    Battery backup without solar?

I'm trying to find a solution for emergency backup for my 3200 sq ft house. If it were just me in the house, I wouldn't bother. I've been through many power outages. However, I have two tenants in two other apartments, so I really want to have some kind of backup. There's a supercharger about a...

Would Tesla replace SolarEdge inverter / LG battery system with Powerwall?

I just had a long discussion the other day with my solar installer about a similar situation. I too have a 5-year-old SolarEdge system, but without battery backup as I'm part of the TVA program. (VERY long story). I've been trying to figure out how to even get battery backup without having to...

    Be considerate on test drives

It can't be considered a test drive if a Tesla employee doesn't go along. So what's the real story here?

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

I have a niece in a condo complex in the Chicago area, and she said most landlords and HOA's are vehemently against installing any kind of charging. I wanted to sell my Volt to her, but she would have had no way to charge. Until there is a law REQUIRING EV charging, you're going to have this...

Should I keep or trade in my 2018 Tesla P3D for either a Model S (or when available a Highland Model 3)?

I have a 2018 RWD with 56K miles. I've got EAP and lifetime premium connectivity. If you have the money, by all means do what you want. As for me, I haven't noticed any problems that would make me think I need to trade it in. I don't plan to get FSD, and I can still get regular updates. For me...

Keeping my model 3 Long term.

There are instructions in the manual, but basically you just charge to 100%, then drive it down to under 10%, then charge it to 100% again. Others may have different ways of doing it, and I never let it sit at 100% for long.

Keeping my model 3 Long term.

I have a 2018 RWD with 56K miles. I plan on keeping mine as long as possible because it's paid off and has features that newer cars don't. Anyway, I wanted to suggest that you recalibrate your battery if you haven't tried it already. I still get the original 310 miles, and in summer even more.

Out of spec says -"Model 3 is the best!"

The 3 would have been the absolutely hands down perfect car if only it had had a hatchback. But even if Highland has one, I'm not trading mine any time soon.

Someone rear-ended and Totaled my beloved Model 3, sharing my experience, DO NOT make the same mistake I did.

It wasn't so long ago that Tennessee didn't require auto insurance, because 'Murica! Heck, people don't even register their cars here. I see people every day with two-year-expired plates.

Someone rear-ended and Totaled my beloved Model 3, sharing my experience, DO NOT make the same mistake I did.

State Farm - I had them years ago when they totaled my much-loved Mazda 626 LX. They repaired it and it was back on the streets in a few months. I knew it was my car because I live in Nashville and the dealship sticker from Wisconsin was still on it. It's quite the scam. Anyway, I'm with you in...

Model 3 decision time: used now vs new later

I've had my 2018 LR RWD for over 5 years and I still love it and intend to keep it until I can't. I would bet that most problems were already fixed by the previous owner, so you should be good with the drive train warranty. Oh, and I still occasionally get the original rated 310 miles of range...

Anyone getting bored with their car since there are few performance mods?

How about not only a project car, but a project converting an ICE car to EV?
  14. RedModel3

You all have about talked me out of a Tesla altogether...

Kudos to you for considering an EV! I've had my 3 for 5 years now, over 55K miles. Anything that needed work was able to be done within the warranty period. As for battery degradation, originally 310 miles, yesterday at 50% my range was listed as 157 miles! Of course, there is not an exact...

Got clipped by a lost driver [how much will this cost to repair?]

If the car is still drivable, get your insurance company on board, choose a repair facility, and take it in for estimate and to order parts. It could be several months just for the parts to arrive. Once the parts are there, the only real holdup would be if they find more internal damage and have...

    ‘18 M3 noise — control arm issue?

Definitely NOT the control arm. Sorry. Control arm sound is MUCH louder, creakier, more bass, less treble. Like you're trying to move a large pile of junk metal and everything is creaking all at once. It would also change noticeably when you accelerate or step on the brake.

    First Long Distance Drive

You're probably on the road as I write, but what others have said. Also, that stretch in Illinois and Kentucky is REALLY boring, so it's a great time to use your AP. Your charging choices will be limited, but not too terribly inconvenient, and there are plenty of supercharger options once you...

Nail in tire can these pzeros be saved?

You made the right choice. Now it's time to do some research for the future. Discount Tire has other names in other parts of the country, and I know that Costco also can do Tesla tires. See if there is a local or regional Tesla Owners Club and ask who they recommend. By going to a tire store...

Nail in tire can these pzeros be saved?

I'd buy a new one. I had a similar thing happen, and I was told that because the tires are so new I didn't need to get a matching set. Don't go to Tesla, but somewhere like Discount Tire.

    2020 M3 Long Range - 18k miles

I have a 2018 LR RWD with 52K on the clock. It was rated at 310 miles new, and I still routinely get 300 or more miles. Keep in mind that it varies with weather and speed. Cold weather and driving with a heavy foot both eat range. This happens with an ICE car too but you don't notice it as much...

