Tesla didn't estimate $35K. That's the published base price. Elon has stated the average cost would likely be around $42K. I suspect very few base models (if any) will be sold in the first year, as they've said they'll produce more heavily optioned cars first.

Yes, I test drove a Model S in August 2015... fell in love with everything but the sticker price. i bought a Nissan Leaf in February 2016 (needed another vehicle, and an affordable Tesla wasn't available yet)

I plan on keeping my 2016 Leaf until the M3 comes in. It meets most of my needs. I commute 60 miles roundtrip each day, and the 107 mile range is more than adequate for my daily drive. Looking forward to the extra range, and of course, it'll be a Tesla!
