Pack Performance and Launch Mode Limits

Pretty disappointed to find out that the performance upgrade I paid for is basically deactivated over time. I'm not sure I would have paid for the ludicrous upgrade if I had been aware of such a limit. I'm hoping they come clean and will either stand by the original performance numbers or buy...

Trump picks climate denier to head EPA transition

What about what he says is "scientific proof" and what isn't? Blanket doomsday statements make people less likely to believe you in the future, or believe anything you have to say, and this guy is effectively the leader of the movement, he won a freaking Nobel prize for climate change work: The...

Trump picks climate denier to head EPA transition

I can see there is evidence for environmental changes, I'm not here to debate the science here. I'm referring to credibility around the movement. Comments like: 2006: Al Gore Does Sundance With the quote of: It has been 10 years. It seems like we haven't taken drastic measures. Have we...

Trump picks climate denier to head EPA transition

It's far easier to be critical of someone than it is to actually participate in solving the issue. Trying to force someone to do what you want is offensive to many people, including myself. On the other hand if you were to implement some product, technological improvement, process etc that would...

Bluetooth stopped working after latest 8.0 update?

Hmm. In my case its entirely non-functional and has been for some days now. Is doing a full car powerdown via 'Controls->xxxxx(can't remember the menu)->Power down' the same as a CID reset?

Bluetooth stopped working after latest 8.0 update?

Got a 8.0 update a week or so ago, the one that improves USB. Noticed this week that Bluetooth is non functional. Noticed it wasn't connected to my phone. The icon on the cid is grey, clicking on it shows something like "Bluetooth is initializing" but it never leaves that state and goes to the...

ReGen level shifter pedals for Model 3

I typically reduce pressure on the accelerator slightly in order to adjust speed. It likely means that there is some energy lost due to acceleration or regen being applied ever so slightly vs. a true coast, but it's easy to do and only requires the accelerator pedal to be used.

ReGen level shifter pedals for Model 3

I had a chance to sit in a Chevy Volt recently and when the sales guy mentioned the regen pedal by the steering wheel I was surprised. What would compel them to not use the existing control interface of brake/accelerator and decide they needed a brand new pedal? Its so natural when driving say a...

Goodbye Federal $7,500 tax credit - no way it survives Trump/Senate/House

Sure, I'm not suggesting that the original creator of the idea doesn't deserve credit for the idea. I'm pointing out that the following president is at the least tacitly agreeing with the policy if he/she isn't taking action to change it. Who else would you have be responsible for the now nearly...

Goodbye Federal $7,500 tax credit - no way it survives Trump/Senate/House

If president A created something and president B either extended it or continued it then imo its mostly president B's responsibility and ownership. Whether or not you agree or disagree with the tax credits let's hold presidents and presidential administrations responsible not just for what they...

Q4 Push with Supercharging? Hidden Reasons?

It wouldn't make sense for them to announce AP 2.0 before running down inventory, or people might not purchase the existing cars. The AP 2.0 hardware does come with a price increase, and any AP 1.0 cars continue to work as they used to, so there isn't a loss of functionality for AP 1.0 cars due...

Goodbye Federal $7,500 tax credit - no way it survives Trump/Senate/House

Agreed. Government stimulus doesn't always have the intended effect. It can get businesses into a market but once the stimulus goes away the market can go well. With the stimulus in place the fitness of the business model isn't really being tested. That's my concern with this recent talk of...

Agreed, that sounds not quite right.

    Precondition without App?

One trick to keep the car awake and climate control running is to only partially close a door. Not ideal but maybe 8.1 temperature settings will make it easier and avoid an unlocked car.

Model X driving forward when in reverse?

I had a tough time seeing the vehicle moving forward. If you went several mph forward and had the console showing R that would make it super clear. Not saying it wasn't moving forward just that if it is so slow and the distance is so small it may be that you are releasing hill hold when you...

The WhiteHouse designating 48 National Electric Vehicle Charging Corridors on our Highways

Count me as negative on this one. Taxpayer dollars going to what would otherwise be an unprofitable and unsustainable idea doesn't seem like a good idea. Let the ev companies organize amongst themselves, or not, to build the network but please don't take money from the citizens to do so. Imo...

    Range anxiety in the desert

I agree. It wouldn't be wise to run out of charge by being careless. In this case it sounds like the nav system missed something.
  18. C

    Range anxiety in the desert

That would make me nervous. I believe Tesla (or Elon) has said something like "you can't run out of charge if you use the navigation system", maybe they would foot the bill for a tow if you were driving as expected (if the Nav wasn't suggesting you drive at 60 mph and you were doing 80) and...

Discrepency Between MS and Chargepoing on Energy Used.

With a Neurio and an rough average of the cars reported consumption numbers I've calculated about 82% efficiency with my home HPWC setup. It looks like you are looking at 444/500 = ~89% efficiency which is much higher. Makes me think the number I'm using for the cars consumption may be too high...

Looking at Teslas: Charging at Home Options

I'd recommend installing a HPWC on a 60A circuit (so you can charge at 48A). If you have the higher current charger option you could go bigger but if you mostly charge overnight its ok to add 35 miles per hour of charge. I keep the UMC in the trunk for use when charging remotely and not using...

    V8.0 rant

I've had the 40 seconds remaining slacker song skip issue and an odd issue that may have been present in v7 where spotty HD radio signal doesn't result in dropping back to non-hd. Otherwise I've found v8 autopilot to work as well as v7, can't really tell because I've learned in my commute...

