Do electromagnetic fields cause long term damage to health by driving an EV?

1 Post - Trying to stir up - Don't feed the troll. I'm an electrical engineer with an emphasis on EMF as pertains to cancer. This EMF is non-ionizing. The sun is wickedly more dangerous. End of story

    Accelerating and decelerating thud noise

Yes! I had this. Kind of sounded like a pinball was rolling back and forth smacking metal on metal whenever accel/decel occured. I told the tech to take a look when I had my HW3 computer put in. They instantly knew what it was. Something about the linkages needing to be tightened up...

    Upgraded to FSD, now what?

If you are sure you have HW 2.5 then go to the schedule service in the app and select "accessories" then "upgrades and installations" Mention you'd like to get the HW3.0 and they'll set you up. I just had this done a week ago. The never reached out to me and I've had FSD for a year now.

Elon says: Fleet feature usage tremendoulsy helps. Your thougts.

You don't have to actually use Autopilot features for the training set to get better. You will stop at a stop sign regardless if it's on or off. The data query is looking for non-standard problems and extrapolating what you do in those scenarios. So, drive however you want. If you want to...

No Updates in 21 Days ?

I think he's saying that there have been regular updates in the last two months and now it's been about 3 weeks since the last TeslaFi.com Firmware Tracker

Has anyone tested the decline of power on the P3 with the decline in total battery?

I would be noticeable. Like you said Volts*Amps= Watts. Current is going to be hard limited at the top end. Voltage is basically the SOC. 4.15V at he top end quickly scaling back to 3.8V or so around 80% and then down from there fairly linearly. An S curve. Do the math and you're down 10%...

Tesla V10 software update rollout: post here if you are still waiting

At this point something is wrong especially if you are in the US. How's your Wifi connection? What does the status bar say in the software tab?

What product do you use for the deepest wettest looking gloss?

I use HydroSilex Recharge. It's a "ceramic spray" Whatever it is, I've never felt my car be so smooth to the touch just like after a good wax and polish and especially for so long. I recommend. Whatever their formula, it goes deep and holds nicely for weeks

6 month old Tesla model 3 losses 7 miles

7 miles is roughly 2% and for the first year it's not uncommon to lose 3-4%. The degradation will slow down to 1% per year after that. Also, keeping it at 80% all the time and never exercising the battery through the range every once in a while won't let the voltage sensors recalibrate (to put...

Did not receive the 5000 Supercharger miles from a referral

Order date vs receive date. A car can't be claimed as a purchase until it's delivered so internally they counted 6/2 as the date for the mileage boost which by then was 1000 instead of 5000. I think that's dumb too.

Lost all sounds. Reboot is not helping

I used to have this all the time on an old firmware. If I remember right someone mentioned toggling the sound options like moving the balance/fade and toggling the other options. Then do a reboot. I remember it worked every time.

Miles at 100% charge (P3D Long Range) -- 282 miles available.

In detailed terms, how do you do this? Coulomb counting? My point being what you're saying sounds nice, but is almost impossible to get as accurate as just reading the voltage

    AP3 Chip and Updates

Don't read to much into updates and timing. Like most software companies, it's sent in batches and may or may not be prioritized to certain groups to fix certain issues. I'm on AP 2.5, in California, and still haven't gotten the update. Our human brains are so demanding aren't they :P

Miles at 100% charge (P3D Long Range) -- 282 miles available.

Calibration every once in a while is healthy and normal Short explanation: Batteries charge state is basically what voltage they are at. It's not quite linear, but as long as you can measure voltage you can get an accurate reading. The sensor that measures this voltage loses it's reference...

FRONT LICENSE PLATE IN BAY AREA

Have run 15 years in states that mandate no plates. I never had a problem. Same with tint. I know it's just a matter of time, but you live in SF like me too and there are almost no cops ANYWHERE I look. I'm OK with that.

New 18" tires needed after only 30K Miles, normal tread wear?

Serious question: How does rotating help after you do it once? Why not take the rears down to the legal limit then swap and wait again until down to the limit. Never understood why do it at 6k miles vs like 15k-20k.

    Screen burning hot

They rigorously test these in thermal chambers. I've been a part of teams that test electronics to 80*C. That will absolutely burn your hand so I'm not worried. Does it bring up the failure rate over time, yes, but It should be fine for 10-15 years. This is like debating 80-90% charging as...

    Map Update NA-2019.6

I noticed a long on-ramp I always take the Autopilot cruise was typically restricted to only 5 mph over the actual, but everyone goes much faster on it. Sometime over the last few days I saw it now can go 20mph over and with the flow. Sounds like this was the reason!

Just ordered my P3D. Is there a break in period like ICE?

I'm sure people can pick apart small things that could benefit from a break-in period, but honestly and practically speaking, it's not necessary anymore. The greatest harm back in the day was when picton rings needed to scrape against the piston wall to seal correctly for so many miles before...

