Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

Well, Tesla won't budge on price. All I wanted was the labour written off (£1250). I will no longer recommend Tesla to any of my clients. My next purchase will be Porsche or Audi.

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

That will be a shame, as American quality is terrible compared to German. It could seriously push me over to Porsche or Audi.

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

Thanks for the picture. 2 things I note from this design. The first is no nyloc nut on the end of that bolt, so just a standard nut and bolt, torqued down to a suitable rating for the diameter, material type and thread pitch. That then creates another problem, as aluminium is a soft material...

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

I had a phone call from a Tesla senior sales guy Friday morning to discuss my thoughts on Tesla, as I have had mine longer than most, and probably driven further (73,000 miles so far in mine, plus about 20,000 in various S and X loaners). I laughed at the start of the call and explained that...

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

My P85 has just been quoted at £2752, however, I think they added every bolt option possible, some of which are costed at £9 a bolt?! I have given the go ahead, as I need it back. Yes, its a lot of money, but I can earn that back in a little over a week, and the Ford Fiesta is already driving me...

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

I'm hoping that you are right. I am curious to see what the warranty period is for a brand new replacement part. I wouldn't be impressed if it falls apart in a year and I have to shell out another £2500.....

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

I'm basing my costs on what you have been charged, as no one else in the UK has posted what they had to pay. The USA quotes do seem to vary wildly, from $2100 to $3500 all in for the exact same job. At the moment, Tesla haven't quoted. I'm keen to get this resolved ASAP. The initial WTF shock...

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

How many P85's were made? I'm curious to see what percentage have failed so far.

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

if the motor tabs both break, then the only thing holding it it are the push fit drive shafts and the connecting power cables. 650lb of metal just waiting to fall out.
  10. nexsuperne101

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

That sounds like the drive unit letting go. That will be under the 8 year warranty. You can confirm the noise by driving in reverse and letting the accelerator go, as the regen will load up and take up the drivetrain slack.

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

I would like to know how many of us have had to pay for new subframes. Time to push for a recall, as its a safety issue. Meanwhile, I've messaged the finance company. I've paid just over 50% on HP and I'm over 50% of the time through my term. I have explained the situation, and that the amount...

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

Where's the creak from? I sent mine in for a creek from the front , but they couldn't find anything. This is a definite bang from the back. I guess it could start as a creak until the metal tab finally breaks and the motor is free to twist.

Frame Failure called "Normal Wear and Tear" by Tesla Service

I've just been told by Tesla Chelmsford (UK) service centre that my rear sub frame is cracked. My car is a 2014 P85. Drive unit (the 3rd one since 23,000 miles) was replaced in July. I have driven 5000 miles since then, so the car is up to 73,000 miles now. It was all fine until last week...

    Replace TPMS sensors yourself

I am in the same position as a few of you. I bought the replacement tpms for my aftermarket wheels, and the choices were 2012-2013 or 01/2014-2016. I chose 01/2014 as my car was registered in August 2014. It is the gen1 system. I have a ts401 scanner, and I scanned the 3 remaining wheels I have...

UK only - For sale 21" x8.5J Turbine wheels

I am selling my 4no 21" x8.5J Genuine Tesla Turbine alloy wheels. They are currently black, and will need a refurb, as Stevie Wonder has been driving.... I am asking £450 each. There are no TPMS sensors or tyres, but you can transfer them from your existing wheels. Tesla want over £1000 a rim...

Reduced power output on Model S P85.

I don't think mine is locked. I still see 402 volts at 99% (it hasn't ever charged to 100% since 2019.16...). At 402V on a 96S pack, that is still 4.19V, so it is right on the 4.2V absolute maximum limit. I will charge it right up tonight, let it balance, drive it to 0% tomorrow and see how the...

Reduced power output on Model S P85.

I'm not sure about the capacity cap on mine. I have only lost 0.5kwh in the last 30,000 miles. I now have 73.1kwh usable at 100%, which I get 200 real miles out of.

Reduced power output on Model S P85.