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

I've also noticed even more sluggish app to car updates with 8.0. It was bad before, now it appears to sometimes take a minute or more before the spinner goes away before I can control climate. I have always connected on, energy savings enabled, and didn't change anything except getting the 8.0...

    Electricians Ripping Off EV Owners

If you end up with a fire and don't have a permit there is always a chance your insurance company won't pay. Plus the permit typically comes with an inspection, so a double check on the quality of the work. Given how hot the shutoff breaker on my setup gets its good to make sure high amperage...

How was increased regenerative braking achieved with 8.0?

Noticed that the 8.0 release notes mentioned a slight increase in regenerative braking. I haven't seen any details about how that was achieved, does anyone know more about this improvement?

    Electricians Ripping Off EV Owners

I think people have reported a range of electrical prices. I got three quotes for a hpwc install, along with a run of maybe 70' of wire, with a pretty big variation between the three. You might have received a lower quote from another electrician, or it may be that the job was too small to quote...

What are your preferred audio sources?

Are Slacker and TuneIn high enough quality to match the quality of the Model S sound system? They sound good to me but I wasn't sure if the bitrates were being limited to reduce cellular traffic.
  27. C

Will UMC be damaged if left plugged in for extended time?

Yep. Bonus is that you'd also reduce wear on the receptical by leaving it plugged in. Also consider that the hpwc is always powered even when not charging the car.
  28. C

Will UMC be damaged if left plugged in for extended time?

I can't imagine you'd need to rest it. The umc is likely to wear due to relay cycles (if it has a relay inside of it), and heat, which tends to degrade everything from chips to capacitors to wires. But, since it isn't charging the car during these idle times it wouldn't be heating up any. I'd...

UMC button sometimes doesn't unlock cable

Yeah mine takes some time, maybe a second of hold before it goes white. I think it depends whether the car is drawing power at the time you try to disengage the charger. If it isn't drawing power its quick, if it is then it takes a moment.

Why Does Every News Channel Blame "AutoPilot" For Every Single Crash?

We've been watching this kind of sensational fact-less reporting for years in terms of covering firearms related stories. Every rifle is an "assault rifle", every handgun a "glock". Makes me think there might actually be a business opportunity for a fee-based news outlet that really knew what...

    Navigation gone nuts

Tesla nav is a little odd at times. Sometimes it wants me to get off of the highway and connect via smaller roads to another highway vs staying on and going highway to highway. It's odd enough that I always double check with waze or google maps. Really hoping it gets improved so it can be...

    Air Conditioning Blowing Hot Air

Had the same issue with a refreshed ms a few weeks ago. Power off and back on resolved the issue. He checked temperatures and range mode setting and then...

WTB - 19" slipstream wheels - North East Massachusetts

Looking for a second set of 19" wheels for the winter. Like the look of the slipstreams (have those right now). With or without tpms is fine. I live North of Boston, travel up to Manchester, NH regularly as well, would be looking for a local transaction if possible to save everyone on shipping etc.

    Driving tips for P90DL Wanted

The P90DL is so fast its terrifying and I've had one for a month and a half. Amazing car, its a joy each time I drive it. Taking care with the accelerator is recommended. Also, sport steering can help to avoid being too twitchy with steering, I find that on the comfort mode its far too easy to...

    Dash Cam in Refreshed MS

Overall the tough parts were the windshield to mic and then the cable rework with correct pinout. Running through the headliner with the pano roof was really simple. I ran around, lost he extra for the rear camera by going back and forth in the center pano area from the back seat. I also didn't...

    Dash Cam in Refreshed MS

Here is one I snapped a second ago showing the cables through the headliner. I could have moved them closer to the ap/mirror but it felt like there was something in the way. I can't see it from inside drivers seat so I left it.

    Dash Cam in Refreshed MS

The blackvue dr650 has parking mode detection that seems to work pretty well in detecting being parked or moving. I guess it is supposed to avoid writing to the card when parked and no motion is detected but I can't say I've tested it. I didn't go under the plastics myself. I used zip ties from...

    Blackvue 650 2ch dashcam - corrupt files

I've had pretty poor luck with a 128GB PNY card that I've been using in the same model blackvue. Every three days it was speaking out "check sd card" and I had to reformat it. After a few weeks I gave up and went back to the 16GB card it came with. I might try with a 32GB card to see how it works.

    Panel between the Dome Lights

With ap? I thought someone was trying to or had figured out which options caused that connector to be present. Glad your setup worked out. It wasn't super easy for me to fish the wires around, not sure how I would have gotten down to the center console.

    Panel between the Dome Lights

2016 refreshed model s, p90d. I also checked the voltages with and without dome lights on/off. I had looked through the posts here and didn't see any that had the same wire colors that I had so I made sure to check all of the configurations. That and I didn't want to wire the dash cam backwards...

    Panel between the Dome Lights

I just installed a blackvue a few days ago and used that same connector. From the gray to black it was 14v but from the green-red to the black it was something like 10v. Maybe you are measuring that pair? Grey to green-red was 3.4 for me.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Refreshed P90DL, confirmed 4/15/2016, also moved from "Late May - June" to "June - Early July" as of this morning, also in production queue but not in production. I'm guessing the binning of the builds is based on the target build as there are a lot of non-P90DLs being built.

How's this for an insurance quote?

Ahh, my wording was poor. I was responding to the original poster, the one with the 25k a year or whatever quote, when I said that quote was too high. The quote I received for the model s was, imo, in line with auto insurance in the state. Now it may be that my quote is also high vs other...

How's this for an insurance quote?

Liberty mutual quoted something like 1200 a year for a model s on my policy here in Massachusetts. That quote seems a bit much.
