    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Do you really think anyone looks at the manual before making a purchase decision? Do you even think anyone has hesitated to recommend a Tesla to a friend because of the manual?

    I hope he's also getting a leaving-the-scene-of-an-accident conviction bonus.

    Supercharger- Kokomo, IN

As to why Kokomo and not other more "obviously" needed places first, I suspect there's more than little opportunism involved in the "planning" process. They put chargers where they can.

You just mean the best car, ever, right? :)

    Well, y'are s'posed to drive it, y'know?! ;)

No need to feel sorry for the dino-fuel-consumer vendors -- they've had their day in the sun, and then some.

Obviously because the coolness aura drops off as the square of the distance from the cool thing!

    Tesla moments

Exactly! Where are all of the comments about the step-by-step realization of the horror of your vehicle selection error? The strange noises, the strange vibration, the strange smells, the sluggish behavior, the cluttered dash...?

I may be mistaken, but I thought I remember hearing that there was no need to rotate tires on Teslas. You should check this.

Yeah, some people are just "okay" with them. That's alright. ;)

    Supercharger - Ithaca, NY

To people coming from towns >=10x the size of Ithaca, being on "the wrong side" of Ithaca isn't terribly significant, compared to not having an SC within 50 miles at all,

    Supercharger - Ithaca, NY

Used it a couple of days ago, about to use it again this afternoon. Every time I've driven by it (or been to it) this week it has been utterly deserted, but I suppose that's common for new SCs in non-Tesla-dense areas.

    Tesla moments

Ya see? This is the problem with computers trying to help people: people are always going around asking for things they don't actually want, and when you give it to them, are they grateful? Nooooooooo! They're all "you should have known what a really meant", and "sure, I said I wanted ... but...

While your larger point stands, I quickly counted multiple backed-in cars in this image, starting with the prominent white pickup in the lower-left corner.

I find autopark works quite well when it deigns to engage at all. There better not be anyone coming up behind you, 'cause you'll confuse the heck out of them with your weirdo Tesla parking maneuver.

    Tesla Crash in Indy

It seems they've both paid for any transgressions against one another. Are we saying that people now have an obligation to remain sufficiently in command of their faculties to prevent other people, who are "judgment-compromised", from doing stupid/dangerous things? More specific, in this case...

No, they're different kinds of bad driving. Arguably the Tesla was doing nothing more than showing off, while the Jeep may have had some purpose (not an excuse).

    The Real Use for Auto-Pilot

I don't know for sure, but I suspect it is related to following distance. If so, I wish the two were separate but I find it nerve-wracking to come in that hot behind another car, but I don't want huge gaps at cruising speed. Since I don't see any indication on the display that it even knows...

    The Real Use for Auto-Pilot

My wife just drove solo from upstate NY to IN in one day. AP made a huge difference in the experience for her. If you get great driving enjoyment from I-80 across Ohio I've got some paint you might want to watch dry...

Can we expect your friend ElectricSoybean to be joining us soon? ;) As long as you have a home charger it really doesn't matter whether you live in Major Metropolis or South Hicksville, since you'll be pretty much self-contained. We've had mostly pretty good experiences with the Indy Service...

    Drove Audi e-tron Today

Yeah, I'm certain the quality of Tesla's USB audio software has them shaking in their boots. Then again, maybe I should cut Tesla some slack since USB audio is such extreme cutting-edge technology... ;)

Note that, if you read the fine print, you're not supposed to charge through an extension cord. If you actually follow this restriction it dramatically reduces the places you can do 120v charging.

There's no requirement to have any relationship whatsoever to Tesla to use this site. Must be some other problem.

Is sitting in the car while being supercharged dangerous?

His photo's in the cloud either way and will almost certainly be the prosecution's Exhibit 1 at his trial.

Is sitting in the car while being supercharged dangerous?

Snap a picture of the guy with your cell phone? That might strongly encourage him to just walk away.

At least up until recently, the couple of SuperChargers at the showroom/service center in Chicago were the only ones in the area, so the general Tesla-owning public routinely used them.

You can always start out with charging it off 120 overnight and see how that goes. That, supplemented with occasional local supercharging, might work for you. Just so you know, generally speaking frequent use of one's local supercharger is frowned upon (though some people, myself included...

Welcome! I am one of the other Lafayette Tesla owners. There are probably more around than you think, and the numbers are definitely increasing. I think you'll find once you settle into the groove that you don't actually use our local supercharger very often, since you'll do virtually all of...

Isn't that accomplished by using "binary pedal modulation": stomp the accelerator, stomp the break? ;)

    Drove Audi e-tron Today

Indeed. Teslas are by far the worst EVs on the market, with the exception of every other EV on the market. ;)

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

I'm questioning the assumption that % is safer than constant, though really assuming that either is automatically safe is problematic. How sure are you that the same cop who'll give you a pass for 60.5 in a 55 zone will give you a pass for 88 in an 80 zone? Though I suppose since there's really...

Some Tesla hate on the highway...

You should have quoted the manual to them, pointing out that you are always "driving" the car, whether or not choose to have AP assist you in that endeavor. ;)
  41. RogerHScott

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Although I'll admit to using the same "logic" myself, I can't honestly construct any rational argument for the "acceptable" amount by which one can/should exceed the speed limit being a fraction of the posted limit. Surely no one would say with a straight face that highway departments...

    Regenerative Braking Behavior Poll

This has always struck me as a danger in people becoming too used to regenerative braking. It should be thought of as an optimization, not a fundamental aspect of the car's operation. Just as with AP you are still driving and still ultimately responsible for driving the car, you are ultimately...

    Regenerative Braking Behavior Poll

    Model S 75D Range Anxiety

A valid concern, but charging during the day decreases the amplitude of that cycle. And, of course, if he can swing installing a destination charger at his place of work then that changes everything. Btw, your range loss seems significantly larger than typical (even for that behavior) -- I...
  47. RogerHScott

    Model S 75D Range Anxiety

I agree. Even if you can only put it on 110 while you're at work that will allow it to keep warm during the day and maybe gain a little charge, but probably enough to get you over the range anxiety hump. If you can pre-heat the car before heading home at the end of each day that's quite a bit...

Error | Incline too steep: parking brake may not hold

Good advice, of course, when possible. But you're not always parked against a curb. I just wish they were a little more clear on how much of a hill was "a hill".
  49. RogerHScott

Error | Incline too steep: parking brake may not hold

Isn't saying the brakes may or may not work not all that different from saying the accelerator is only a suggestion and the vehicle's actual acceleration is unpredictable, but you, the driver, are ultimately responsible for the movement of your vehicle? I don't recall any other car I've owned...