Firmware is 2019.32.12.2. Charging is normally about 100F. I don't get 118KW anymore, and I used to until the last few updates. I can still get 200 miles on a run (70mph cruising), so its not affected the overall range.
  20. nexsuperne101

Reduced power output on Model S P85.

Hi Peeps, My P85, prior to the last few updates used to put out between 416bhp and 425bhp. 0-60mph was also just over 4 seconds. It now takes far longer to supercharge (2 hours from 2% to 95%), the peak power is only hitting 396bhp and the 0-60mph is 4.4 seconds. Has anyone else noticed this on...

    1500 mile battery??

This was exactly my issue with it. I like to be able to charge at home using sunlight. What I don't like is having to go somewhere to pay over the odds for something I can't recharge myself. That is no better than buying fossil fuel for being tied to "the Man"
  22. nexsuperne101

    No Battery Performance Option

I have this message on my P85. I still have to wait for it to warm up above 14C for full regen and 30C for fully power. There is no cold climate pack on mine.

Continuous Faint Humming Noise When Parked

I'm looking at lighter wheels for it now. I don't like the 19s, it looks too much like a Ford Mondeo with those on, so will probably go for Vossen 21" instead.
  24. nexsuperne101

Continuous Faint Humming Noise When Parked

Because it is only 73kwh usable, and I need the range to go to work. That's why I charge to 100% It's not much use when I am 20 miles short of getting home because of the vampire drain. It also now takes 2 hours at a supercharger to get to 95%, which is the absolute minimum I need to get from...

    Vossen VFS1 wheels

Hi, I am looking at putting 21x9j (255/30/21)and 21x10.5j (295/30r21) on my P85. I know they will fit, but my concern is about potholes. My turbine wheels have been known to split after going down our wonderful UK roads. For those of you with the Vossen wheels, how do you find them? Thanks

    Drive Unit Version

Mine had a rumble going on, which was diagnosed as drive shafts, but on closer inspection they realised the drive unit was dead as well. All replaced under warranty at 40,000 miles (P85 2014). I have now done another 15,000 on the new unit, and so far it seems pretty good, and definitely much...

Continuous Faint Humming Noise When Parked

I have a 2014 P85 which has been making this noise for weeks. I unplugged it at 99%, and after 24 hours it was down to 88%. It is booked in with the SC next week, so will repost with their findings. I do wonder if this is a battery protection measure, where I can charge to 100%, but if I don't...

At what point did you have to pay in full/sign the finance agreement?

CPO purchase update or the lack thereof

I will watch this post, as I am just about to buy a P85, and also want to know if I will have it for my birthday (8th August). First time buying a CPO, so didn't know what the time frame was like.
  30. nexsuperne101

CPO deposit price now jumped up from £1000 to £4000.

I know that the 1.49% deal on the new inventory stock is due to end in 6 days, and then it will return to 5.9%. Even at 5.9% I will be quite happy, as I won't be in a Leaf anymore.

CPO deposit price now jumped up from £1000 to £4000.

A quick update on this. I had a phonecall from a lovely lady called Maria at Tesla. She tried to upsell me from the 2014 P85 I can afford to the S75D, which is on the new inventory list for about £30K more than I should really spend. Anyway, I had a look, and it is nice and new, but it isn't as...

CPO deposit price now jumped up from £1000 to £4000.

My credit score could be the problem. I have just paid the final bit of hp off my Nissan Leaf, which was in month 23 of 48. My score is 932 out of 999 on Experian, 433 out of 700 with Equifax and 560 out of 710 with call/Noddle. Equifax is 6 weeks behind, as it isn't showing the hp with the...

CPO deposit price now jumped up from £1000 to £4000.

The car I am looking at is only 50 miles from where I live, so I can go and look at it first.
  34. nexsuperne101

CPO deposit price now jumped up from £1000 to £4000.

Not that it is a problem, but does that mean that we get a better deal on finance if we are now putting down 8-10% of what a P85 now costs? It's only been the last 2 days, as I was going to transfer the £1000 from my M3 reservation to the P85, but was waiting until today for a test drive to see...

Why do people purchase CPO vehicles?

