service

I use both Uber and Lyft apps. A lot of drivers drive for both too. By the time Tesla network is allowed by regulators, there will be more than one million self driving Tesla on the road. Even with a fraction of owners sharing, it would be the same number as Uber today.

    Model S crash: Germany 9/28/16

Good human drivers not only drive correctly, but also react to other people's mistakes. That's what really reduced rate of accident because there's some fault redundancy. AP adds more to the redundancy as driver can be more alert. But driver has to pay attention, and not all accidents can be...

Mobileye rips Tesla Autopilot, Chairman says it dumped Tesla

I watched several videos of Amnon on the self driving technology and he is a great guy. But too bad he can't take the heat. The one who can't take the heat can't lead in self driving technology. Now many startups and Uber developed their own technology, and car manufacturers like GM are...

    Does using AP increase safety?

Speaking from personal experience, media's report on AP accidents helps to keep AP driver to remain attentive. Likely AP accidents will decline after one widely reported accident. Technology improves afterwards. People start to pay less attention, until next accident happens. In the long run...

Mobileye rips Tesla Autopilot, Chairman says it dumped Tesla

It's a failure of Mobileye's technology that can't detect a parked car or big truck from the side. Not only that, its speed of improvement is too slow. Mobileye thinks it can fix some of those problems by 2018, while Tesla improved radar to address the problems in a couple of months.

    Does using AP increase safety?

I think the biggest win of AP is to make driving much less stressful.
  36. R

    Does using AP increase safety?

Only if people's behavior stays the same. With AP, some drivers will pay even less attention to the road. Some may text longer, and some may drink and drive more. Many accidents are caused by those corner cases. So net gain in fatality may be less than we thought.
  37. R

    Does using AP increase safety?

Tesla AP logs 1.5 million miles a day. So it's likely there will be three or more accidents a year. It's inevitable. People who pay attention to the road will be safer with AP, and people who don't pay attention won't.

A Public Letter to Mr. Musk and Tesla For The Sake Of All Tesla Driver's Safety

Thanks for posting the video. I watched it a couple of times. Don't think the cause of the drift is the barrier. There is a stretch of road before the impact that both sides of the lane paint disappeared for one section. That caused a gradual drifting of the vehicle over 4 or 5 lane markers...

A Public Letter to Mr. Musk and Tesla For The Sake Of All Tesla Driver's Safety

My experience in using AP is that the most important thing is to choose where to use AP, even on divided highways. I am always extra careful in construction zones because lanes may disappear. I apply brake early when I see sudden traffic stop ahead. So for me, AP has made my trips safer. The...

A Public Letter to Mr. Musk and Tesla For The Sake Of All Tesla Driver's Safety