Backed into by suv at 5 mph, complexity of repair (state farm shop)

Hmm. I had a very similar accident but on the front end of the car. It was way less than $10K, but I'm not in CA. I agree it looks like much faster than 5 mph. By all means, your insurance company SHOULD be dealing with the other person's insurance company to have them pay. You should not have...

    2022 M3 LR...First 1500 mile road trip (3k round trip)...suggestions?

I haven't done trips this long, but I've done multiple trips from Nashville to Wisconsin and Nashville to Dallas. Supercharging has never been a problem, and I always check the overall navigation, and then navigate from SC to SC to precondition. While I'm at one supercharger, I'll check out the...

Plenty of superchargers on that route.

model3 FSD or autopilot for 300 miles commute one way

NO car is going to make that situation a viable commute. But, if you ever do get a Tesla, opt for EAP if it's available. FSD just isn't ready yet, but I love having the auto lane changes with EAP. As others have said, you have to remain engaged with the car and the steering wheel, but just...

Rear ended M3 [is this totaled?]

The more important issue is that you were rear-ended by a SEMI and your car wasn't completely obliterated. You survived. We'll never hear about this in the news.

Apartment dweller - is electric car a practical choice?

Is there any way you can park close enough to your apartment to run a heavy duty extension cord to your car? You could trickle charge your car at 110 v and be fine with as few miles as you drive.
  32. RedModel3

2022 M3P Accident, Is the car totaled?

The pictures don't look a whole lot worse than the fender bender I had last year, and it was about a $6K fix.
  33. RedModel3

    Car won’t turn off

If it's a faulty sensor, like Big Earl mentioned, it's possible for Tesla to test remotely to find out if anything is amiss. If it keeps happening after the next update and rebooting, then order service on your app and describe as much of the problem as you can. A faulty sensor seems likely.
  34. RedModel3

What should I be looking for dealing with insurance with this car damage?

Minimum of $5K and several months for repair. I had similar damage from a parking lot accident with another car. Is your car drivable? I can see that the plastic (?) part over the wheel might scrape, and the metal can be bent back. If it's drivable, then speak with the insurance adjuster and go...

Another question: Blue liquid under M3

That is total BS that they won't service the car until the paperwork is done. Call the Roadside 800 number and tell them you can't drive the car. If that doesn't work, you might chance driving it to the service center if it's only a few miles away. Otherwise, I wouldn't drive it. After years...

    Wheel Alignment

Don't go to Tesla for tires!! They overcharge you and you can't get road hazard warranty. I don't know what it's called in California, but in Tennessee many people go to Discount Tire. They know how to lift Teslas, and you get free rotation and repair for the life of the tire. However, they do...

Deposit on demo car made, but Tesla won’t let me drive it before buying, is that normal?

Very possibly. Our local store has been (in the past) very accommodating for test drives for ordering cars, but that was before there were many used cares. I was there a couple of weeks ago for a 12v battery replacement, and the parking lot was absolutely stuffed with cars for delivery. They...

Deposit on demo car made, but Tesla won’t let me drive it before buying, is that normal?

Yes, It is normal, but it shouldn't be. At some point, the company will have to actively promote sales of their cars. Until that day, they've got us by the balls.

No longer able to connect to wi-fi

Update: Part of my problem may have been my 12v battery. The update was pushed to my car via LTE, and a couple of days later I got the dreaded 12v warning, one of which was that no updates would be downloaded until I got a new battery. There may also have been a glitch, because after the update...

No longer able to connect to wi-fi

I've had my car since 2018 and the wifi has worked fine until now. It's currently on 2022.36.6, but for several weeks a software update has been available, but the app shows that I have to connect to Wi-fi to get it. I've tried everything I know of, and I just don't know why I can no longer get...

M3 Hit and Run, how bad is it?

Definitely make sure the cops stay on this, because that is easily 5K of damage. If your car is drivable, which it looks like it is, then figure out where you want to take it. Coordinate with your insurance company, take it to the shop to have them give you an estimate, get the first payment...

    Rear ended multi vehicle 😤😤😩

I definitely wouldn't drive that. I doubt that you will be at fault for any of this, but even so you are in for a very long repair. I had a fender bender in July and the parts just came in last week. Hopefully you have another car to drive, and if not you might want to think about just buying...

I don't know about UK service centers, but when I had my control arms (both sides) replaced it was done by a mobile tech in under two hours.

Sentry Mode: Showing n events, no footage

I had to have two service appointments for this. The first time they replaced the drive. The second time, the mobile tech just gave me (sold me...) a Tesla disk, and I haven't had a problem since.

    Trunk won't open from screen?

you could do a bug report. Press the right scroll wheel to bring up the microphone, then say "bug report" and that you can't open the trunk from the screen. Also, try a reset. I do it after every update. Press and hold the brake pedal and two scroll wheels until the Tesla "T" appears on the screen.

Crazy or no brainer? Trade 2018 LR RWD for 2023 SR RWD?

I see so many people asking about trading their car as soon as the warranty expires. But in reality, isn't this a behavior that was learned during the ICE age? So many more things could go wrong and there was so much service required, that an older ICE car really could be expensive to maintain...

    Trunk won't open from screen?