This is exactly my argument. I am looking at a P85, barely 3 years old with 30K-40K on the clock for £45,000. I would have spent that on a Model 3, but the bigger car with better range (and the hatchback) is more practical for my needs. Hope to pull the trigger on one in the next 3 months. Test...

    Financing at 1.49%

Apologies for the noob question, are Tesla now financing CPO's in the UK? What rates and credit scoring service do they use? I have 932 out of 999 on my Experian credit score, but my Equifax one is only 450 out of 700. I have found a 2014 P85 for an affordable price at £44K
  37. nexsuperne101

    Drive Unit Version

Are there still issues with the P85 units? Looking at buying a 2014 version. It has the remaining part of the unlimited 8 year warranty, but I don't need it in the shop every six months.

Looking at P85 P40633 on UK Tesla site

HI, looking at buying this one, multicoat red, black leather seats, no autopilot (which doesn't bother me, as I like to drive!). Does anyone know where it is, and also, who can you recommend for finance on a CPO? I have a trade in and already have my £1000 deposit on a model 3, so could chuck...

New Model 3 orders may have to wait until the end of 2018!

What?! you mean if I reserve one today, I won't jump the queue and get mine next month :D I don't want mine until late 2018 anyway, as still getting the funds together for a hard cash purchase, which is why I bunked my initial reservation to February this year. My Nissan Leaf, although slow...

Will Model 3 get a heat pump for cabin heating?

Same here. The coldest I have experienced with it in the UK was minus 5 Celcius. Heating worked great.

What are you going to dump.....

The Wife, and get a younger model to go with the new car :D
  42. nexsuperne101

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

I have just un-cancelled my reservation. I have got a good job now, so can easily afford it. I know I won't get my car until some point in 2019, as my previous much earlier reservation would have put me much further up the list, but at least I am on the list to stay now.

Converting to Powerwall 2 off grid

I too am running a 48V battery system, with 8KW of solar. As I understand it, the Powerwall 2 has a 320V-400V operating voltage, with its own 4KW pure sinewave inverter. This means that the input voltage from the solar has to be at least 400V to charge the batteries to 100%. My current...

Model S crash into Mercedes Dealership

So Tesla can't protect a pissed up dickhead from possibly killing people? I guess that makes them about as good as every other manufacturer. I hope he goes down for a very long time.

The Model 3 page on Tesla.com has been updated with new wording regarding deliveries

Shock horror!!! Tesla delivery timeframe slips again! And you expected what exactly? We all knew that we wouldn't see the 3 until at least 2018 (or 2020 in the UK).

The New Chevy Bolt vs Tesla Model 3: Which is better EV?

The Bolt won't be released to the UK market, so the only comparison is Nissan Leaf Vs Model 3. The Leaf currently wins, and will do for at least another 2.5-3 years, as it is actually here. By Q4 2019, I expect to see a 250-300 mile range Leaf, the Google car, The Apple car and everything else...

Current lease is up soon - what do do between now and Model3?

If 70 miles is enough per day for you, then a Leaf would be the one to go for. I got mine 14 months old with less than 3,000 miles on the clock for 40% of the brand new price. Now it is worth 30%, and it is only 2 years old with 29,000 miles on it. 10% depreciation in year 2 isn't so bad. I'm...

Fitted Model S car cover. Does one exist?

I will have to get it shipped over. Not a problem, as I have family in Sacramento, so they can buy it and send it over. Thanks for the info, much appreciated! :)

Fitted Model S car cover. Does one exist?

Hi, I am probably a bit out of the ordinary when it comes to your average Tesla owner, as I don't have a garage or a carport. What I do have is 3 oak trees that drop sap all over anything that is parked vaguely near them. It washes off OK, but it is a pain every morning! So my question is, do...

Anybody still bother with Ecotricity chargers with the new 6GBP tariff?

Charging a 24KWH Nissan Leaf from 5% up to 83% (the best I managed in the middle of summer after 30 minutes), works out at the petrol equivalent (£5 per UK Gallon - 4.54 litres) at 60MPG. This is about 6 times the cost of charging at home on cheap rate electric, but means that we no longer see...