    Charging...

Which car do you have AWD, RWD, Performance? Wheels? If those are inputted correctly and you figure you actually will arrive with the correct percentage than you can even do 90% and arrive with 7% If it rains or there is headwinds sounds like at worst you are stopping for a quick charge...

Did Elon say that all new cars being made have HW3 now?

Why? If you don't buy FSD you won't get any benefit....ever. If you buy FSD you get the computer upgrade whether it's installed in production or after production. I'm just saying, don't let that limit you.

    Screen restarted while driving

The screen is on it's own process and hardware called an MCU (Media Control Unit I believe). This is more akin to Windows or something where every once in a while things will crash and it needs to reboot. Unless it happens a lot a few times is no big deal. The Drivetrain and even Autopilot...

keep your key card with you at all times..

Is charge port door still supposed to open when physically tapped

I wanted help to confirm that the charge port door is/isn't supposed to open when you step out of the car (therefore unlocked) and physically tap on it. It used to do this for me, but I noticed it doesn't now and didn't know if this was a software update that locked it out or if I need some...

    Full charge 99%?

What is most likely happening is one of the packs reached full charge first and thus stops the entire charge process. Don't worry over the next drive cycle the pack will turn on its internal resistors to balance back out with the others. What could have also happened is you did reach 100%, but...

Model 3 review - After moving from RWD to AWD

Ahhh that's right. So is this only for a trade in or can you get this by doing a third party seller as well? Curious if I can back date the sale of my Prius. Maybe Mr. Google can help me on this.

Model 3 review - After moving from RWD to AWD

I'm so confused. I've seen quite a few articles on people doing this, but is anyone taking into account sales tax? You don't get that back and you're paying that on the new car as well. SOrry to ask, but can someone write out the math....exact math on this. Unless you're in a no car sales...

Thought on my M3 LR after about a few road trips

Rock chips, maybe. Never experience one when I was behind a trailer specifically. In my unscientific tests, I've noticed a considerable improvement from drafting. I stayed very far behind one (same speed) for 15 minutes on a straight level highway and then up closer at "1" on Autopilot and...

Thumping sound from floor (battery?) when supercharging

Temperature difference from a warming/cooling battery pack. The aluminum sheetmetal around the pack expands/shrinks more than it's steel around it therefore a sometimes concerning thump can be heard. If you've ever moved the concave of a thin sheet of metal from one side to the other....same...

Thought on my M3 LR after about a few road trips

I've done without stopping several times with my RWD aero. No issues, even in heat. Your problem is probably setting that 20% low limit. Go down to 5%. That still leaves you with 15 miles which doesn't sound like much, but it's plenty of city street driving. If you get a little anxious when...

    Increasing range on AWD

Tread wear ratings. Rolling resistance is directly correlated to that. A harder tire is less "sticky" to the road surface and therefore has less rolling resistance.
  37. Adrien

    Pre-conditioning, regen, and cold weather

Theoretically, you're right, but regen creates a lot of power in the dozens of kW, if I had to guess by the bar chart maybe 70kW. That is an enormous amount of heat and the resistor alone would be massive and pretty much burn the car down. Not really joking either
  38. Adrien

    Increasing range on AWD

It will Also, the front motor being small and geared higher is more efficient at highway speeds so actually the rear motor is put to sleep instead. At least that's the case for the Model S. The problem is that the rear motor in the TM3 is a Permanent magnet motor meaning it actually has quite...

Will we have to leave Bluetooth on all the time on our phones?

You guys realize that the model S recently changed to BT LE recently right? No one seems to be having issues. If you have a phone from the last 3 years there is a high probability it is BT LE and will work the same way the key fob does. BT LE shouldn't take more 1% per day if left on. I know...

    2013 P85+ vs. Model 3

I've wrestled with this too in debating getting a P85+ with no AP or the Model 3. In the end, AP is really worth it to me and even though I too want AWD or even PAWD on the model 3, I am just telling myself, who cares anyway. This thing will self drive in a few years and I won't care about...

[Rumor] Higher capacity battery to have over 300 mile range

You really want to bet that? A kWhr is a kWhr no matter how it's packaged. That's like saying a pound of feathers weighs less than a pound of lead. The 2170 cell format is more energy dense for sure, but I think this picture shows the high capacity variant of the Model 3. Probably 75kWhr

[Rumor] Higher capacity battery to have over 300 mile range

Errors: 1.) This is not a "diagram" it's a screen shot of the GUI. Picky, but shows you're not very precise 2.) The fluctuations CAN be huge 3.) The charge time remaining is only to the desired level (looks to be about 85%) 4.) Measuring pixels in the past has worked great and is probably...

    Fatal Flaw in AP2 Design

No one should be calling Tesla. That's akin to hard coding things into the machine learning for driving. The car/software knows it lost tracking, sees what you do to react, and as that information gets processed in the cloud will eventually be fixed. That's how the process works....not...
